Duterte did not mention Robredo or her resignation as chairwoman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) in his speech Monday night, but issued a stern warning against his critics, saying he would deal with them as soon as he finished addressing the country’s pressing problems. “We are nearing 2017. To the opposition, just wait for your time. Anyway… you’ve had your days,” the President said. “I’ll be straightforward and continue until no Filipino is silly enough to shame us all,” he added. On Monday, Robredo vowed to lead the opposition after quitting Duterte’s Cabinet, making her the highestranking official to publicly voice dissent over the President’s hardline law-and-order platform. “This is not the time for fear. It is a time for conviction. It is a time for courage,” Robredo told reporters. “If being an opposition leader entails that, then I will be an opposition leader,” she added. Robredo vehemently opposed several of Duterte’s policies, including his bloody war on drugs, the lowering of the age of criminal liability, the revival of the death penalty, his disrespectful treatment of women, foreign policy, and the President’s decision to proceed with the burial of the late President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. Robredo also said she would be “a stronger voice” now against the political comeback of the Marcoses, notably Next page

By John Paolo Bencito PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has allotted P2 billion to the Department of Health to provide free medicines to indigents this Christmas season. “You Filipinos listening to me: If you have prescriptions. Go to the [Department of Social Welfare and Development] or go to the city health office or the hospital itself and we will buy the medicines for you,” Duterte said during a later Christmas tree lighting ceremony Monday evening. Duterte said the fund will come from the P5 billion dividend he recently received from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. for his socio-civic projects. “I want every Filipino holding a prescription who cannot find the money to buy the medicine… [I told the Pagcor] give them P2 billion this Christmas,” Duterte said. Murder raps eyed vs ‘Espinosa cops’

‘Drug lord’ Lim hunted by NBI agents By Rey E. Requejo AUTHORITIES are now hunting down Cebu-based businessman Peter Lim, who has been linked by self-confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa to the illegal drug trade.

Lim, said Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II, would not be arrested but “invited” for questioning as part of the government’s buildup in its drug cases. Aguirre confirmed that the National Bureau of Investigation has

already established that the businessman who earlier met with President Rodrigo Duterte in the Palace is the same person allegedly involved in drug trafficking operations in the Visayas, as Espinosa had testified beNext page fore the Senate.

THE National Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday said it has recommended murder and perjury charges against police involved in the killing of Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa and inmate Raul Yap inside a provincial prison on November 5, saying their dawn raid was a rubout. The recommendation was transmitted to Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II on December 2 but made public only Tuesday. Among those identified for the filing of murder charges was Supt. Marvin Marcos, the head of the Region 8 Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) who led the November 5 raid, and who President Rodrigo Duterte had ordered reinstated on the same day he was relieved over allegations that he accepted drug payoffs. The President on Monday said he did not have to explain why he ordered Marcos reinstated, saying that as chief executive, he could modify, amend or revoke any order. “I do not have to explain to you, the whole republic and the critics, why I made the order [for Marcos to be reinstated],” Duterte said Monday, during the traditional lighting of Christmas tree at Malacanang. “What is happening now, well, of course, I am the number one. So, they are questioning my motive… Now, they are assuming that maybe I knew about the operation and Next page

2 more bomb suspects in hiding—PNP By Florante S. Solmerin POLICE are in pursuit of two more jihadists involved in the foiled bombing of the US Embassy, after agents arrested three suspects, multiple sources told the Manila Standard Tuesday. “We won’t stop until we find and arrest them dead or alive,” a police intelligence operative involved in the manhunt said on condition of anonymity. “We believe these two jihadists have with them broader knowl-

edge or information about plans of terrorism here in Metro Manila,” the source added. On Wednesday, Philippine National Police Director General Ronald dela Rosa is expected to present before the media a third suspect who was arrested Saturday in Bulacan. The suspect was earlier identified by Manila Standard sources as Mohammad Jomao-as, a returning convert to Islam. Before his arrest, Rayson Kilala Sandal alias Rashid and Jiaher

Guinar were arrested in two separate operations in Caloocan City and Bulacan. Rashid is said to be a practicing Imam, a religious leader, but was radicalized by the principles of terrorism. Dela Rosa said all the suspects have links with the Maute group based in Butig, Lanao del Sur. On Tuesday, security forces raided five houses of Farhana Maute, mother of the leaders of the terrorist Maute group. A Next page

GAMING tycoon Jack Lam does not have a permit from the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority, contrary to the claim by his lawyer, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said Tuesday. “Ceza has not authorized any of its operators to set up office or any of their operations in the Clark Freeport.
