Education Reimbursement Program Did you know that we offer an education reimbursement program for our employees? The purpose of the program is to encourage eligible employees to participate in education programs which further their skills and knowledge for use in their current position or for use in future positions with more responsibilities. Here are some of the details: The employee must be a regular full-time employee that has completed one year of service as of the date the course begins. The employee must be actively working for the County as of the date the course is completed. The course schedule and study time must not be in conflict with the employee's work schedule. The employee must take the course at an accredited technical institute, college or university. The employee shall be entitled to tuition reimbursement if he/she has complied with this policy according to the following schedule: Employee receives an "A" = 100% reimbursed Employee receives a "B" = 90% reimbursed Employee receives a "C" = 80% reimbursed Employee receives a "D" or below = 0% reimbursed Books, supplies and other fees or charges will not be reimbursed. For employees taking graduate level courses, the course for which reimbursement is sought must be one leading to a graduate degree in a course of study in which the employee is enrolled. Employees who voluntarily separate service from the County or are dismissed for just cause, within twelve (12) months after receiving a reimbursement under the Education Reimbursement Program, shall repay the County for all such tuition reimbursements. Amounts paid for tuition reimbursement are limited to $5250 per calendar year, and this amount is not included in the employee's income or subject to federal income tax withholding. Interested employees must complete the application for approval found here. Please submit completed application PRIOR to enrollment in the course. The employee's supervisor, Department Head, or Division Director must approve and sign the form before it is directed to Human Resources for final approval. Congratulations to Zane Laidig, son of Tina Dickenson (Tax Commissioners Office) and step-son of CJ Dickenson (Tax Assessors Office). Zane completed 15 weeks of training at SLTC (Southeast Lineman Training Center) in Trenton, GA, graduating on April 20th. Wishing him much luck in his pursuit of becoming a successful lineman!

Hands-on Defensive Driving at the CCSO Track Friday, September 8, 2023 Don’t miss the opportunity to sign up for Hands-On Defensive Driving! Ask our Safety Officers about the track! They were able to do a site visit at one of their meetings, but it doesn’t compare to the hands-on experience! Register for the class before it fills up to see what the excitement is all about! You can have fun while training and earn a certificate for a discount on your insurance! Spaces are limited to 15 per class and there will only be one more opportunity before the end of the year!

This is Why You Need Safety Training We all hope we will never have to perform CPR. You may think that the emergency responders are trained to perform CPR and in utilizing an AED. But, when the moment comes, and it happens to be someone you care about such as a loved one, friend, or coworker, you want to make every effort to give them a chance until emergency responders arrive. Some of you may already know, but this happened recently with one of our very own team of coworkers! Knowing their coworker that they spend every day of the week with and have come to care about just did not seem like himself that morning, the team checked on him periodically even after he kept telling them he was okay. In the moment we all hope never comes, our Roads and Bridges team jumped into action once they realized they were their coworker’s only chance for a future, the chance that he may not have had otherwise! Colton Tribble found a fellow coworker unconscious in the front seat of his vehicle and immediately got his other team members to assist him. Cody Moore and Jim Crowell got him out of the truck, while Colton called 911. Jim and Nick Baker jumped into action with a readily available AED, and with no pulse detected, administered shock. Meanwhile, Fire Rescue from Station 12 jumped into action as soon as they received the call arriving right after shock was administered and began CPR compressions. He was transported to the hospital and accompanied by his managers, Larry McClure and Tim Holloway. Without going into too much detail, we are happy to report he is doing much better and will soon be reunited with his Roads and Bridges team! With the assistance of Lisa Martin for the details of the incident and permission from the thankful coworker and his managers, we wanted to take the time to recognize the employees previously mentioned for assisting in saving the life of one of our very own! Things could have turned out very differently without the quick actions of these individuals, and we are blessed to still have the presence of the grateful coworker in our lives!
