Araña, Orola win spot at ’22 search for TOSIA

By Mdpn. Franklin Kyles M. Matricular & Mdpwn. Alexandra May T. Tarroja

As TOSIA marked its 13th year, the John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime Foundation University- Molo (JBLFMU-M) also achieved 13 consecutive years of recognition as Mdpn. Roen Araña of Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSME) and Mdpwn. Monela Orola of Bachelor of Science in Cruise Ship Management (BSCSM) brought pride to the university as they were awarded as two of the most outstanding students of Iloilo at Robinsons Main Iloilo, July 10. All nominees coming from different universities and colleges in the city and province of Iloilo had undergone an online essay writing which was conducted in partneship with Eon Centennial Plaza Hotel, then the top 33 nominees were challenged to an interview round at Courtyard by Marriott Hotel Iloilo, wherein the 22 finalists for the TOSIA 2022 were determined. “Even before TOSIA, I believe that serving my community is really my calling. As your last year’s SSG President, we are able to extend help in our community through Bulig Lacsonian, Coastal Clean Up Drive and many others. But I believe that because of TOSIA, I was able to extend and give service to others most especially during our outreach activity in the far-flung areas of Cabatuan. We are able to provide food, educate their children, and help in the livelihoods of the indigenous community of Sitio Balic. As a servant leader, it is my duty to extend and give light to other people,” Mdpn. Roen Araña, one of the TOSIA awardees said. The awardees also encountered various activities such as Boot Camp and Servant Leadership Formation, multimedia guesting, a campaign to raise funds for their Haksa Project, and outreach activities wherein they passed the bid book containing the citations and achievements in academic fields, leadership excellence, community involvement, and faith. The most unforgettable for me aside from community outreach involvement to the aeta community is implementing advocacies. Advocacies that give impact to society. It is a movement of giving the community an eye opener of what situations the world is facing and how to make those situations radiate into a positive change for a brighter future ahead. It was unforgettable for me since empowerment was my advocacy and it was unique and different among my batches. That made me understand the statement “Babae ka, hindi ka babae lang,” Mdwpn. Monela Orola, one of the TOSIA awardees said. The Outstanding Students of Iloilo Awards is an annual Youth Development Program of JCI Regatta that gives due honor and credit to Ilonggo students who excel in the aforementioned fields.

“JBLFMU-M has been consistent in taking part in the Seal of Excellence and it is just an attestation that indeed Maritime Vanguard are frontliners of excellence,“ Mr. Raymund Benedick Brillantes, TOSIA nominations In-charge emphasized.
