CALLING THE SHOTS

For queer Latino filmmaker Joseph Herrera, horror has always been more than jump scares and masked killers—it’s a mirror. Making his feature directorial debut with Dark Distortion, arriving this month from Breaking Glass Pictures, Herrera delivers a provocative, microbudget thriller that fuses supernatural terror with a sharp critique of social media obsession, adult content culture, and the perilous cost of visibility in the digital age. The film follows a clique of adult models and influencers whose carefully curated lives unravel after they steal a camcorder haunted by the spirit of a murdered child— an act that plunges their glossy crime scheme into something far more sinister. A lifelong genre devotee who first fell in love with horror watching Scream on VHS, Herrera channels the legacy of Halloween, Candyman, and The Changeling into a story that feels both nostalgically eerie and urgently contemporary. Yet beneath its seductive, voyeuristic aesthetic lies an emotional core: a mother willing to do anything to protect her son. With Dark Distortion, Herrera confronts a culture addicted to being seen and asks a

chilling question: when everything is captured on camera forever, is fame ever worth the price?

Your film skewers social media obsession and adult content culture with a supernatural twist. As a gay filmmaker in an era of hyper-visibility, how personal was this story for you?

Joseph Herrera: I think any filmmaker pulls from their lived experience. As a gay man, I’ve seen how visibility can be empowering, but also performative. There’s pressure to curate yourself. The film explores what happens when that performance starts consuming you.

The idea of a camcorder containing the spirit of a murdered child is chilling. In a world where “content is forever,” were you intentionally turning the concept of digital legacy into a literal ghost story?

I think horror works best when it operates on multiple levels. On the surface, it’s a terrifying concept. But underneath that, yes, there’s an exploration of how media preserves things that maybe shouldn’t be preserved. Sometimes we archive trauma without meaning to.

Horror has always had a strong queer subtext. Did you consciously weave queer sensibilities—camp, spectacle, outsider energy—into the DNA of Dark Distortion?

I think horror naturally attracts people who feel outside the norm. As a filmmaker, I’m drawn to heightened emotion, tension, and psychological intensity. If there’s queer energy in the DNA of the film, it’s probably because I’m part of that lineage, but it’s not something I consciously engineered. It’s just part of who I am.

The cast is irresistibly attractive. Horror and beauty have always had a complicated relationship. Were you intentionally weaponizing

beauty to lure the audience into something far more disturbing?

There’s something unsettling about how easily we consume beautiful people on screen. We scroll, we watch, we project. I liked the idea that the audience’s attraction becomes part of the horror — that the act of looking isn’t innocent.

The film critiques people who “become” their online personas. As someone who’s worked closely with social media models, what was the most surprising or unsettling thing you witnessed that made its way into the script?

I noticed how exhausting it can be to live in constant visibility. There’s a pressure to escalate, to be more provocative, more vulnerable, more extreme. That escalation dynamic made its way into the script. It’s not about judging anyone. It’s about how platforms reward distortion.

COVER

Visually, you drew inspiration from Spring Breakers with bold colors and voyeuristic framing. How did you use that hyper-saturated aesthetic to comment on queer nightlife, adult culture, and the performance of desire?

Queer nightlife has always embraced spectacle — color, excess, theatricality. There’s power in that performance. But there’s also vulnerability. I wanted the visuals to celebrate that intensity while also exposing how fragile it can be when you live inside performance too long.

At its core, you’ve said this isn’t really about vapid influencers; it’s about a mother protecting her son. Why was it important for you, as a gay director, to center maternal ferocity rather than glamorize the chaos?

Chaos is easy to glamorize. But protection, especially maternal protection, is terrifying in a different way. It’s unconditional. It’s irrational. It’s unstoppable. Centering that energy allowed the film to have heart instead of just edge.

You’re already moving into your next project, Don’t F** With Mary Jane. After confronting the cost of being seen in Dark Distortion, are you planning to keep dragging modern culture into the horror genre or do you have an entirely new nightmare in mind?

I don’t think I’ll ever stop examining modern culture; it’s too strange and volatile not to. But Mary Jane approaches it differently.

It’s sharper, more satirical. Instead of asking, “What happens when you’re watched?” it asks, “What happens when someone finally watches back?”

Dark Distortion is available now on all major streaming platforms.

FEATURE MICHAEL CHILDERS PRESENTS ONE NIGHT IN HOLLYWOOD: THE MUSIC OF THE MOVIES

For more than half a century, Michael Childers has immortalized the spirit and glamour of Hollywood through his lens. His celebrated portraits read like a roll call of cinema royalty, featuring luminaries such as Julie Christie, Catherine Deneuve, Clint Eastwood, Richard Gere, Dennis Hopper, Rock Hudson, Grace Jones, Shirley MacLaine, Groucho Marx, Demi Moore, Paul Newman, Laurence Olivier, Michelle Pfeiffer, Isabella Rossellini, John Travolta, Andy Warhol, Mae West, and Natalie Wood, among many others.

Beyond portraiture, Childers built a distinguished career as an onset still photographer, documenting the production of landmark films including Midnight Cowboy, The Day of the Locust, Marathon Man, Coal Miner’s Daughter, The Year of Living Dangerously, The Terminator,

and Torch Song Trilogy. Through these projects, he preserved defining moments from some of cinema’s most influential productions.

This year Michael, in conjunction with The Historic Palm Springs Plaza Theatre, will once again present one of the desert’s most cherished cultural traditions: Michael Childers Presents One Night In Hollywood: The Music of the Movies, on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Hosted by TCM’s Dave Karger

For nearly twenty years, Michael Childers’ star-studded musical extravaganzas were among the Coachella Valley’s most soughtafter events, raising more than $2 million for local charities and attracting audiences from across the region. Now, the celebrated

production returns reimagined and revitalized on the historic Palm Springs stage. Proceeds from the evening will support future community programming at the Plaza Theatre.

This year’s theme, The Music of the Movies, brings together an all-star roster of acclaimed vocalists performing beloved songs spanning Hollywood’s golden age to contemporary cinematic favorites. The evening will be hosted by Dave Karger of Turner Classic Movies, directed by Scott Coulter, and accompanied by musical director Todd Schroeder on piano.

“Bringing One Night In Hollywood to the Plaza Theatre is an extraordinary moment for our community,” says John Bolton, Senior Vice President of Oak View Group and General Manager of the Plaza Theatre. “Michael Childers created something truly magical with this event, and we’re honored to welcome it home for a spectacular evening celebrating timeless music and Hollywood brilliance.”

A defining fixture of the desert’s entertainment scene, One Night In Hollywood returns for one performance only a dazzling, star-filled celebration of film music and the vibrant artistic spirit that

We had the honor to speak with the man himself, the iconic Michael Childers. Here’s what he had to offer to The Standard Magazine readers.

Hi Michael, thank you for taking the time to sit with me today, I know that you are super busy so let’s get right to it.

The Standard Magazine: Philanthropy has been one of your pet projects for many years, why do you dedicate so much of your time and effort to this?

Michael Childers: I have a lot of gratitude for my life in Hollywood, New York and London and it’s always been important to me to give back -- which essentially started with the AIDS crisis. And of course, my many concert events, starting with the original One Night Only in Santa Fe, NM, have helped me raise millions of dollars for charity organizations -- specifically four wonderful charities

here in the desert. This latest concert, One Night in Hollywood, is a fundraiser for the Plaza Theatre Foundation.

TSM: You are well known as the “Photographer of the Stars”, why did celebrities become the subject of the majority of your work?

MC: I graduated from UCLA film school and was around the magical world of Hollywood at that time. I started doing headshots for young actors, actresses and musicians -- many of whom went on become some of the biggest stars of all time. Fame and faces were always a huge part of my life.

TSM: Who was your very first big celebrity you photographed and how did that session come about?

MC: My first big celebrity without a doubt was Natalie Wood. She was one of the biggest stars of the 1960’s when I photographed her for the first time. Those photos appeared in almost every major magazine around the world. Because Natalie trusted me and loved me, she recommended me to all her famous, legendary friends. She truly changed my life, and we remained close friends until her passing in 1981.

TSM: Many artists rely on a muse for inspiration, did you, and if so, who?

MC: My most inspiring muses were the great black & white photographers of the 1930s & ‘40s -- most specifically Geroge Hurrell. In later years, George became a great friend and often rented my studio on Melrose Ave in Hollywood for his sessions. He was my mentor and my friend, which is a nice thing to have.

TSM: Who were your favorite and least favorite celebrities you have photographed?

MC: How do you choose your favorite children? I have a great love for Bette Midler who was my friend at the time I first photographed her and Cher, of course, was a hoot and a half. She had a great sense of camp humor. And John Travolta who was the biggest star in the world in the ‘70s with “Grease” and “Saturday Night Fever. “

I adored the icons of old Hollywood -- Mae West, Groucho Marx, Paul Newman, Gloria Swanson, Paul Neman -- because I knew they were part of a world that was fast disappearing. It was an honor to work with them. I must say that 95% of the artists I worked with were wonderful because they were collaborators. That makes all the difference.

TODD SCHROEDER

TSM: Is there anyone you haven’t photographed that you wished you had?

MC: I can’t believe I was lucky enough to have dinner with Audrey Hepburn on two different occasions and never got to photograph her. She was the most enchanting person I ever met. She’s the one that got away.

TSM: Coming back to One Night in Hollywood, how did you go about choosing who will be performing?

MC: I was talking with one of my best collaborators Scott Coulter, with whom I created “Viva Las Vegas” and “New York, New York,” about what our next themed show should be. We both love Hollywood and the movies, and I suggested we use Dave Karger’s great book “Fifty Oscar Nights” as a theme. Then we reached out to our favorite singers using my infamous golden rolodex.

TSM: Tell us how were you able to get a powerhouse duo

MC: Scott, Todd, and I have worked very well together for many years on a variety of thematic sold-out musical evenings At this point they’re both family to me. We’re all huge fans of Dave Karger of Turner Classic Movies so I just picked up the phone and called him. We were delighted he wanted to join us.

TSM: Can you share any hints about what audiences can expect from this year’s performance? Are there any surprises in store?

MC: It’s a very intimate musical conversation about these beloved Oscar-nominated film songs and which ones won....and more, surprisingly, which ones didn’t.

Tickets are available now exclusively through Ticketmaster at www.palmspringsplazatheatre.com

BOOK

ALWAYS OVERBOOKED

Nobody likes you very much.

That’s how it seems sometimes, doesn’t it? Nobody wants to see you around, they don’t want to hear your voice, they can’t stand the thought of your existence and they’d really rather you just go away. It’s infuriating, and in the new book “The Queer Thing About Sin” by Harry Tanner, you’ll see how we got to this point. When he was a teenager, Harry Tanner says that he thought he “was going to hell.”

For years, he’d been attracted to men, and he prayed that it would stop. He asked for help from a lay minister who offered Tanner websites meant to repress his urges, but they weren’t the panacea Tanner hoped for. It wasn’t until he went to college that he found the answers he needed and “stopped fearing God’s retribution.”

Being gay wasn’t a sin. Not ever, but he “still wanted to know why Western Culture believed it was for so long.”

Historically, many believe that older men were sexual “mentors” for teenage boys, but Tanner says that in ancient Greece and Rome, same-sex relationships were common between male partners of equal age and between differently aged pairs, both. Clarity comes by understanding relationships between husbands and wives then, and careful translation of the word “boy,” to show that age wasn’t a factor, but superiority and inferiority were.

In ancient Athens, queer love was considered to be “noble” but after the Persians sacked Athens, sex between men instead became an acceptable act of aggression aimed at conquered enemies. Confoundingly, raping a male prisoner was encouraged but “Gay men became symbols of a depraved lack of self-control and abstinence.”

Later Greeks believed that men could turn into women “if they weren’t sufficiently virile.” Biblical interpretations point to more conflict; Leviticus specifically bans queer sex but “the Sumerians actively encouraged it.” The Egyptians hated it, but “there are sporadic clues that same-sex partners lived together in ancient Egypt.”

Says Tanner, “all is not what it seems.”

So, you say you’re not really into ancient history. If it’s not your thing, then “The Queer Thing About Sin” won’t be, either.

Just know that if you skip this book, you’re missing out on the kind of excitement you get from reading mythology, but what’s here is true, and a much wider view than mere folklore. Author Harry Tanner invites readers to go deep inside philosophy, religion, and ancient culture, but the information he brings is not dry. No, there are

major battles brought to life here, vanquished enemies and death – but also love, acceptance, even encouragement that the citizens of yore in many societies embraced and enjoyed. Tanner explains carefully how religious credo tied in with homosexuality (or didn’t) and he brings readers up to speed through recent times.

While this is not a breezy vacation read or a curl-up-with-ablanket kind of book, “The Queer Thing About Sin” is absolutely worth spending time with. If you’re a thinking person and can give yourself a chance to ponder, you’ll like it very much.

MARIAH HANSON SELLS THE DINAH AFTER 35 HISTORIC YEARS

After 35 groundbreaking years, The Dinah, the world’s most iconic and longest-running music festival and party for queer women, has entered a new era. Founder and producer Mariah Hanson has sold the celebrated Palm Springs institution to two trusted members of the Dinah family: operations veteran Bella Barkow and beloved Dinah emcee, reality TV personality, and real estate entrepreneur Rose Garcia.

The acquisition ensures The Dinah remains independently owned, community-led, and firmly rooted in LGBTQ+ culture. Barkow and Garcia will guide the festival under their newly founded company, BellaRose Productions, signaling not just continuity, but a bold evolution of a cultural institution that has shaped queer women’s

space for more than three decades. Few LGBTQ+ events, especially those centered on queer women, have achieved The Dinah’s level of longevity, cultural impact, and global recognition. This transition marks a pivotal moment in queer history.

Garcia and Barkow bring complementary strengths and an insider’s understanding of what has made The Dinah transformative for generations. Garcia, widely known as the real-life inspiration behind the iconic “Papi” on The L Word, brings a rare blend of star power, authenticity, and unwavering commitment to LGBTQ+ visibility. A fan favorite on The Real L Word, she balances leading Garcia Real Estate Group with advocacy, visibility, and community leadership. A prominent Latina lesbian entrepreneur, Garcia has been featured in Newsweek, BuzzFeed, and appeared on Million

Dollar Listing Los Angeles and House Hunters. A Stage 3 ovarian cancer survivor now in remission, she steps into this new chapter with renewed purpose as co-owner of The Dinah.

Barkow’s path to co-ownership is equally rooted in lived experience and deep operational knowledge. With a career spanning Toronto raves to major festivals across Los Angeles, she has built a reputation as a formidable force in large-scale LGBTQ+

event production. Since joining The Dinah team in 2018, Barkow rose swiftly from pool party stage manager to operations manager, gaining intimate knowledge of the festival’s inner workings and the community it serves. Her work across West Hollywood nightlife, queer women’s programming, and major festivals including LA Pride and Outloud Festival has firmly established her as a leader in California’s queer event landscape.

PROFILE

“I’ve been to over 20 Dinah events, and each one has been unforgettable, a place to meet incredible women, build lifelong friendships, and feel fully accepted,” says Garcia. “Keeping The Dinah in the family ensures Mariah’s legacy lives on. Bella and I share the same deep love and unwavering dedication to this festival.”

“The Dinah has been a cornerstone of queer culture for decades,” adds Barkow. “Seeing it on The L Word made coming out feel a little less scary. Carrying Mariah’s legacy forward alongside Rose is deeply personal. This festival was my safe space, and our goal is to preserve that sense of belonging for generations to come.”

Together, their leadership promises a thoughtful balance of tradition and innovation, preserving what has made The Dinah legendary while infusing it with fresh energy and bold ideas.

That future begins now. The Dinah’s milestone 35th edition launches the next chapter, with The Dinah 2026 officially set for

September 30 through October 4, returning to the Hilton Palm Springs and Hotel Zoso. The full lineup and programming will be announced in June.

For Hanson, the moment is both reflective and hopeful. “Rose and Bella are the perfect duo to take over The Dinah,” she says.

“This festival is my life’s work. Watching it continue as a beacon of visibility and hope, especially in these times, fills my heart. The Dinah is in very good hands.”

In an era when few queer women–centered events survive, let alone thrive, this landmark transition ensures The Dinah’s story is far from over. It’s only just beginning.

MUSTSEE ANOTHER GAY SEQUEL: GAYS GONE WILD! THE RE-RELEASE

Breaking Glass Pictures proudly announced the re-release of the cult-favorite LGBTQ+ comedy Another Gay Sequel: Gays Gone Wild! on March 3, 2026. Originally released in 2008, the outrageous and unapologetically queer sequel has secured its place in pop culture thanks to its fearless humor, stacked guest appearances, and vivid time-capsule snapshot of late-2000s gay nightlife, celebrity, and sex-positive storytelling.

“The gay community has evolved so much over the past twenty years,” says Rich Wolf of Breaking Glass Pictures, an executive producer on the film. “Another Gay Sequel: Gays Gone Wild! is a joyful reminder of a pre-Grindr, pre-influencer era—when a wild, party-fueled week at the beach was all about freedom, friendship, and the thrill of letting loose, and what happened there really did stay there.”

Written and directed by Todd Stephens and a follow-up to his 2006 film Another Gay Movie, Another Gay Sequel: Gays Gone Wild! reunites fan-favorite characters Andy, Nico, Jarod, and Griff, trading collegiate chaos for a sun-soaked Spring Break in Fort Lauderdale. What begins as a carefree vacation quickly spirals into a no-holds-barred competition dubbed “Gays Gone Wild!” where the rules are simple: hook up with as many guys as possible over the course of Spring Break. The winner earns the coveted and completely ridiculous distinction of “Miss Gay Gone Wild.”

True to its title, Another Gay Sequel: Gays Gone Wild! doubles down on camp, comedy, and chaos. Andy (played by Jake Mosser), no longer the awkward underdog, finds himself effortlessly attracting attention, but is thrown off course when he unexpectedly

falls for Luis (Euriamis Losada), a charming and handsome virgin who challenges Andy’s assumptions about love, intimacy, and emotional connection. Meanwhile, Nico’s (Jonah Blechman, who shared an onscreen kiss with Leonardo DiCaprio in This Boy’s Life) confidence is shaken when he struggles to attract anyone at all, escaping instead into an ongoing fantasy involving a shirtless merman played by adult film icon Brent Corrigan.

Jarod (Jimmy Clabots) and Griff (Aaron Michael Davies) face a different dilemma: now a committed couple, they must decide whether entering the contest together is worth the potential strain on their relationship. Adding to the madness is a hyper-competitive trio all named Jasper (played by Will Wikle, Brand Lim, and Isaac Webster) who will stop at nothing to rig the contest in their favor.

The film is also remembered for its over-the-top celebrity cameos, many of which feel even more iconic in retrospect. Another Gay Sequel features appearances by RuPaul, Scott Thompson (Kids in the Hall), RuPaul’s Drag Race star Willam Belli, and adult entertainment legends Michael Lucas and the late Colton Ford. A

particularly notorious subplot involves gossip blogger Perez Hilton, who appears as himself in a surreal storyline that sees him suffer a head injury, transform into a fire-and-brimstone religious zealot bent on suppressing gay debauchery, and then, after another blow to the head, snap right back to form.

Upon its original release, Another Gay Sequel: Gays Gone Wild! found an enthusiastic audience that embraced its raunchy humor, unapologetic queerness, and refusal to sanitize gay sexuality for mainstream comfort. Over the years, the film has gained cult status, celebrated for capturing a specific moment in LGBTQ+ media when camp, controversy, and sex positivity collided without apology.

The 2026 re-release invites longtime fans to revisit the film and introduces a new generation to a boldly irreverent comedy that helped push queer cinema further into the mainstream by being loud, messy, and proudly itself.

Another Gay Sequel: Gays Gone Wild! will be available on all major streaming platforms on March 3.

DAPHEALTH

THE TOP 5 MYTHS ABOUT COLORECTAL CANCER

March is National Colorectal Cancer Month. Since the disease — which affects the colon and/or rectum — is the second deadliest cancer in the U.S., this time of year is when we at DAP Health advocate for routine screening (starting at age 45).

Despite how common this cancer is, many people still believe persistent myths about it. These can stop people from getting screened for the illness, detecting it early, and receiving lifesaving treatment. So, let’s clear up the facts.

Myth #1: Only older people get colorectal cancer

Truth: While colorectal cancer is more common in older adults, younger people can get it too. In recent years, more people under 50 have been diagnosed. That’s why doctors now recommend starting regular screening at age 45 for most adults. Some people may need screening even earlier if they have a family history or certain health conditions. No matter what your age, talk to your DAP Health primary care clinician if you have symptoms like stomach pain, blood in your stool, or changes in bathroom habits.

Myth #2: I feel fine, so I don’t need screening

Truth: Colorectal cancer often has no symptoms at first. Many people feel perfectly healthy when cancer is just starting. Screening tests can find cancer early — before symptoms appear. They can also find small growths called polyps, which can be removed before they turn into cancer. Feeling fine does not mean you are risk-free. Screening saves lives.

Myth #3: Colonoscopies are painful and scary

Truth: Most people say colonoscopies are not painful. During the test, patients are given medicine to help them relax or sleep. Many people don’t remember the test at all. While preparing for the test (by using medication the night before to empty out the bowels) can be uncomfortable and/or annoying, it’s truly no big deal — and well worth it. There are also other screening options, like stoolbased tools such as Cologuard, which test for hidden bleeding and abnormal DNA markers associated with polyps or cancer cells. Your DAP Health clinician can help you choose what’s best for you.

Myth

#4: Colorectal cancer only affects men

Truth: Colorectal cancer doesn’t discriminate by gender. Anyone can develop colorectal cancer. Risk depends on many factors, including age, family history, diet, smoking, alcohol use, and access to health care. So, all people — no matter their gender — should follow screening guidelines and talk with their DAP Health clinician about their risk.

Myth #5: A colorectal cancer diagnosis means it’s too late

Truth: Colorectal cancer is highly treatable. Many people survive, especially when it’s caught early through screening. Treatment options have improved, and people can live long, healthy lives after diagnosis. Early detection gives patients more choices and better outcomes. That’s why screening and regular checkups are so important.

The Bottom Line

“Colorectal cancer myths can cause fear or delay care — but facts save lives,” concludes DAP Health Chief Medical Officer Joseph Aquilina, MD, MBA. “Screening, early detection, and open conversations with your DAP Health clinician can make a real difference. If you are age 45 or older — or have risk factors — ask about screening. It’s a simple step that can protect your health and your future. For you, and for those you love who want you here with them for as long as possible.”

To learn more about colorectal cancer screening options (including colonoscopy referrals and/or at-home Cologuard testing), please speak with your DAP Health primary care clinician or visit daphealth.org/ health-services/colorectal-cancer-screening.

Using deep data mining and advanced machine learning algorithms in a specialized bioinformatics pipeline, Parabon — with funding support from the US Department of Defense (DoD) — developed the Snapshot Forensic DNA Phenotyping System, which accurately predicts genetic ancestry, eye color, hair color, skin color, freckling, and face shape in individuals from any ethnic background, even individuals with mixed ancestry. Each phenotype prediction is made with a measure of confidence, including those that can be excluded with high confidence.

CeCe Moore’s Genetic Genealogy model and Parabon’s proprietary Snapshot Forensic DNA Phenotyping System in close collaboration with Law Enforcement, has produced a record number of perpetrator identifications, convictions and exonerations without equal anywhere.

Jennie Garth is best known for playing the iconic role of Kelly Taylor in the beloved television series “Beverly Hills, 90210”. Now in her 50s, this part inspirational memoir, part motivational advice book empowers women to choose a path of health, healing, and happiness.

In I Choose Me – inspired by her thought-provoking podcast of the same name – Jennie brings her signature mix of warmth, honesty, and humor to this deeply personal book about self-discovery and reclaiming your power.

CECE MOORE
JENNIE GARTH

Through fame, heartbreak, motherhood, and personal reinvention, Jennie discovered the transformative power of putting herself first. By learning to prioritize her own needs and desires, she found the strength to thrive—and to uplift others. In this inspiring book, Jennie invites readers on a deeply personal journey, championing self-care and encouraging women to reclaim control of their mental and physical well-being.

Blending intimate stories and hard-won wisdom on a variety of topics – from health and aging to motherhood and relationships, grief, faith, and finding purpose – Jennie’s reflections offer a road map to help you say yes to one’s truest self. Whether it’s finding clarity in chaos, carving out moments for to recharge, or learning to trust your voice again, she shows how choosing “you” isn’t selfish—it’s

the most powerful act of self-respect.

Garth says, “This book is the culmination of everything I’ve lived, lost, and learned. With I Choose Me, I wanted to share the messy, beautiful truth of what it takes to rediscover yourself— through motherhood, heartbreak, aging, and reinvention. My hope is that every woman who reads it feels seen, supported, and inspired to put herself first without guilt.”

PALM SPRINGS GAY MEN’S CHORUS PRESENTS “RHINESTONES & RAINBOWS”

Sequins will sparkle, boots will stomp, and voices will soar! The Palm Springs Gay Men’s Chorus (PSGMC), Official Inaugural Resident Artists of the magnificently restored Plaza Theatre, announces that tickets are now on sale for its dazzling spring concert spectacular, “Rhinestones & Rainbows,” running April 24–26, 2026.

Inspired by the fearless heart, humor, and rhinestone-covered legacy of Dolly Parton, Rhinestones & Rainbows is a bold, highenergy celebration of self-expression, resilience, and unapologetic joy. Blending country, pop, and LGBTQ+ cultural touchstones, the production delivers soulful harmonies, dazzling visuals, and pure, communal catharsis; the kind of joy that only PSGMC’s signature blend of showmanship and heart can deliver.

“This concert is joyful, bold, and completely unafraid to shine,” said Artistic Director Jerry R. Soria-Foust. Quoting Parton in Elle Magazine, “I’m flashy, and I’m flamboyant. Had I not been a girl, I definitely would have been a drag queen!” Soria-Foust added with a laugh, “Rhinestones & Rainbows embraces that exact spirit, flashy, flamboyant, and full of love.”

Featuring all 130+ members of the Palm Springs Gay Men’s Chorus and a seven-piece country-western-style band, the stage will

be transformed into a rhinestone-studded fantasia, complete with blue jeans, cowboy boots, and an explosion of color and light. The first half of the program is a full-throttle tribute to Dolly Parton, showcasing beloved classics including “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” and “I Will Always Love You,” performed with fresh arrangements and heartfelt reverence.

The second half expands the celebration into a powerhouse parade of crossover icons. Artists who blurred genres, shattered expectations, and became anthems for generations of fans. Selections from Lady Gaga, Linda Ronstadt, Cyndi Lauper, Kelly Clarkson, P!nk, Cher, Taylor Swift, and Miley Cyrus bring the house down, weaving together pop, country, rock, and dance into a triumphant, rainbowbright finale.

At its core, Rhinestones & Rainbows is more than a concert—it’s an unapologetic statement. Designed to uplift, affirm, and celebrate the full spectrum of identity, the program embraces PSGMC’s mission to create connection and visibility through music, especially during these times of uncertainty when joy itself feels radical.

Audiences are enthusiastically encouraged to dress the part, arriving in their most fabulous Dolly-inspired looks. Think big hair and fringe to rhinestones, rainbows, and unapologetic glam.

MIKE MAIMONE BRINGS HIS HEARTFELT MEMOIR AND MUSIC TO PALM SPRINGS >>

When musician, producer, and author Mike Maimone releases a work, it’s an invitation into his life, his loves, and the music that shaped both. On Friday, March 13 at 7 PM, Maimone will bring that deeply personal journey to life at Oscars Downtown (125 E Tahquitz Canyon Way in Palm Springs) with a performance of songs from his new album, Guess What? I Love You — the musical heart of his memoir of the same name.

In Guess What? I Love You, Maimone offers readers an honest and moving account of his relationship with Howard Bragman, the legendary Hollywood publicist who helped guide high-profile figures through some of the most pivotal moments of their lives and became a visible champion for LGBTQ+ visibility long before broader public acceptance. Bragman’s career spanned crisis management, academia, best-selling books, and trusted television commentary. All were marked by moral clarity and fearless candor.

But the heart of Maimone’s story is personal. Maimone and Bragman met later in life when both had given up hope of finding their “forever person.” Embracing what he calls his “Year of Yes” — a period rooted in openness to the unexpected — Mike found humor, musical inspiration, and deep connection with Howard. Their partnership was defined by laughter, personal awakenings, and powerful authenticity. Then the unthinkable happened: Bragman died suddenly, leaving Maimone to navigate profound grief.

To process that loss and honor their bond, Maimone turned to

both words and music. The memoir is paired with an album that moves from funky piano blues to poignant ballads, concluding with alt-country revival sounds woven together with intimate voicemails. These tracks don’t just complement the book; they expand it, guiding listeners through joy, heartbreak, healing, and the radical act of staying open to love and possibility.

The album brings an emotional arc to life in ways the written page alone cannot, with layered arrangements reflecting the narrative’s texture and emotional complexity. Together, the memoir and album stand as a single work: a celebration of enduring love and the courage to keep the heart open even after loss.

Both the memoir and album are now available at major retailers like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Bookshop.org, as well as Maimone’s website.

This month, Maimone brings this powerful artistic project directly to audiences. On March 13, fans and newcomers alike have the chance to hear songs from Guess What? I Love You performed live in Palm Springs. The night promises to be emotionally resonant and musically rich with Mike reminding us that love, loss, and legacy are universal and that music and story can help us traverse even the hardest terrain.

PERSPECTIVE UNDERSTANDING YOUR BODY THROUGH AI

Happy March, Everyone! Life is good. The situation we are facing is not, but life is so much more attractive to me then death, so I am choosing to enjoy everyday.

It’s not that I have on rose colored glasses but instead have made some definitive changes that of all things involve AI. I used AI to assist me better understanding my body. It included asking it for help with supplements and prescriptions which has resulted in me feeling better than I have in a decade.

But as we know AI is a very hot topic right now and one that I’d like to discuss with you.

First, let me say that I was totally opposed to AI. I mentioned that I’m starting a podcast that will be called, “From the Inside Out,” and it’s about authenticity. So, using AI was as far from being authentic as a person can get therefore, I was very reluctant to use it.

However, in December when I returned from my Southeast Asia cruise, I discovered that my hair was falling out in round circle patches, something that I have never experienced before. I found out

that my type of hair loss was indicative of a decrease in stored iron or ferritin in my body.

But what is Ferritin and why do we need it?

Ferritin is:

“A protein produced in mammalian metabolism which serves to store iron in the tissues, with the highest concentrations being found in the liver, spleen, bone marrow, and reticuloendothelial cells and transports it to areas where it is required.”

“It’s also needed for the health of red blood cells and muscle proteins and the functioning of body cells. It’s critical in energy production, DNA synthesis, oxygen transport and gene regulation”

I have been getting my blood tested four times a year for the last 26 years. A very unusual thing for 99% of all humans. Typically, most doctors recommend getting your blood drawn once every 12 months. But I know many people who do not follow this and some who have not had their blood drawn for decades. But I am fascinated by the body and kind of go overboard.

My ferritin levels like many blood tests, have varying ranges from 11- 232! Women and men have different ranges which is also important to know. Much like testosterone where the range is 200-

that neither my doctor or me were paying attention and nothing was done to understand why. But somehow, my body began to recover and sometime after Covid and two vaccines, my levels began to rise

CHLOE QISHA RELEASES NEW SINGLE “YDH”

Chloe Qisha returns with her contagious new single, “YDH,” out now via Sony Music UK/RCA Records. “YDH” is Chloe’s second single to come out following her sophomore EP, Modern Romance, which was released in May 2025. The single is accompanied by a music video, directed by Iris Luz (PinkPantheress, Wet Leg) which is available to watch below.

On “YDH,” Chloe Qisha delivers another undeniable futurepop gem. The track bursts with vibrant, upbeat melodies, weaving in funk and disco influences from across the decades, yet remaining fresh and firmly rooted in contemporary pop - this intoxicating blend has quickly become Chloe’s signature sound. For the single, Chloe teamed up with Steph Jones, Oscar Gorres, and Rob Milton.

Speaking about her new single, Chloe Qisha said:

“YDH’ was written in one joy-filled, jet-lagged day. It was the perfect reset for a very stressful year - and it reminded me that this next project is about chasing fun. The song taps into that feral, fairy-tale kind of attraction — the all-consuming crush that makes you reckless, invested, and a little dramatic. It’s one of the fantasies I’ll be dipping into for this next project - I want people to let their

hair down and stepping into full princess mode. This song was made for hootin’ and hollerin’ in the shower, at home with your cats, on a night out - wherever.”

Following a run of shows last summer, including supporting Coldplay at Wembley Stadium for three nights, Sabrina Carpenter’s British Summer Time, All Points East, Primavera, and Leeds Festival, Chloe Qisha embarked on her UK and EU tour in October 2025, which included a sold-out show at London’s Village Underground. This year Chloe will begin her first ever US and Canadian tour in March/April 2026 with dates across New York, Montréal, Toronto, Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. All tour dates can be found below, and tickets can be purchased HERE.

Chloe Qisha is a truly special talent and despite only launching her career in July 2024 and having played her first show in October 2024, Chloe has already achieved huge success. In 2026, she was longlisted in BBC’s prestigious annual Sound Of list. Since her debut, Chloe has been featured on the cover of Rolling Stone UK, NME, NOTION, Dork, and KNUCKLE, and lauded by a plethora of publications including New York Times, Billboard, British Vogue, The Face, ELLE UK, BBC, CLASH, DORK, DIY, to name just a few Follow Chloe Qisha On Socials

HILLARY DUFF RELEASES SIXTH STUDIO ALBUM

Multiplatinum global superstar Hilary Duff has officially released her highly anticipated sixth studio album, “luck… or something”, available now via Atlantic Records. Co-written by Hilary and produced by her husband, GRAMMY® Award-winning songwriter/producer Matthew Koma (Britney Spears, P!nk), and Brian Phillips (Alec Benjamin, blink-182), the 11-track collection features previously released singles, “Mature” and “Roommates” and arrives alongside an official visual for the album’s standout opening track, “Weather For Tennis”

“There’s that question of whether women can have it all, and through this process I learned I had to sacrifice some things in order to put the record first,” shares Hilary. “As hard as that is, I still believe it’s okay to choose yourself sometimes and do what scares the hell out of you. Carving out the time to make an album after all these years was incredibly powerful for me, and now I can’t wait to share it with the world.”

Pulled between the chaos and clarity of motherhood, marriage, and finding herself in her 30s, Duff dreamed up a batch of songs that uncover the secret corners of her inner world: her hidden longings and quiet insecurities, intrusive thoughts and deepest obsessions. In a bold evolution of her artistry, she crafted every track with equal parts sensitivity, self-awareness, and wildly charming wit.

“luck… or something” was heralded by its first single, “Mature.” Hailed by VOGUE for “pushing Duff’s sound in new directions while

still feeling quintessentially Hilary,” the sardonic, shimmering track – which quickly earned over 5M global streams in its first week of release – arrived as a piece of autofiction inspired by romantic misadventures in her formative years. Set against bright pop production and layered with Duff’s signature wit and vulnerability, “Mature” is accompanied by an evocative music video directed by Lauren Dunn (Olivia Rodrigo, Dove Cameron, Saweetie), which has garnered nearly 4M views via YouTube.

Currently climbing at Pop & Hot AC Radio, the album’s second single, “Roommates,” was met with high-profile praise from outlets including Billboard, V Magazine, and Rolling Stone, the latter of which declared it “10 OUT OF 10…one of her best songs.” “Roommates” is accompanied by an official music video directed by Matty Peacock (Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande) and currently boasting over 2M views.

Duff will celebrate “luck… or something” with the lucky me tour, her first full-scale global headline run in almost two decades. Spanning seven countries, with dates across the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, the world tour begins with a two-night run in West Palm Beach, FL June 21 & 22, and travels into February 2027. Due to incredible fan demand, second shows have been added including multiple nights in Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, London, West Palm Beach, Vancouver, and Mexico City.

Last month saw Duff marking the new album’s impending arrival with the first of two SOLD-OUT limited engagements at the Voltaire at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas, with the next set for May 2224. Hilary’s landmark 2026 kicked off last month with her “Small Rooms, Big Nerves” dates, an instantly SOLD-OUT global run of very special live shows marking her first headline concert appearances in over a decade.

“I constantly get asked how I still have my head on straight after growing up in this industry,” says Hilary. “The album title is my way of answering that question, which felt right for a record that’s about where I’ve landed and all the things I’ve been through along the way.”
