FROM THE EDITOR'S CHAIR n By Bob Twigg

The Covid thing drags on, though there are signs of a revival of events in various disciplines. Three centres, the South Eastern, Southern and South Midland are running trials, motocross and enduros, on a limited entry and a stricter basis. On the limited entry subject, some clubs are limiting the entry to their own club members and others to a first come first served basis. No observers in trials, and riders are sent off in groups with one rider observing all of his group. A shame that in a way as it makes me "redundant"! Observers cards are then subject to "quarantine" until the sec; can add up the scores.

Editor & Advertising and Distribution

It does mean of course that the results will be issued later than usual, just like the old days when you had a skin to be typed out before it was put in the dreaded duplicator. Many happy hours spent turning a wheel only for the machine to spit out five or six vacant sheets, Aah! Also we used to enter with postal orders, (I can hear the young'uns laughing)!

OCTOBER 2020 VOL. 20 ISSUE 10 PUBLISHED ON THE 1ST OF EACH MONTH

All material for TSM should reach the editor by the tenth day of the month preceding publication.

In this issue there is a great article written by Alicia Robinson, relating to her very successful trials "career", she is riding in the Ladies World championship rounds. At the time of writing she is in Isola for two days of the World rounds, I know that all of us wish her the very best of luck in those difficult trials. Alicia is of course the daughter of North Berks "ace" Stuart Robinson, the main man in the Seymours Arena trials and many other events by the North Berks club. If you folk want to keep fit just go and watch Stu' at a trial, he watches Alicia at every section on every lap and most times at a run, A fit man, apart from being a really good expert a little while ago! Here I am going to make a plea to all club members to "take the reins" and try to understand the difficulties of being secretary or being a marshal. I'm sure existing secs; and C of C's will help you in any way they can. At the moment all permits are issued from the ACU at Rugby, so please volunteer even if it is only once a year, just observing or marshalling would be a great help as many of todays organisers are approaching "old codgerhood"! If you do take part in events in these difficult times please don't forget to say thank you to the club members for putting on the event. Enjoy our sport.

Alicia Robinson

My name is Alicia Robinson, I am 18 years old and I have been riding motorcycle trials since the age of four. I am a member of my local trials club, North Berks MCC, who run a variety of events from a beginner to advanced level. My first motorbike was a rev and go 50cc, called an Xispa, I then had a GasGas 50cc which was followed by a Beta 80cc, I rode my Beta 80cc from nine to 12 years old, and transitioned to a Beta 125cc at thirteen. My current bike is a Beta 250cc. My dad has always been a part of the motorcycle trials world, previously minding for the top level men riders but as my talent has continued to grow he is now my full time minder and mechanic. My passion for this sport grew as I got older and started to compete in the British Championships. I quickly grew to be as compassionate as my Dad, which lead me to compete in bigger International events, such as the European and World Championships. In 2019 I competed in the full series of the FIM 6

TrialGP Women2 World Championship, of which is an extremely competitive class of 18 riders from around the world. I travelled to Portugal

and France for the first and second rounds of the 2019 Championship, picking up a 6th and 9th position, after this disappointing start to the championship I was determined to improve my result. I pushed myself to the limit during training at home, having early mornings and late evenings on the bike and spent a lot of time in the gym with my personal trainer. The final round of the World Championship was held in the urban town of La Nucia, on the outskirts of Benidorm. As there was a large entry in the Trial2 Women's Class, I knew I had to work tremendously hard to gain myself a good result. During the trial temperatures reached 28 degrees on the steep embankments of the Spanish mountains, I did not tire all day, and managed to keep myself at the peak of my performance to take my first ever World Championship Round Victory. As I finished the event I was greeted with a huge applause and many congratulations from the spectators and fellow competitors. The news of me winning brought tears to my eyes, I have been working exceptionally hard for many years to achieve this goal and now I have my eyes set on winning the FIM TrialGP Women2 Championship. I love this sport, because not only does it allow me to ride my bike against the worlds best riders, but it has also taken me to many amazing places across the world. I have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to ride in countries such as America and Japan, as well as other beautiful countries in Europe. Over the winter period I put in lots of hours training on and off my bike, focusing on my fitness and strength. With the uncertainty of Covid-19 and every competition being cancelled due to lockdown, this meant I could not train on my bike for a couple of months. This meant I had to train from home, on my pushbike and doing fitness in the garden. As the lockdown rules were eased, I had the opportunity to go and compete in the Spanish Championships in July. This was a good experience, and enabled me to feel comfortable on the bike ahead of starting the World Championships this year. This September will see me and my father travelling

to Isola 2000, France, Pobladura de Las Regueras, Spain and Sant Julia de Loria, Andorra for the revised FIM world Championship, where I will be trying my hardest to take podium positions. None of this would be possible without my amazing sponsors and family who put their time and effort into me and my greatest passion, enabling me to be the best I can be. A special thank you to Top Trial Team, Acklams Beta, Beta UK, Absolute Casing, Bicester Tyre and Exhaust, Dereck Does All, Fleur De Lys, GLL Sport Foundation, MPA Liquid Screed, North Berks MCC, Utopia Disco, Sportspecific, Standlake Vehicle Services and SY Services.Â

Waltham Chase Trials Club - Alan Sansom Trophy Trial

did lose twenty one, ten of the marks were on section 8 which included a huge climb up the hillside changing direction over hillocks, two fives were followed by a clean on the last lap much to Tom's satisfaction. Dave Roberts was a distant second but as he moves up the classes it was a good result. Seventy plus Reynard Norris enjoyed victory in the Intermediates edging out Alex Taylor who lost a costly five on the tricky section 7 climb where he inspected the grass far too closely. Mick Marshall was a clear winner in the clubman

Mick Marshall Q  By Andy Withers Waltham Chase TC had the rare privilege of holding the Alan Sansom Trophy Trial at Langrish in Hampshire on the site of the old Ken Hall Trophy Scramble. Covid 19 socially distancing rules were fully in place with plenty of space available for parking and riding for the sixty six riders. Sections were spread out mainly on the grass and woodland hillsides providing plenty of steep climbs and drops to provide excitement for riders of all levels. Thomas Moss took on the challenge of the expert route not on his modern bike but on his Geoff Muston prepared Fantic 156cc. He still topped the class by almost fifty points but 30

class showing tremendous throttle control on some of the cross camber turns to finish clear of Mark Shipp who pipped Michael Hinton by a single mark for second. Charlie Tindle and Neil Clarke circulated together on the B route, Charlie on his BSA B40 finishing well ahead of Neil who found it a challenge not having the engine breaking of his normal four stroke Ariel. On the novice route Andy Pattison lost just two to finish ahead of a group of four riders who were only separated by two marks from second to fifth, Gary Blackmore coming second. Geoff Muston topped the Twinshock B equalling Pattison's best score, next up were Mik Machinek and Tony Billingham who were only separated by the number of cleans after both finishing on eleven. On the D route Karen Clarke and Steve Sell both lost just one. Karen putting in a great performance finishing eleven ahead of Chris Page on his Drayton Bantam. Steve on his Twinshock Ossa was just three ahead of motocrosser Arron Gamblin who is new to trials and put in a good ride one ahead of Keith Sansom. In the Youths, Toby Brawn was the only B route runner finishing only eleven behind his Dad Chris' score on the same route. Likewise as the loan runner, Miles Garland rode well on the C route to post a score matching some of the adult runners, and on the D route Finlay Coles lost just five finishing ahead of David James in second. Experts Thomas Moss David Roberts
