Every visit to the Deschutes County Fair & Rodeo is a little different. Around every corner you’ll find something new to see, taste, experience, or explore.

Agriculture remains at the heart of the Fair.

Throughout the week, hundreds of 4-H, FFA, and Open Class exhibitors proudly showcase livestock, home arts, photography, gardening projects, baked goods, and countless other exhibits that reflect the talents and traditions of Central Oregon. The Junior Livestock Auction continues to be one of the Fair’s most anticipated events, highlighting the hard work and dedication of local youth.

Families will find entertainment across the grounds, including the State Farm Off Axis Stunt Show, JD Platt’s K9 Kings, petting zoo attractions, pony rides, educational exhibits, and performances on the Center Circle Stage, Family Fun Stage, and North Stage. New for 2026, the Fair will host a special Sensory Day on Thursday, allowing children with sensory sensitivities to enjoy carnival rides without music or flashing lights before the Fair opens. Local musicians, performers, and community groups help create a uniquely Central Oregon experience throughout the week.

The Fair is also a destination for shopping and discovery. Commercial vendors from across the region offer handcrafted goods, western wear, home improvement products, specialty foods, and unique gifts.

Of course, no trip to the Fair would be complete without enjoying the food. From corn dogs, barbecue, and burgers to elephant ears, ice cream, and fresh-squeezed lemonade, the Fair offers classic favorites alongside exciting new treats. Visitors can also enjoy specialty beverages, including wine, beer, cocktails, and frozen refreshments throughout the grounds.

These five special days in the heart of summer mark a time when people of all ages come together to reflect on our county’s rich agricultural heritage while celebrating the vibrant, modern way of life we enjoy here in Deschutes County. At its core, a fair brings together our agricultural and livestock traditions with contemporary entertainment, creating a full day of fun and memorable experiences across the Fairgrounds. As you explore the barns, I hope you take time to recognize our youth’s dedication to agriculture and meet some of our outstanding local 4-H and FFA participants.

Beyond agriculture and livestock, this year’s Fair continues the tradition of being one of the premier fairs in the state. Leading the excitement of our five-day event is the annual NPRA Rodeo. We are also proud to feature five nights of outstanding national recording artists on the Main Stage, with Sara Evans, Tyler Hubbard, Ja Rule, Clay Walker, and Banda Carnaval headlining this year’s concert series. In between, you will find entertainment

I am new to Deschutes County and Central Oregon, though not new to the Pacific Northwest. Growing up in Spokane, Washington, I attended the Spokane Interstate Fair each year with my family and close friends. While the carnival was my main attraction as a child, I came to appreciate that the fair offered much more. What I have learned through nearly three decades in the events and entertainment industry is that fairs, festivals, and community events serve an important purpose: they bring people together. The power of celebration and shared connection is what drives great events and continues to move this Fair forward.

I am honored and excited to welcome everyone to the Fairgrounds as we celebrate together.

From military veterans who have defended our freedoms to first responders who answer the call during emergencies, their commitment, sacrifice, and courage deserve our deepest appreciation.

As part of this year’s festivities, we invite fairgoers to join us for our Opening Ceremony at 6:00 p.m. on the Main Stage. This special event will honor veterans, active-duty military personnel, law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and other first responders whose service helps keep our nation and communities strong. The ceremony serves as an opportunity for our fair community to come together in gratitude and recognize these everyday heroes.

Rita Couture has spent nearly four decades at the heart of the fair, helping shape the experiences that thousands of families now call their favorite summer tradition.

She first joined as a volunteer, later working alongside Chris McMullen at the old fairgrounds under leaders like Mike Shiel. From there, she became a steady leader in entertainment, organizing ushers and volunteers while helping oversee concerts and crowds night after night.

She also served as Deschutes County Fair Association Treasurer, known for her strong accountability and attention to detail.

Rita led by example, stepping in wherever she was needed and helping build a team that extended beyond the fair into the community.

She had a way of bringing structure to chaos while keeping people motivated and moving forward. Together, they planned parade floats, sponsorships, and events, often building floats by hand with chicken wire and tissue paper for rodeo parades and downtown celebrations.

She helped guide the fair through its transition from the old downtown grounds to today’s modern facility, bringing structure, safety, and professionalism to operations that once relied heavily on volunteers managing everything from gates to crowd control. Her steady presence helped create many of the systems and expectations still in place today.

Outside the fair, Rita’s life has been rooted in ranching and family in Eastern Oregon, where she and her family raised cattle, baled hay, and built strong values through hard work and community.

Now named Grand Marshal, Rita Couture represents a lasting connection between the fair’s past and present, tying together the rodeo, the ranching community, and generations of 4-H families. It’s fitting that Shannon, once the high school student building parade floats alongside Rita, is now helping lead the fair and honoring the woman who helped shape so much of it.

Local knowledge, pride, and a willingness to step in wherever needed. Whether it is helping a lost family find their way, calming a nervous exhibitor, or jumping in to fix an unexpected issue, volunteers are the steady presence that keeps everything running.

In many ways, they are the first impression of the Fair and the lasting memory people take home. A friendly face at the gate. A helpful answer at the right moment. A simple act that turns a good day into a great one.

By the time the gates close and the lights go down, they are still there. Cleaning up, resetting, and getting ready to do it all again the next day.

It is not glamorous work. It is meaningful work.

It is what makes the Fair feel like home.

And without it, the Fair simply would not be the same.

For Redmond 4-H member Teal Hinton, raising a steer is about more than preparing for the Deschutes County Fair and Rodeo. It is about patience, responsibility, and building a connection with the animals she cares for every day.

This summer marks Teal’s third year raising a steer.

Last year, her hard work paid off when her steer sold for $12,080 at the Junior Livestock Auction, her highest sale to date.

Getting a steer ready for fair takes months of dedication. Teal starts by building trust and halter breaking, then carefully introduces feed while monitoring the animal’s health. She spends time every other day brushing, working with, and even talking to her steers.

“They are like big dogs,” Teal said.

This year, she is raising two steers after learning a tough lesson her first year when an injury kept her from showing.

“My goal this year is just to make it to fair,” she said.

Teal’s parents, Lauren and Chad Hinton, longtime Redmond residents, say 4-H has taught her responsibility and discipline well beyond her years.

“The responsibility has been incredible,” Lauren said. “She is up early feeding, taking care of her animals every day, and staying consistent no matter the weather.”

in barrel racing. If her steer performs well this season, she may even enter additional competitions before the fair.

For Teal, the experience goes far beyond the auction ring. She plans to save her earnings for a car or college and continues to grow through the lessons 4-H provides.

With dedication, patience, and a love for animals, Teal represents the hardworking spirit that makes the Deschutes County Fair and Rodeo a special tradition each summer.

The 2026 Wilco Deschutes County Fair & Rodeo presented by Indian Head Casino is packed with excitement far beyond the rodeo arena and concert stage. For more than 100 years, the Deschutes County Fair & Rodeo has been a summer tradition where generations of Central Oregon families come together to celebrate agriculture, community, and hometown pride.

The first Deschutes County Fair & Rodeo was held in 1919 on the original fairgrounds located at Highland Avenue and Canal Boulevard in Redmond, where the Fred Meyer shopping center stands today. In those early years, the Fair was often known as the “Potato Show,” reflecting the region’s strong agricultural roots and Central Oregon’s role as a major potato-producing area.

Farmers, ranchers, and families gathered to exhibit livestock, showcase crops, and celebrate the growing communities of Central Oregon. The Fair served as both a competition and a social gathering, bringing neighbors together long before modern entertainment became part of the event.

Over the decades, the Fair evolved alongside the region. Carnivals arrived, rodeo became a centerpiece attraction, and vendors, exhibits, and entertainment expanded. Attendance grew from local gatherings to crowds that now exceed 125,000 visitors each year.

In 1999, the Deschutes County Fair & Rodeo entered a new era with the opening of the current Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center.

Today, the Deschutes County Fair & Rodeo is the largest annual event in Central Oregon, featuring nationally recognized entertainment, championship rodeo action, livestock competitions, exhibits, food vendors, and family attractions while continuing a tradition that began more than a century ago.

Although much has changed since the days of the Potato Show, the spirit of the Deschutes County Fair & Rodeo remains remarkably familiar. It’s still a place where families gather, friends reconnect, and generations come together to celebrate the best of Central Oregon.

There is nothing quite like the sound of crunching metal, revving engines, and a crowd on its feet.

That is exactly why demolition derby has become one of the most anticipated events at fairs across the country.

Demolition derby dates back to the 1950s, with many tracing its origins to county fairs in states like California and New York. What started as a simple idea, drivers crashing cars until only one could still move, quickly became a crowd favorite. It is raw, unpredictable, and impossible to look away from.

Over the decades, demolition derby has become a staple of American fair culture, combining motorsports, strategy, and pure adrenaline.

Now in its third year, the demolition derby continues to grow in both size and excitement inside the Pro Caliber Arena. Fans can catch all the action this

Toyota of Bend will be launching free T-shirts into the crowd, while Retro Rides in Bend has created custom CNC-cut trophies finished with a gold powder coating by Commercial Powder Coating.

Behind the scenes, LFR Promotions runs the event while Peterson CAT in Redmond has provided the equipment needed to build and maintain the arena, and Pape Bend is supplying the water truck to keep conditions dialed. All Seasons Towing & Recovery is also stepping in with derby cars for a special bragging rights heat featuring the Redmond Police Department, Redmond Fire and Rescue, and the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.

Expect some serious hometown competition in that one.

Safety remains a top priority, with first responder helmets and neck braces supplied by Fly Racing.

Vehicles are stripped down for competition, with glass and plastic removed and doors and hoods securely chained.
