AUGUST 2021 VOL. 21 ISSUE 8

FROM THE EDITOR'S CHAIR n By Bob Twigg

Now events are starting again, albeit a bit limited, there are several events in the Southern, South Eastern and South Midland centres that should keep us happy. Strange that you can have 10,000 "fans" at a football match but no spectators allowed at trials etc. I would have thought that the shouting and so on, also the ( swearing and booing), would be a risk of spreading the horrid virus. Let's not get too sad but we will still have to be careful though. A recent announcement from the ACU requires competitors when entering events and signing on to confirm they have not tested positive or have been required to self isolate if they have shown any symptoms. As clubs are getting going again it would be nice to see more "volunteers" come forward to do jobs with clubs. Moto cross always need marshals, they also need folk to lay out the track as do trials organisers with section lay out and route marking. Years ago the Cambridge Matchless club always had the Brian Stonebridge trial run over a huge course around Cambridge. Many miles of track riding, muddy fields, a great day out. At the entrance to the various sections there was a notice board telling the name of the section group and how many hazards were there. Fantastic work carried out by certainly one of the best clubs in the South Midland Centre . The Stonebridge is still run but with a reduced size of course, still a "brillo" event though! Soon TSM will have an article by one of the best riders in the country , telling us about his motorcycle career, don't miss it. He has done a "ton" of biking over the years and it should be fascinating reading. Here once again an appeal for more content for the mag, we need reports of trials, motocross, road racing and riders experiences whilst travelling the wide World, it all makes this paperwork worth well.

Darren Haines

Wycombe & District Motor Cycle Club - June Trial Q  By John Eckhart Photos by sliders. photography The trial was organised by the Wycombe and District MCC at Great Wood near Hambledon. The trial comprised 4 laps of ten sections marked out with three routes of varying severity. Despite a rainy June there were only 3 sections that were muddy and that included section ten, which took the most marks from most classes. The remaining sections were dry but still took marks on the loose surface on the cambered turns and climbs on the banks 8

and hillside. The expert contest was won by Ryan Tomkins who lost 5 marks and finished ahead of Stephen Douglas (19 marks) and Alicia Robinson (24 marks). The most marks were lost by this class on section 10 where the riders had to ride up a step and then over roots to get out of the muddy ditch. Stephen had the only cleans on section 10 loosing just a single five but Ryan lost less on the muddy turns of section 6. Darren Haines won the Intermediate Class on the 50/50 hard route by a furthest clean special test from Ian

Martin Howlett

Watts both losing 20 marks. Both Darren and Ian lost most

Adrian Steele of their marks on the muddy sections 6 & 10 but Darren was the only Intermediate to clean section 10. Wycombe's Paul Heron was third on 47. The best Novice on the middle route was Wycombe's Jim Morris who lost 45 marks just ahead of Kevin Fishlock who lost 49 and Jim's son Kai on 61. The best ride on this route was by Adrian Steele who lost 12 ahead of Brian Tomkins on 28 and Robert McIntyre on 30. Andy Earnshaw was best Twin-shock rider on the middle route losing 21 marks ahead of Wycombe's Peter Thatcher on 56 and Paul Meader on 66. The only youth was Youth B rider Josh Brown who did well riding the middle route to finish on 89. The middle route riders lost most of their marks in the muddy sections. Pete Haines lost 23 marks to top the Sportsman hard class on the 50/50 easy route just beating Gordon Pusey who lost 25. Nick James lost 3 marks on his DOT to take victory in the Brit Bike Easy class on the easy route ahead of Mick Clarkson (6) on the BSA Bantam who beat Chris Pickup on the Tiger

Peter Haines Cub by the most cleans special test. Just behind on 7 was Wycombe's Chris Hurworth on the big rigid 500 BSA. Best Sportsman on the easy route was Martin Howlett who lost just one mark on the 175 Yamaha. Second and third were Jerry Pack and Stephanie Tombling on 7 and 8.
