WORDS WE LOVE I love working with my mom. It took me a little while to catch on to how amazing her business is, but I've learned so much the past couple of years I was clearly not paying attention to - all my life. (Oh mom, how patient you were during those awkward years!) Our joke is: I do the leg work and she focuses on the design work. Good thing I have long legs! Bottom line, we work very well together and laugh a lot! Makes me so proud when clients or customers come in the shop and say "Wow! What a great idea!" or "Wow! Just WOW!" I always think, yes, that's my mom! She's a creative genius, and I'll always love my mama! The traveling is a perk too :) Just a few weeks ago, we were both in the studio cleaning up and reorganizing textiles getting ready for our first "Zoom" meeting. I loved digging through years and years of textile collections from flea markets all over Europe, it felt like we were at the flea market in France. It was a bonding moment. She was thrilled I was getting so excited over the "digging" part, “organizing,” and getting into the design process. Now more than ever, I understand it's more than fancy pillows. They are truly handcrafted works of art. It's regal recycling! I'm so glad to help keep this business GOING and GROWING! It's a truly amazing job she's done in taking these century old textiles, a craftsmanship and quality that you just don't see anymore, and creating something beautiful! WORDS WE LOVE What can be said about my Mom other than she is my hero. She always encouraged me to do what made me happy, and no dream was ever too big. Looking back I’m always reminded of how hard she worked as a single mom, working a full time job, but always making sure we never felt it. She knew she was raising a gay son in the heart of Mississippi, and it only made her push me harder to become exactly who it was I wanted to be regardless of how hard it was at the time.
