Sema son now in KL custody, says Rody By Johnna Villaviray Giolagon DAVAO CITY—President Rodrigo Duterte has confirmed the arrest in Malaysia of the son of two Mindanao political leaders in connection with the Sept. 15 night market blast that killed 15 people here. Duterte was referring to a son of former Cotabato City mayor Muslimin Sema and Maguindanao lawmaker Rep. Bai Sandra Sema. “He is now detained in Malaysia,” Duterte told the Davao City business community Saturday night. Duterte did not identify who among Sema’s sons was in Malaysian custody, although VERA Files earlier reported that Datu Mohammad Abduljabbar Sema, 26, was arrested on Nov. 24 at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport upon his arrival from Bangkok. The report said the young Sema had been traveling to and from Bangkok. When his 30day visa expired, he had exited to Cambodia, decided to go to Malaysia and was arrested upon arrival in Kuala Lumpur. Blast Abu, military ordered PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte said Saturday night he has ordered the military to “blast” the Abu Sayyaf bandits who have been on a kidnap-for-ransom spree, even if hostages would also be killed. “They say, ‘What about the hostage?’ Sorry, collateral damage,” Duterte said in a speech before the Davao City Chamber of Comerce and Industries. He added that if the bandits were “blasted everyday” the kidnappings might stop. “So better not get yourselves kidnapped,” he told the Davao businessmen. On Saturday, officials said the Abu Sayyaf freed a South Korean ship captain and his Filipino crewman who were abducted from their vessel off the coast of Tawi-Tawi in October. Next page

“I tell you now, if I have to declare Martial Law, I will declare it. Not about invasion, insurrection, not about danger. I will declare Martial Law to preserve my nation, period,” he said in a speech before members of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Not even the Supreme Court can stop him, he added, if the drug problem will “deteriorate into something really virulent.” “I have to preserve the Filipino people and the youth of this land. That’s why I said, ‘Do not go into that thing because I will kill you,’” he said. Duterte has hinted at declaring

Martial Law before, then pulled back amid opposition, both from his critics and his allies. Most recently, he said he had no plans to declare Martial Law, since it did the country no good during the rule of the dictator Ferdinand Marcos. But Duterte said Saturday that if there were a coup d’etat, he would allow it and swear the generals into office and let them bring order to the land. “Congress may have to impeach me, fine. But, let it not be said that I allowed this country [to be] placed in jeopardy, in peril because I did not know what I had to do,” he said. Next page

By Sandy Araneta AN ESTIMATED 120,000 devotees joined a Catholic procession and paraded statues of the Santo Niño, which is believed to grant miracles, during festivities in Tondo. The procession started when the rose-covered floats bearing the images of the Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph and the Child Jesus left the Santo Niño de Tondo Parish Church around 4:15 a.m. More than a thousand policemen secured the centuries-old image of the Child Jesus as hundreds of devotees paraded and chanted “Viva!” as they danced and held replicas of the icon. Mayor Joseph Estrada on Sunday attributed to the Santo Niño all the blessings that Manila and its citizens have been receiving as he joined the twoday celebrations of the patron’s feast in the city.
