McCaffrey Announces Bi-partisan Deal with Bellone for Redistricting

“From the outset, I have said the residents of Suffolk County deserve a transparent redistricting process that follows the law and allows for ample opportunity for public comment. The agreement in place with the County Executive provides for just that. I am committed to working both within and outside the majority caucus to ensure its passage,” said Suffolk County Legislature’s Presiding Officer Kevin McCaffrey in a statement to The South Shore Press.

McCaffrey continues “previous Legislative majority illegally pursued a partisan map in haste with little public scrutiny which has already been deemed illegal by a Supreme Court Judge.

the redistricting process on February 1st, through this agreement I am committed to

establishing a fair redistricting process and legislative map that reflects regional demographic trends.”

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone sent the following statement to the South Shore Press: “I am pleased to announce an agreement with the Presiding Officer that guarantees an unprecedented four majority-minority legislative districts in Suffolk County through a transparent redistricting process that is legally sustainable. Given the importance of ensuring fair representation for communities of color and looming legal challenges to the proposed map in IR 1964, we cannot leave to chance anything short of ensured equitable representation, reflective of the County’s diversity, in our

legislative district map.

He went on to say, “In the days ahead, I will be working with my Legislative colleagues to approve this law and commence a fair redistricting process that provides for significant public input in preparation for the next County election cycle in November 2023.”

A special meeting of the county legislature has been called by McCaffrey on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 to address the new bipartisan redistricting efforts.

The plan that was adopted by last year’s democratic majority had little to no community input and combined numerous republican legislators into the same districts. A legal opinion issued last year by Bellone’s County Attorney said that the Democrats plan was illegal.

Albany a Mess with Bloated Budgets and Warped Priorities

State legislators are back in Albany for the 2022 session and the Assembly Republicans are focusing their efforts on reversing the crime wave, battling runaway government spending and inflation, and pulling the state out of the depression caused by the COVID crisis.

Law enforcement and public safety groups from Long Island have been travelling to the Capitol to rally for the repeal of the bail laws that have caused a crime wave across the state.

Images of people beaten on the streets, smash and grab robberies and the politicians turning their backs on rioters and looters have horrified a public that is demanding a repeal of the dangerous bail measures and a return to a more sensible rule of law.

That we had to suffer another shooting of police officers last Friday in Harlem is both unconscionable and tragic.

As our prayers go out to the families of these officers and the communities and neighbors devastated by this senseless act, we have to ask why there are people in our society who think it’s okay to possess illegal guns and blast away at the cops. The elimination of bail laws, district attorneys who won’t prosecute

crimes and politicians who turn their backs while rioters attack government buildings and torch cities, sends a message to people like this.

The tragic message the weakon-crime politicians are sending is that criminal behavior is acceptable. It is not, and until the laws are enforced the way they were written to protect the public, crime will continue to escalate into these heinous acts.

Defund the police and the procriminal stance of the political Left are reckless and dangerous.

Let’s refocus on public safety and protecting the law-abiding citizenry of our state before this gets even worse.

The bloated budget proposed

by Gov. Kathy Hochul should be no surprise to anyone who has lived in New York in the last decade. Her $216 billion plan would smash the record for state spending, taxes and fees if passed as it stands. As history has shown, that number could go even higher depending on the budget negotiations of a legislative Majority that has shown zero interest in fiscal prudence. Last year for example, the executive budget started at $196 billion, and by the time the Progressives in the Legislature were done, taxpayers were forced to write a $212 billion check.

“Inflation Relief & Consumer Assistance Plan,” a rescue package created by the Assembly Republicans that calls for a twoyear suspension of state sales tax on many everyday purchases New Yorkers rely upon such as gasoline, household products, to-go food orders and personalcare items. This is the relief the taxpayers need now, not the convoluted spending of Gov. Hochul and the Progressive Left.

Right out of the gate, the governor’s budget ignored the two percent spending cap the state has imposed on other levels of government to rein in excess spending and give the taxpayers a break. At a time of skyrocketing inflation and an economy that is punishing low and middle-class workers, the state breaking records for largess is not the recipe for recovery.

To put this spending spree

in perspective, consider that it’s more than twice the budget being considered in Florida, which has more residents than New York. Bottom line: Greedy politicians have turned New York into the “Vampire State” spending magnitudes more than states which, ironically, New Yorkers can’t wait to flee to. We need tax cuts to fight the worst inflation in four decades and crawl out of the hole caused by the COVID closures and mandates, not more government spending.

While the New York City politicians who control Albany continue to throw money at their special interests and lock down the rest of us, we are focusing on proper funding for the health care workforce, education and infrastructure. These are vital areas for improvement, especially since there are

significant sums of money from the federal government to really make an impact.

Putting health care workers on the unemployment line because they refused the untested vaccines was deplorable. Setting our children back by closing their schools and covering their faces with ineffective masks was even worse. And now they are the target of the jabs. We are being tracked and controlled by vaccine cards are mandates and the heavy hand of government is going to get worse. People across the state are marching against this tyranny and rightly so.

The fact remains, living in New York is getting more and more difficult. The business climate is toxic and the taxes and regulations are shocking.

Gov. Hochul’s budget does not address any of these issues. Our budget priorities in the areas of health care, education and infrastructure, in addition to the freeze on the state sales tax, will benefit New Yorkers dramatically more than the tax and spend plans of the Democrats.

The trajectory we are on is unsustainable and people are leaving in droves forcing the rest of us to pick up the tab. I, for one, won’t be giving up the fight.

The wave of change is heading our way and the Republicans are girded for the fight.

U.S. Diplomat Fondly Remembers Roots in William Floyd Community

Although she didn’t graduate from William Floyd, Alicia Arendt spent the first 10 years of her schooling here and still holds her childhood community close to her heart. She has had the opportunity to travel all around the world due to her job as a United States diplomat, working on behalf of the U.S. government serving overseas to advance the interests of the American people. She is proud to share her stories from back home about the schools and towns that she grew up in. Much of Alicia’s family still resides on Long Island and one of her goals is to inspire the current generation of William Floyd students.

Alicia attended Moriches Elementary School, Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School, William Paca Middle School and William Floyd High School, spanning from kindergarten through ninth grade. Her fondest

Suffolk County Clerk Judy Pascale swore-in recently elected 5th District Court Judge Jonathan Bloom.

Bloom, of Great River, was elected by the voters of Islip this past November. The term for a District Court Judge is six years.

Esther Takeuchi to Receive NAS Award in Chemical Sciences Esther S. Takeuchi, who holds a joint appointment at Department of Energy’s (DOE) Brookhaven National Laboratory and Stony Brook University, will receive the Award in Chemical Sciences from the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) in recognition of her breakthrough contributions to our understanding of electrochemical energy storage.

Established by the U.S. Congress in 1863, NAS is a private, non-profit organization of scientists with the mission to provide independent, objective advice to the nation on matters related to science and technology.

The award cites Takeuchi’s contributions “to the materials and mechanistic understanding relevant to electrochemical energy storage, using chemical insight to address issues of critical importance.” She will be honored in a ceremony during the NAS 159th annual meeting and will receive a medal and prize of $15,000 sponsored by the Merck Company Foundation.

“I am sincerely honored to receive the National Academy of Science

of Stony Brook University and national labs and universities throughout the nation through our Center for Mesoscale Transport Properties EFRC,” Takeuchi said. “Our collaborative efforts are designed to yield the needed understanding of electrochemical energy storage necessary for the successful deployment of future energy storage devices for usage in the U.S. and the world including the goal of energy equity among all peoples.”

Among her numerous and notable inventions is a compact lithium/silver vanadium oxide battery that increased the lifespan of implantable cardiac defibrillators, a solution that reduced the number of surgeries patients needed to undergo to replace the devices that detect and correct irregular, potentially fatal, heart rhythms.

Prior to her academic career, Takeuchi spent more than 20 years at Greatbatch, Inc., a company founded in 1970 by the co-inventor of the first implanted pacemaker.

Takeuchi was recently elected a member of the American

Academy of Arts and Sciences. She has also been inducted into the National Academy of Engineering and selected as a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. She was selected as the 2013 recipient of the E.V. Murphree Award in Industrial and Engineering Chemistry from the American Chemical Society.

She was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2011. In 2009, President Obama presented Takeuchi with the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, the highest honor possible for technological achievement in the United States.

Charlie Tramontana, K96 Charlie Tramontana worked for the department for 30 plus years, beginning in the 2nd precinct where he served many roles: a patrol officer, COPE officer and eventually a plain clothes officer in the Crime Control section before transferring to the Canine unit. He spent the last 19 years of his career in Canine. He and his K9 partner were specialty trained in narcotics detection. Suffolk County Health Commissoner Pigott Speaks On COVID-19

BY KARL GROSSMAN “Even though Omicron has peaked” in Suffolk County— the rate of COVID-positive in people tested here was 28.1% on January 3rd lowering to 13.95% on January 19th, said Suffolk Health Commissioner Gregson H. Pigott, “we are still not out of the woods.

We have to be very careful.”

He was speaking last week at a teleconference organized by Long Island Metro Business Action based in Ronkonkoma.

After two years of the COVID-19 pandemic and often confusing information, his presentation was remarkably clear. Indeed, Lisa Kerr, the moderator of the teleconference and vice president of Global Risk Management and Business Continuity for Henry Schein Risk Management, closed it by praising Dr. Pigott’s ability at communications.

Dr. Pigott of Greenlawn became Suffolk County’s top health official in February 2020.

A native of Valley Stream, he received his MD from Brown University Medical School and a Masters in Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health.

Previously, Dr. Pigott, the first Black physician to serve as Suffolk health commissioner, headed the

breathe. Omicron, he said, is “more an upper respiratory infection,” presenting as a sore throat and/or a mild cough. It moves and usually ends quickly.

Department of Health Services’ Office of Minority Health, and also was medical director of Emergency Medical Services for Suffolk. He is a professor of preventive medicine at Stony Brook University.

COVID deaths in Suffolk continue. In Suffolk in this month of January, there have been doubledigit fatalities daily from COVID. There were “24 [deaths] on January 19th,” said Dr. Pigott. Some 60% of those hospitalized from COVID in Suffolk in recent times have been “unvaccinated,” he said.

In the month he became health commissioner, we “heard something about a new virus in China.” The reaction nationally was to “monitor travel coming into the U.S. from China” and this, it was believed, would “keep the virus at bay.”

The following month, on March 8, 2020—from memory he cited specific date after date—he was informed by the New York State Health Department that “you have your first COVID case” in Suffolk.

The initial thought was that it involved someone from western Suffolk who might have traveled to Suffolk from New York City.

But the “person lived in Greenport, deep on the North Fork, not even close to the city.”

In the following days of March, COVID was appearing widely in Suffolk. The “first fatality” from COVID in Suffolk happened on March 16th at St. Catherine’s Hospital in Smithtown, said Dr. Pigott.

on the health care system.” The 11 hospitals in Suffolk “were overwhelmed.” By April 10th, he said, 1,658 were hospitalized with COVID in Suffolk.

As of last week, the death toll in Suffolk from COVID stood at 4,100.

“Contact tracing” was stressed, to have infected people “stay out of circulation” for a time “and not spread” the virus “to others.”

Then came the emergence and usage of vaccines, said Dr. Pigott.

And in the months thereafter in the U.S. “we started to see a significant reduction” of COVID.

By June 2021 “we thought we had

control of the situation.”

“But the virus seems to always outsmart us.”

The Delta variant emanating in India hit. Delta “peaked in September 2021” as the predominant form of COVID, he related. And it had a “winter surge” heightened by “people getting together indoors” for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

And then Omicron, first found in South Africa, came to Suffolk in the “last week of November” 2021.

Omicron, he said, is different from the earlier strains which “damaged lung tissue”—thus the need for ventilators to enable victims to

He predicted that ahead there will be another “twist in the plot” and this Fall “another formula” of a “tweaked vaccine.”

Getting “triple-vaccinated”— with two shots of either Pfizer and Moderna vaccines and a booster of either—is critical, he said. As to masks, he said cloth masks are “sieves” and don’t keep COVID particles out as is necessary. He recommended N-95 and KN-95 masks that prevent 95% of particles getting through, as their numbers signify.

The nightmare of the COVID pandemic goes on…and on. And, indeed, we all, as the doctor says, must be very careful.

With discussions between the players and owners seemingly going nowhere, there has been growing speculation around baseball insiders that this year’s season might be delayed, and we might even miss some games.

There was always a belief that both sides would come to their senses and make sure that baseball doesn’t get dealt another black eye, but with each passing day, and no one sitting down at the table the likelihood of games being missed is becoming more and more of a reality.

While we all want a full slate of 162 games, there may be no team in baseball

who would benefit more from a shorter season than the Yankees. While all eyes still are on Carlos Correa, Trevor Story and what potential moves might be made by Cashman and company, there is the hard fact that New York’s rotation will be limited.

The Yankees can count on Cole for innings, and superior production. He will be locked in as the ace of the staff and the pure #1.

As hard as we try to be a rock hard bed of consistency in our fantasy baseball life, it is absolutely true that there can be some dull notes at times and at others we can hit periods of sheer brilliance.

I’ve been playing in competitive fantasy baseball leagues since 1989, so I’ve been at this for over four decades now. And it is absolutely an important exercise to revisit the rough patches and study what we’ve missed and to assess where we may have missed or overlooked something we may have missed. Let’s look at some recent disappointments and see if we did go bust or if we are just being a little impatient.

The 2019 Minor League Player of the Year was Gavin Lux of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He went into the 2020 season with Wander Franco and Jo Adell outranking him on top prospect lists from the major publications. Yet from the very start, something didn’t quite ring correctly about his relationship with manager Dave Roberts. And when a young prospect hasn’t won over the heart of his major league manager things are off to a rocky start. A very similar start has

been the experience for Jo Adell with the Los Angeles Angels with Joe Maddon. Lux will start the 2022 season at age 24. There has been no long term damage to his long term development under Dave Roberts. But there are warning signs. In 473 at bats Lux has hit a career .233 with an on base percentage of .314. His 41 walks and 83 strikeouts do not signal any danger signs. But when you dig into his splits you see a glaring problem with his at bats vs. LHP’s. He is hitting .188 against lefties for his lifetime.

And Dave Roberts saw this from the start.

He also has a poor split in night games vs. day games. He hits .292 in day games vs, .218 in night games. So, what do we do if we’ve invested in Lux in a dynasty league? We need to pay close attention to quotes from Dave Roberts when spring training opens. LA has a lot of players who play in the middle infield and center field. Trea Turner is now a teammate even though Seager has left as a free agent.

injury history of his own to worry about. The rest of the rotation is made up of guys like Nestor Cortes, who didn’t pitch 100 innings, and minor league arms, who they won’t push into heavy innings.

The Yankees have some talented arms and they are planning on mixing and matching to find those innings this year. Usually that means taxing a bullpen and hoping for the best. Not the best strategy at all. I am not asking for a lockout, I am hoping against it, but I will say that if there are some missed games, this Yankees team, and the pitching staff specifically, will benefit from it.

with that approach and so Adell was sent back to the minor leagues in 2021. And he did get his strikeout down to just under 30%. It still needs improvement but you have to appreciate that Adell was sent down to work on that and make it a priority and that he succeeded. Jo also made some horrific mistakes on playing balls in the outfield, and he worked on improving his fielding. The silver lining there is that they have moved him to left field and in formats that specify the exact outfield position, there are frequently better RF than

Jesus Montero was drafted and developed by the NY Yankees but was traded to Seattle for a frontline starting pitcher in Michael Pineda. Dustin Ackley and Justin Smoak were the others. BY REV. FREDERICK MILLER. PH.D. A death in the family too often finds survivors ill-prepared to cope with the loss. Preparing for the passing of a loved one, or even oneself, can be a difficult and confusing time.

The following information should help you through those trying and difficult times, and show you what benefits are available and how to apply for them. The most important step is to prepare in advance. So let’s go through the steps needed.

Certain benefits are available to veterans and eligible survivors of deceased veterans who were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable. The Department of Defense (DOD) is responsible for providing military funeral honors. “Honoring Those Who Served” is the title of the DOD program for providing dignified military funeral honors to veterans who have defended our nation. Those honors include a flag to cover

the casket, a headstone, and a Presidential Memorial Certificate signed by the President. However, you may need to request what you want.

Unfortunately the caskets are not free for a deceased veteran, unless death occurs while on active duty.

Step 1.

You need documentation to verify military service. You need to have copies of your discharge form, DD-214 form. You should have at least two (2) copies to cover you and your spouse.

Give a copy of the form to the funeral home.

Step 2. For a U.S. flag to cover the veteran’s casket, or accompany the urn the family must request the flag. The form needed is the VA form 27-200B along with a copy of the DD214 form. The funeral home may be able to obtain the flag for you but may need the forms.

Provided through a program initiated in March 1962 by President John F. Kennedy, an engraved Presidential Memorial Certificate signed by the current President is provided to families to pay tribute to the memory of honorably discharged deceased veterans.

Waves Upon, and Within, Waves

Continuing our discussion about waves, we all know that anyone who has stood by the seashore and watched the waves roll in must have wondered at least once, “when is the next big one coming?” And, sure enough, just out in the offing, you can see one that just seems head and shoulders above the others.

This column is about that.

Traditions Die Hard at Sea

You’ve seen me make that observation before and it will always be true, by my reckoning.

One of those traditions is that waves come in sets of seven, meaning that every 7th wave will be like the prior wave that passed earlier. Another way to think of that is that, once a big one has crashed ashore, the next one is but seven waves behind.

Do the Math

Of course, that isn’t true – but it is sort of true, meaning that waves are part of a hydrodynamic system and there are statistical probabilities that do apply. One of the more quoted oceanographers in this regard is Walter Munk, who began the systemization of waves, weight heights and predictability (and measurement) of waves. He started his work during World War II and won international awards

and acclaim for his work in the field for decades after. Waves, or perhaps better said, “sets of waves”, are categorized by the “significant wave height” or Hsig. Hsig was intended to mathematically express the height estimated by a “trained observer”.

In oceanography, the Hsig is defined traditionally as the mean wave height (trough to crest) of the highest third of the waves. But once you do that, you start to tease out the statistics of waves of varying heights arriving – and if you are a mariner out upon God’s Great Sea, this can be of intense interest…

Now this can get pretty intense, mathematically, but if you focus on the message and not on the technology, you’ll get all the information you need. Generally, the statistical distribution of the individual wave heights is well approximated by a “Rayleigh Distribution.” For example, given that Hsig = 1 meter, or 3.3 feet, statistically: •

1 in 10 will be larger than 1.2 m (3.6 ft)

•

1 in 100 will be larger than 1.5 m (5.1 ft)

•

1 in 1000 will be larger than 1.9 m (6.2 ft)

This implies that one might encounter a wave that is roughly double the significant wave height.

And remember what Hsig is – an expression of the highest 1/3rd of the waves. This means that 2/3rd are less than that. Perhaps lulling the mariner into a false sense of security?

Converting that distribution into time at sea, where a wave passes your 25’ vessel every 6 seconds, the table would look like this:

•

1 every minute will be larger than 1.2 m (3.6 ft)

•

1 every 10 minutes will be larger than 1.5 m (5.1 ft)

•

1 in 100 minutes (1.7 hours) will be larger than 1.9 m (6.2 ft)

And this is when 2/3rd of the waves are less than ~3’… And, statistically, when two significant waves come into “phase”, it is possible to encounter a wave that is much larger than the significant

wave.

Groups of 7? No. But the big’uns are out there. “Both in safety and in doubt, always keep a good lookout.”

Have You Checked if You Have Unclaimed Funds in New York State?

I am the executor of my mother’s estate. How do I know if she has any unclaimed funds?

Did you know that banks, insurance companies, corporations and courts are required by law to report dormant accounts to the New York State Comptroller?

These organizations must attempt to notify you by mail and publish this information in newspapers. Nevertheless, many funds remain unclaimed and are turned over to the Office of the State Comptroller. New York State has approximately $17 billion in unclaimed money.

Each day New York State returns $1.5 million of unclaimed funds to those who file claims with the Office of the New York State Comptroller.

A guardian or executor of an estate--anyone acting as a fiduciary --should search for unclaimed funds. Such a fiduciary has a legal obligation to collect all assets and must make

reasonable efforts to search.

Some assets are easy to find real estate, retirement accounts listed on tax return, and bank accounts. Others, such as a lost life insurance policy or uncashed checks from the state, are elusive. New York’s unclaimed fund website makes this process

much easier and lawyers use the website regularly on behalf of clients.

If you are in the process of handling a loved one’s estate, you should search for potential unclaimed funds online using only a person’s name. If there is no court appointed estate

representative, the following individuals can also submit a claim on behalf of the owner: a surviving spouse, blood relative, and creditors (e.g., someone who paid the funeral expenses).

Proof needed depends on the claimant’s relationship to the deceased.

A claim for unclaimed funds can be submitted to the Office of the New York State Comptroller online or by mail. It is important to know that the Comptroller’s Office never charges a fee for returning unclaimed funds.

Beware that there are companies that search for unclaimed funds and contact the owner or estate representative to notify that such funds have been located.

These companies will charge a fee in exchange for assisting in recovering such unclaimed funds. There is never a need to pay a fee.

Sources of Angelic Knowledge

BY DOMINICK FORTE Much of the information available to us on angels comes from the writings of Thomas Aquinas, an Italian Dominican friar, philosopher, and Doctor of the Church. He was an immensely influential theologian, and jurist in the tradition of scholasticism.

Aquinas had a source for his knowledge of angels. He was versed in the writings of Dionysius the Areopagite.

Dionysius was a 1st century mystic, the first ordained Bishop of Athens, a judge at the Aeropagus Court in Athens, a convert to Christianity, and a follower and confidant of St. Paul.

Originally Paul was a persecutor of Christians.

As Saul of Tarsus before his conversion, he was out to destroy the early church. He would go from house to house and drag out followers of Christ and have them arrested.

On the road to Damascus from Jerusalem to persecute Christians there, a light from

the sky flashed around him.

He fell to the ground and heard the voice of Jesus. At this time the sky opened and he saw and understood the secrets of heaven.

Paul acquired a detailed knowledge of angels which he later shared with Dionysius.

Although the writings of Dionysius the Areopagite have been lost, they were available to Aquinas who studied them and formulated many of his theological thoughts and teachings from them.

Aquinas follows Dionysius’ Hierarchy of Angels in dividing them into three groupings: Angels of Contemplation, Angels of the Cosmos, and Angels of the Earth.

The Angels of Contemplation oversee the entire universe.

This group consists of the first three of the Choirs of Angels: the Seraphim, the Cherubim, and the Thrones. The Seraphim are closest to the throne of God and are in continuous adoration of Him. The prophet Isaiah

describes them as the “burning ones” and depicts them as having six wings, two covering their faces, two covering their feet, and two with which they hover.

The Cherubim are the guardians of light and stars.

Ezekiel describes them as having four faces: that of a

lion, that of an ox, that of an eagle, and that of a man. The Thrones serve as bearers of God’s throne.

Angels of the Cosmos maintain an orderly unification between the spiritual and corporeal realms. They are the Dominions, the Virtues, and the Powers. The Dominions are

By Barbara Guarino Kruk Hedwig Rutkowski lived a long and loving life. She was born in Poland in 1936 and came to the United States while she was still in her teens. She met and fell in love with her beloved husband Vincent, who died in 2009. Family meant everything to Hedwig. She was a devoted wife and mother to her children Vincent, Theresa, Cecilia and Cynthia. She was thrilled to become a grandmother to Jacqueline and Justine and also helped raise Michael and Michele. As her family grew, she welcomed into her heart her four great grandchildren Matthew, Emmanuel, Xander, and Kayden. She felt so blessed to have such a large extended family.

She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and making wonderful, handcrafted gifts for family and friends. She spent her free time playing Bingo scratch offs. But her greatest enjoyment was trips back to her homeland in Poland. While Hedwig loved being in America, she never lost her love and pride for her Polish Heritage.

Those trips were all the sweeter because she travelled with her two sisters Celina and Jane. It was truly a family affair.

Hedwig, a loving and caring, wife, mother, grandmother and sister, will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all the lives she touched. Honoring her devout faith, a Mass was held at St. Jude’s

On January 10th Hedwig was laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery once again to be reunited with her beloved Vincent.

HEDWIG RUTKOWSKI, 86, was born in Poland and moved to the United States while in her early teens. She was a hard-working woman and devoted spouse to her late husband Vincent who passed away in 2009. Surviving are her four loving children Vincent, Theresa, Cecilia, and Cynthia and was the beloved grandmother to Jacqueline and Justin. Hedwig also helped raise her two grandchildren Michael and Michele. She was the cherished great grandmother to Matthew, Emmanuel, Xander, and Kayden. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Hedwig was proud of her heritage and loved traveling back to her homeland of Poland with her sisters Celina and Jane.

Family and friends came to say their farewell at Roma Funeral Home in Shirley. Devoted to her faith, a Mass was offered at St. Jude’s RC Church in Mastic Beach on January 10th and interment followed at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Coram.
