HDFFA THANKS THE FOLLOWING 2024 SPONSORS FOR THEIR GENEROUS SUPPORT! PLATINUM
Welcome...
Welcome to our 2024 High Desert Food and Farm Directory— our 13th Annual Edition!
Through this directory, we want to provide a comprehensive resource to residents and visitors to Central Oregon alike. It’s filled with inspiration on where you can find the freshest, locally produced fruits, vegetables, and meat…as well as the restaurants who locally source these products.
We couldn’t produce this directory without the support of our sponsors. Please take the time to learn about the extraordinary organizations who make this publication possible.
Thank you for using this directory as a resource and for your commitment to Central Oregon’s food and farm network. Let us know what you think and if you have any questions: info@hdffa.org.

HDFFA’S Impac
FRESH HARVEST KITS
Fresh Harvest Kits are ready-to-make meal kits consisting of a recipe (in both Spanish and English) and all of the ingredients needed to cook a meal for four: fresh produce, pantry staples, and a spice packet from Savory Spice. Our Fresh Harvest Kit program grew by more than 50% in 2023, thanks to HDFFA’s partners. More than 3,200 Fresh Harvest Kits were distributed with seven different partners from La Pine to Warm Springs. We also saw a successful pilot partnership with Council on Aging to distribute Fresh Harvest Kits through their Meals on Wheels program for seniors in Sisters. We are excited to partner with the Madras Community Food Pantry to distribute Fresh Harvest Kits in Madras for the first time in 2024. In 2023, Fresh Harvest Kits provided more than 13,000 meals for Central Oregonians experiencing food insecurity.
GROW & GIVE
HDFFA’s Grow & Give program collects fresh, nutritious produce that might otherwise be wasted. The program relies on our relationships with local farmers, the NeighborImpact regional food bank, and our dedicated volunteers. Some of HDFFA’s partner farms grow produce specifically for this program, prioritizing the produce that food pantry clients prefer or cannot often otherwise access. Volunteers become members of our Glean Teams to pick leftover harvests from their fields. HDFFA also tables at Farmers Markets throughout the season to collect produce not sold from our partner farms. In 2023, Grow & Give collected a record 51,475 pounds of produce from farm gleans, farmers markets, and community gardens to deliver to NeighborImpact…which equates to more than 42,000 meals for our neighbors who need access to good, healthy food.
VEGGIERX
VeggieRx, HDFFA’s fresh food prescription program, provides fresh produce to patients with diet-modifiable medical conditions. This year, HDFFA launched its first ever winter pilot program in collaboration with Central Oregon Locavore, in direct response to community need. Patients who enroll in VeggieRx report significant health improvements. One 2023 participant shared, “I finally feel like I have enough veggies! I have more energy and less inflammation. And less blood sugar flare ups too.”
SHUWIYASHA FOOD SOVEREIGNTY PROJECT
The tribal-led Shuwiyasha Food Sovereignty project focuses on breaking down internalized colonization within the food system. The goal is to reduce health inequities, increase knowledge around food systems and food sovereignty, increase access to fresh foods, and lay a foundation for future local food production. This is a joint project with the Warm Springs Community Action Team (WSCAT). In partnership with HDFFA, WSCAT staff designed and printed a children’s book called Ashwan’s Garden that shares the story of a child’s connection to their culture and food sovereignty. 300 copies were distributed within the community. Thermo Fisher and HDFFA volunteers constructed a new greenhouse in the Warm Springs Children’s Learning Garden to extend the growing season and associated learning opportunities for children and families. In addition, HDFFA offers both the Fresh Harvest Kit and VeggieRx programs in Warm Springs.
IN THE CENTRAL OREGON COMMUNITY
We believe everyone deserves good food. Our programs reached 65,900 Central Oregonians in 2023! With your support, our reach will extend even further in 2024 and beyond!
AGRICULTURAL SUPPORT
HDFFA’s Agricultural Support program improves the success rate of our farm and ranch partners through education, funding, marketing, and relationship building. We help beginning and established producers to improve business and technical skills while also building public awareness of them and their products. We foster relationships throughout the local food system and help producers to secure funding through a variety of channels.
HDFFA is invested in increasing the ability of Central Oregon farmers and ranchers to overcome shocks and strains on their operations by providing financial support for on-farm infrastructure, supplies, and professional development. Each year, depending on funding availability, we offer producers the opportunity to apply for
On-Farm Efficiency Grants (OFEG) for up to $3,000 in grant funds with a 50 percent match. Since 2022, nearly $100,000 has been disseminated to local businesses through this competitive grant program. In 2024 HDFFA will award eleven farms and ranches in Central Oregon $25,917 by the completion of the program to implement innovative solutions that promote greater efficiencies in time, water usage, crop yield, and more. The recipient farms range in size from just a couple of acres to upwards of 200 acres, each feeding our community. Investing in local producers encourages more efficient farming practices and a more resilient food economy here in Central Oregon.

Central Oregon Veterans Ranch helps veterans develop their inner strength and find purpose by providing camaraderie and access to nature on our working ranch.
School of Ranch is a Central Oregon nonprofit that hires skilled community members to teach practical and artisan skills. Our mission is to educate, keep traditional skills alive, create paying gigs, and provide common ground for people regardless of politics, background, age or beliefs.
