Hailed as the “voice of protest” by Time magazine, “one of the most beloved musicians on the continent” by Rolling Stone, and described by the Guardian as “arguably the most important figure in world music,” Senegal’s biggest star, Youssou N’Dour, possesses the golden voice of Africa, defining the essence of West African groove with his compelling songs, soaring vocals, and spectacular performances with his Senegalese superband.

Two women of Portuguese roots bring us an evening of new-generation traditional music. In the footsteps of Cesária Évora, Cape Verdean singer-songwriter Sara Tavares “trades in understatement. She strokes rather than strums guitar chords … and her soft close-to-the-mike voice specialises in gentle yearning.” (The Independent ) Following the path of Amália Rodrigues, Carminho is one of the most talented and innovative fado singers of her generation, performing traditional and contemporary fado, as well as jazz, Brazilian pop, and Portuguese folk music.
