BLIND IDOLATRY The term “fanatic” is often used negatively, considering that anything exceeding the normal is bad. Support is okay, as long as it is rooted in rationality, critical-thinking, and the urge to provide positive changes. A lot of people, especially teenagers, can relate to the movie Fan Girl by Antoinette Jadaone. The story revolves around Jane, an infatuated fan who finds a way to meet her celebrity crush, Paulo Avelino (as a fictional version of himself). In Fan Girl, Jane eventually realizes that his idol isn’t quite the perfect man she made him out to be when nobody’s watching. The film is a vicious wolf in sheep’s clothing, starting off as a pleasurable descent into the whims of an impressionable teenager before evolving into the dangerous expositions of blind idolatry.
