The sun is shining, and here at the charity we’re already in full swing with our Summer of Fundraisingwe absolutely love these bright, beautiful months.
There’s so much happening, from fantastic events to inspiring fundraising campaigns and exciting local partnerships.
This issue is bursting with charity news, stories and upcoming activities, including our involvement in the wonderful Breathing Space Chelsea Flower Show garden, the Proud Awards, and plenty more events on the horizon.

The charity is proud to support the Asthma + Lung UK Breathing Space Garden project
Here at the charity, we are absolutely thrilled to have supported the Asthma + Lung UK Breathing Space garden project. The charity has supported in a number of impactful ways:
Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity secured a £25,000 grant from NHS Charities Together to fund resources for the garden. The charity also secured a £30,000 grant from E.on, funding the relocation from Chelsea Flower Show, facilities on site and ongoing development. As well as grants, the charity has secured over £29,000 worth of specialist transport, plants, equipment, labour and logistical assistance to safely relocate the garden through local business Plant-Fit. Plus, the charity has collaborated with local businesses and colleges to organise corporate volunteering days on-site, allowing teams to plant the garden here in Rotherham.
The charity is also thrilled to have secured £500 worth of BBQ food, drinks and snacks for volunteers working on the relocation of the garden at Breathing Space. A big thank you to Meatmart at Hellaby for their support and for continuing to offer a 10% discount to all NHS staff.

Thanks to all of this support and the hard work of many individuals, the Breathing Space Garden has now completed a 160 mile journey up north from London to Rotherham following the end of the 2026 RHS Chelsea Flower Show, and is now fully installed. The garden will be formally opened at an event later this year on Wednesday 16 September.
James Chambers, Managing Director at Plant-Fit commented: “As soon as we heard about the project and the difference it would make to people living with respiratory conditions, we knew we wanted to help. As a business, we believe in supporting projects that leave a lasting positive impact on local communities, and this project is a perfect example of that.
“Having suffered with asthma myself for many years, I understand some of the challenges that people living with respiratory conditions face on a daily basis. Breathing is something many of us take for granted until it becomes difficult. That personal connection made supporting this project even more meaningful to me. Knowing that this garden will provide a peaceful environment where people can relax, reflect and support their physical and mental wellbeing makes it particularly special.”

Changes to charity funding requests
The charity has introduced an updated process for managing departmental charitable funding to improve clarity, efficiency and departmental ownership while maintaining strong governance.
Departments will now submit funding requests during quarterly windows:
1 Jan – 31 Mar - reviewed for funding between 7 – 21 April
1 Apr – 30 Jun – reviewed for funding between 7 July – 21 July
1 Jul – 30 Sep – reviewed for funding between 7 October – 21 October
1 Oct – 31 Dec – reviewed for funding between 7 January – 21 January
Applications will be jointly reviewed by the Charity and Fund Stewards (Care Group General Managers), with larger awards requiring additional approval from the Charitable Fundraising Committee who are involved in governance and oversight of the charity.
Once approved, departments will raise a purchase order within 30 days, after which funds will be transferred to departmental budgets for procurement through standard Trust processes. Departments remain responsible for ensuring appropriate use of funds and completing a short evaluation report.
Thrilled to support the Proud Awards
What a fantastic evening we had at this year’s Proud Awards, held on 19 June. A moment each year where we pause to celebrate the dedication and resilience of our incredible colleagues across the Trust.
The charity is pleased to support the event by sourcing sponsorship from trusted suppliers and local businesses.
In the past 4 years, Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity has sourced £45,000 worth of sponsorship for this annual event.
We’d like to congratulate all of this year’s deserving winners and say a huge thank you to everyone who purchased a raffle ticket on the night. You helped us raise a huge £1,300 for our Dementia Appeal!
Volunteer with us at Meadowhall
The talented Blu Crew will be performing at Meadowhall this Summer to help raise much needed funds for our Dementia Appeal.
The group are incredible and have raised over £100,000 over the past 15 years for various charities across Rotherham and beyond. We need as many bucket collectors as possible across both days and would love you to join us for a great day of live singing, bucket collecting and feel-good fun!

You can volunteer all day, or opt to do a 2 hour volunteering slot - any support you can offer us is appreciated so much. Thank you.
