A closer look at the facilities for the community at Abu Dhabi Libraries: Zayed Central Library (Part 1)

Zayed Central Library (ZCL), Al Ain’s very own public library branch of MAKTABA, is located next to Al Sulaimi Park. This library caters to children and adults and has a collection of over 120,000 printed books in Arabic, English and other languages, as well as electronic resources available on the Digital Library: (https://library.dctabudhabi.ae). In addition to these reading and audiovisual materials, all the facilities available at ZCL make it an ideal place for education, empowerment and enrichment for the whole family. Some of these facilities include study spaces, free access to the internet and computer use, facilities for group events, an outdoor play area for children and much more! This month’s issue will focus on the facilities available for adults.

General Reading Area

Young Adults Section This newly established section for young adults is set up in one area of the general library with young adults from 12 – 18 years of age in mind. In this section, teens can find book titles and authors that appeal to their interests.

Computers for general use

In addition to free wi-fi access service throughout the library, they also offer a number of personal computers (PCs) for general use.

Study Spaces

There are three types of study spaces available in the general area. Here, you can find ten self-study pods for students who want to study independently in a space where they will not be interrupted; there are five group study rooms for students who want to have small discussions and work together on group projects. There is no prior booking requirement, you can request to use these rooms based on availability on the day. In addition to the private study rooms, there are also many individual study desks throughout the general library floor for use.

Creativity Room and Seminar Room

ZCL provides the use of its seminar room and creativity room facilities to businesses, organizations and individuals for educational, team building and recreational purposes. The creativity room is a vibrant welcoming environment where everyone can engage, explore and enjoy. The seminar room is equipped with audio-visual equipment that is ideal for presentations and talks. Each room has the capacity to hold around 25 people. Auditorium

This magnificent auditorium has the capacity to accommodate over 800 people. This facility is ideal for graduations, performances, corporate events and movie nights. Use of the auditorium requires prior approval, booking needs to be done at least 30 days in advance. There is a rental fee associated with the use of this venue.

TXT Cafe

TXT cafe is located on the Zayed Central Library campus, next to the auditorium. This local coffee shop is a relaxing place to enjoy a coffee on your own or with friends. The café provides a great setting to socialize after a seminar or an event in the auditorium.
