The Big Chris Barber Band Jazz legend Chris Barber celebrates his 70th Anniversary as band-leader in 2019 with a Europe-wide concert tour. Inspired by the King Oliver Creole Jazz Band, Chris formed his first band in 1949 at the age of nineteen and has since gone on to become not only Europe’s most successful and influential bandleader, but a bona fide jazz legend. With his 10-piece band, Chris plays a selection of his favourite music, including numbers such as Bourbon Street Parade, Jubilee Stomp, Petite Fleur, Ice Cream, When The Saints Go Marching In, and many, many more.

Legends of Irish music and song The Fureys are renowned for their hit songs I Will Love You, When You Were Sweet 16, The Green Fields Of France, The Old Man, Red Rose Café, From Clare To Here, Her Father Didn’t Like Me Anyway, Leaving Nancy and Steal Away. Their folk based music has received standing ovations in some of the biggest concert halls of the world and they credit their musical ability to their parents, Ted and Nora, who were well known musicians themselves. Remi Harris is an exciting guitarist from the UK whose unique style draws inspiration from Gypsy Swing, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Electronic and World Music. He has toured worldwide as well as performing at Buckingham Palace, Montreal Jazz Festival, BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall with Jamie Cullum, on BBC 4 Television and live on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 3.
Recently honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Ards International Guitar Festival in Northern Ireland, Sarah has drawn critical praise for both her voice (which has been variously likened to malt whiskey and melted chocolate) and her engaging rapport with audiences.
Sailing dangerously close to National Treasure status, one of the most outspoken politicians of our time embarks on her first ever national tour. Entertaining, enlightening and as controversial as you would expect, Margaret Thatcher and Craig Revel Horwood collide as Ann lifts the lid on life in Westminster and shares behind-the-scenes gossip from some of the nation’s best-loved programmes, including Strictly Come Dancing, Have I Got News For You and Celebrity Big Brother.

Swinging At The Cotton Club Take a step back into 1920s & ’30s New York City and through the doors of Harlem’s hottest nightclub, ‘The Cotton Club’! ‘Swinging at The Cotton Club’ is the action-packed show celebrating the music and dance of the Cotton Club – New York’s most celebrated nightclub of the 1920s and ‘30s. Performances by Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Fats Waller would have had the club swinging - whilst dancers such as Bojangles Robinson and the Nicholas Brothers lit up the stage with their breathtaking routines. As with the original band, Jive Talkin’ is very much a family affair, with brothers Gary and Darren Simmons taking the roles of Maurice and Barry Gibb, with Darren’s son Jack joining the group in 2014 and taking on the role of Robin Gibb. The guys are supported musically by a four piece band with Guitar, Violin, Cello and Drums, to ensure that every note in every song is just right. Containing such classics as Ramble On, Thank You and, of course, Whole Lotta Love, this LP was the one which catapulted Led Zeppelin from being just another sixties blues group to one of the most influential and successful bands of all time. It was the first of their albums to reach number one, toppling the Beatles’ Abbey Road in the process, and staying on the LP chart for a total of 138 weeks. The first half of this special show will consist of a selection of songs from Led Zeppelin’s vast back catalogue. The second half will feature the whole of Led Zeppelin II played in the same sequence as the original LP.

The Roses Youth Theatre’s four groups each perform in the end of year showcase. Beginners have been enjoying an introduction to the world of drama and characterisation and this will be their first step on the stage at The Roses. Juniors have been expanding their imagination through acting out scenarios with given themes, an opening line, a closing line or a trait that one of the characters had to have. They have been exploring story telling with Roald Dahl. Seniors began with improvisation, expanding on previous ideas and channelling that into an as yet untitled devised piece. Finally, after their successful performance of Mark Ravenhill’s Totally Over You in February, Company now turn their attention to the theme “Alone Together” and present their own devised piece.

Fisherman’s Friends (12A) A A feel-good British comedy along the lines of The Full Monty, this is the true story of Port Isaac’s shanty singing fishermen. In a twist of fate, a cynical music executive finds himself in a Cornish village trying to sign the group. Attempting to overcome their scepticism about the music business, he finds himself drawn into the community and is shown the meaning of loyalty, love and friendship.
Hilary Swank leads an impressive ensemble cast in this beautifully observed and often surprisingly humorous family drama. At her brother’s behest, Bridget returns to her childhood home in Chicago, where her mother is losing a fight with Alzheimer’s. Her presence there stirs up long suppressed resentments and tensions, but ultimately the crisis they are facing will bring the family closer together.

Small Island Adapted by Helen Edmundson Andrea Levy’s Orange Prizewinning novel Small Island comes to life in an epic new theatre adaptation, filmed live on stage as part of National Theatre Live’s 10th birthday. Small Island embarks on a journey from Jamaica to Britain, through the Second World War to 1948 – the year the HMT Empire Windrush docked at Tilbury. The play follows three intricately connected stories. Hortense yearns for a new life away from rural Jamaica, Gilbert dreams of becoming a lawyer, and Queenie longs to escape her Lincolnshire roots. Hope and humanity meet stubborn reality as the play traces the tangled history of Jamaica and the UK. A company of 40 actors take to the stage of the National Theatre in this timely and moving story.

Reservations: Payment is required for reserved tickets within 3 days of the reservation, or 3 days prior to the date of the event, whichever is the soonest. Any reserved tickets not paid for by this time will be released. Exchanges: At our discretion, tickets can be exchanged for a different performance of the same event. An administration fee of £2 per ticket applies. We do not offer exchanges on tickets for different events. Refunds: We do not offer refunds on any tickets unless the event is cancelled or postponed. If you are unable to attend a performance, and the performance is sold out, we will offer to resell your tickets and credit your account. Members may be credited on performances that they are unable to attend provided we are notified prior to the event.
Families £2 off adult tickets for all parties of 3 - 9 when the group includes at least one child. Each party must include at least one person under the age of 16 and one adult.
