Employee Recruiting Referral Procedure
Earn 1 Day of PTO per successful referral!
As a reminder, BOC employees can earn 8 hours of PTO for each new hire that they refer. The guidelines are listed below: New hires will document on their employment application if they were referred for their position by listing the referring county employee’s name. If a name is not listed on the application, new hires cannot go back later and add a name once new hire paperwork has begun. New hires can only list one current county employee as a referral on their application. Human Resources will keep track of all new hire referrals and the date the current county employee is eligible for the 8 hours of PTO. HR will contact the current county employee to make them aware that their referral is being tracked from the hire date. Current county employees working/representing their department at a recruiting/job fair are not eligible for referrals from these events. Current employees at the Division Director level and above are not eligible for the recruiting referral PTO. Upon the new hire’s successful completion of one year of service, the referring county employee will receive notification from Human Resources that he/she is being given an additional 8 hours of PTO. The referring employee's supervisor will be copied in on the notification. Human Resources will keep up with leave accrual. The 8 hours of PTO will be treated as regular PTO in regards to how it can be scheduled as detailed in the Comprehensive Policy Manual-237.1. The 8 hours of PTO will be included in the annual leave total for catastrophic leave purposes as detailed in the Comprehensive Policy Manual-236.1. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office has their own Recruiting Incentive Program for positions within that office, so this new incentive does not interfere with that established practice. Their Recruitment Practices and Procedures remain the same. However, if an employee of the CCSO refers a new employee to a position outside of those areas, he/she can earn 8 hours of PTO. For example, if a Deputy refers a new hire for a job in Leisure Services, Roads and Bridges, etc., that Deputy could earn 8 hours of PTO. Regardless of department, the current county employee can only earn 8 hours of PTO for a new referral. Fire Rescue and CCSO work extended hour shifts, but they are limited to earning 8 hours of PTO. Only referrals for full-time positions earn the 8 hours of PTO. This does not apply to part-time positions. If you have any questions, please call HR and we will be glad to answer them.
