Welcome to our September issue of Splash!

We’ve got an exciting couple of months ahead, with a packed calendar of events, inspiring stories and lots of updates on how your support is making a difference across the Trust.

We’ve got a busy September and October which sees the end of our Dementia Appeal (at the end of this month), a brand new appeal we will be launching, and lots of exciting events including our Business Breakfast Networking Event, Golf Day, Psychic Medium Night, Autumn Memory Walk and more.

In this issue you can read about our upcoming projects and events, plus meet the NHS staff who have gone above and beyond for the charity. We will also be sharing some of the brilliant projects the charity has funded over the Summer. Also, meet Ellie, our new Supporter Care and Admin Assistant.

The power of incredible care

“We were completely blown that we received.”

When families go through some of the most difficult moments of their lives, the care and compassion of NHS staff can stay with them forever.

found out that our precious Halle’s heart had stopped. Our whole world came crashing down.”

For Cody and her partner Dean from West-Melton, the kindness they received from the maternity team at Rotherham Hospital following the heartbreaking loss of their baby daughter has inspired them to give back, helping make a difference for other families who may one day find themselves facing their own difficult journey.

The couple were overjoyed to discover they were expecting twins following five years of fertility struggles. But at 34 weeks pregnant, during what should have been a routine scan, they received devastating news; one of their daughters’ hearts had stopped beating.

In the days that followed, Cody and Dean were cared for by the Labour Ward and spent time in the Snowdrop End-of-life Suite.

The suite, which is fully funded by the charity, gives families facing the loss of a baby a private, self-contained space where they can spend precious time together, create memories and begin to grieve.

“We stayed in the suite for one week before I gave birth and for one week after the twins were born, and it was an absolute lifeline. We were completely blown away by the care we received, particularly from the staff on the Labour Ward. Everyone we encountered, from the clinical

teams to the domestic staff, understood what we were going through and treated us with such kindness, compassion and respect.”

“Those moments together in the suite are memories that we will treasure forever.”

Among those who made a lasting impression were midwives Natalie and Rachel.

It is this extraordinary care that has inspired Cody and Dean to give something back.

This October, the family will take part in our Autumn Memory Walk in memory of Halle. They have already raised £1,935 to support the charity helping ensure other families can access the same compassionate space and support when they need it most.

“We are eternally grateful to the maternity team, and especially Rachel and Natalie, who went above and beyond for our family.

Cody says the pair went above and beyond to make sure the family were supported, from coming in early so they could be there for her caesarean section, to helping to create precious moments with their daughters.

“Whether it was coming in early to make sure they could be there for my caesarean section or helping ensure the girls could spend precious time together, their compassion meant everything to us,” she said.

“Raising this money, walking in memory of her and keeping her memory alive means so much to us.” said Cody.

For the family, their fundraising is a way of saying thank you for care that they will never forget. Thanks to the compassion and dedication of staff like Natalie, Rachel and the Maternity Team, their family’s experience is now helping to create something positive for others in our community.

Take a look at some of the projects the charity has funded recently...

Inflatable fun and games at the Children in Care Summer Event We’re delighted to have supported Rotherham’s Children in Care Summer Event for the fourth year running.

Held in the grounds of Wentworth Woodhouse, the day was filled with smiles, laughter and fun. Our funding helped provide giant obstacle courses and inflatable slides, which proved a big hit with the children.

Events like this help children in care create happy memories, feel celebrated and, most importantly, know they are special.

Non-medical dopplers The charity has funded 12 specialist non-medical dopplers for the Palliative Care Team, helping families create a precious and lasting memory during an incredibly difficult time.

The dopplers can be used to capture and record the heartbeat of a patient nearing the end of their life. For families, being able to hear and keep this recording can provide a deeply personal connection to their loved one - a treasured memory they can return to long after they have said goodbye.

This is a wonderful example of how charitable support can enhance compassionate, personalised care and make a meaningful difference to patients and their families.

We have introduced an updated process for managing departmental charitable funding requests. Departments will now submit funding requests during quarterly windows.

The current application window is open until 30 September. All applications will be reviewed between 7 October and 21 October 7.

The lovely Louise Parry will be holding a Cake and Craft Stall in the hospital entrance on 21 September, and 22 September at Rotherham Community Health Centre - both events raising money for our Dementia Appeal.

meet Ellie Snowball The charity’s new Supporter Care and Admin Assistant

We’re so pleased to welcome Ellie to the charity team! Ellie joins the charity at a very busy time as our new Supporter Care and Admin Assistant.

Ellie will be helping us to look after our wonderful supporters, ensuring they feel valued and connected to the work of the charity. Her role will include responding to supporter enquiries, thanking donors and fundraisers, maintaining our supporter records, processing donations and providing administrative support to the wider fundraising team.

She’ll also be helping with fundraising activities and events. We’re really pleased to have Ellie on board and look forward to seeing the difference she’ll make!

Something exciting is coming...

A brand-new chapter is beginning for haematology care across Rotherham and Barnsley - and here at the charity, we’re getting ready to play our part.

From September 2026, Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity will be launching a brand-new fundraising appeal to support the hospital’s new combined haematology unit.

The new combined unit brings together care for patients from both Rotherham and Barnsley, creating a dedicated space for people living with blood cancer and blood-related disorders.

With the incredible support of our local community, we’re hoping to raise funds to fund equipment, facilities, furniture and some thoughtful extras that will make a real difference to patients, families and staff.

We can’t reveal everything just yet… but watch this space. There’s something special coming soon, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
