I’ve received such a huge warm welcome in my first few months in my new job and it’s been wonderful getting to know the theatre, the town of Tewkesbury, and its residents.

Next Live Broadcast Announced Following our first trial live broadcast of I AM BEAST back in March, we are delighted to announce the second, which will take place on Thursday 8 June when we broadcast EDge - the postgraduate performance company of London Contemporary Dance School.

We hope that in time many of our productions will offer the opportunity to watch online for those that are unable to come to the theatre for the live performance or the chance to watch a performance where tickets have sold out.

The live screening on 8th June is free to watch – please check our website for further details and instructions on how to access the live broadcast.

AICA It is the future; Earth is a dying planet ruled by an unstoppable tyrant. Eight young children are sent to a newly classified planet, Aicarro, in the hope that Earth will be saved by their discoveries.

But when friendships strike between the Aica and the children, and more hardships fall on the people of Earth, which side will truly survive?

Abba Forever

The Roses Youth Theatre’s Juniors and Seniors Groups present their annual performance, which they have been working towards throughout the year. For more information on The Roses Youth Theatre, including free taster sessions, see page 26.

ABBA Forever is one of the UK’s leading international tribute shows, and theatre audiences have long enjoyed this superb recreation of one of the world‘s greatest pop bands.

The unique ABBA sound is replicated with an incredible attention to detail, using a sixpiece band. Two outstanding ABBA girls complete the line-up, adding the essential glitz and glamour to a well-polished and humorous show.

The wonderful lyrics penned

by Benny and Bjorn are sung in magnificent harmony by all six performers on stage. Dynamic non-stop choreography, stunning visuals, top class musicianship and a complete performance ensures that the ABBA Forever Show captivates audiences from the opening refrain to the final sing-along chorus of this two-hour spectacular.

Regarded as one of British folk’s finest singer-songwriters, Steve’s songs have been covered by Fairport Convention, Martin Simpson, Wizz Jones, Phil Beer and many others. In total he’s released ten albums of original songs that consistently meld tradition with innovation, delivering intelligent and inspired English poetry amid beautifully distinctive original melodies. His latest album, Another Day, was released in January to rave reviews.

Leather & Lace is a dynamic new live show bringing all those classic rock anthems and ballads you love to the stage.

Cirrus the dog has a serious job: he has to keep watch on the sheep. What to do when they lose themselves, drifting amongst the dancing clouds? How can he help these woolly-headed dreamers get back down to earth?

Designed for 0- 5 year olds and their families to enjoy together, this is theatre that surrounds with sound, touch and visual treats.

Following a successful visit in March, clarinet player Paul Johnson once again joins up with Nathan King on guitar and Mike Sallis on bass to present their own take on jazz standards and cafe music.

Whether playing as a trio, or with an occasional guest soloist, the three friends love jazz ballads and superstandards in the spirit of café culture, occasionally dipping into eastern folk and Latin music to express their pleasure in sharing the moment with a close audience.

Paul has been a trustee of The Roses for two years and when not appearing in the artistic programme can be found as a managing partner of local solicitors Thomson & Bancks.

The Lindsay Martin Trio The Lindsay Martin Trio pay tribute to the Great American Songbook in this afternoon of sweet, stripped back, vocal led swing numbers.

With warm humour and audience participation interspersed throughout the show, this Seventies revival will give you the chance to experience what it was truly like to spend an evening in the company of Neil Diamond.

The Bob Dylan Story will remind you what real nostalgia feels like, with true classics from Blowin’ In The Wind and Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door to Subterranean Homesick Blues and All Along The Watchtower.

You’ll surely be digging out your old vinyl to sustain the pleasure just that little bit longer.

Aided by a rockabilly hog (Elvis Pigsley), a Compass Fish and a somewhat melodramatic turkey, can Fox and Rabbit get the Owl and Pussycat to the hill on time to finally tie the knot?

The MakeShift Ensemble bring a sense of adventure and humour to this wonderful retelling of Edward Lear’s classic nonsense poem, brought to life with puppetry and live music. Bring your imaginations and your runcible spoons and be entertained whatever your age.

Bandit is an immersive four-day songwriting and band workshop for students aged 8 to 17.

Dressed as a man, the exiled Rosalind is ready to begin a new life after escaping her foes in the dead of night. But, when she runs into the love-sick Orlando and joins forces with the colourful inhabitants of the Forest of Arden, who knows? Rosalind’s plans may lead to more than just her own happy ending…

Kim Lowings & The Greenwood

By taking part, students from around the county have the opportunity to gain experience in musicianship, creative songwriting and performance skills.

The first three days are held at Tewkesbury School, with performance day and gig at The Roses.

Shakespeare is always made understandable and enjoyable with MadCap’s fun, fast-paced and entertaining staging that combines comedy, music, dance and physicality with the original script.

Inspired by the folk tradition, Kim Lowings and The Greenwood perform their songs with a contemporary twist.

Their live shows are an energetic blend of original compositions and traditional songs. Kim Lowings, Andrew Lowings, Tim Rogers and Dave Sutherland bring together their multi-instrumental skill and individual experience resulting in an innovative and sensitive approach to arrangements.

The group began as a collective in 2011 with Kim and her Dad, Andrew.

Since then the Greenwood has become an established four-piece on the British folk scene. Their new album, Wild & Wicked Youth, will be released this Autumn.

Gigspanner’s Big Birthday Band Celebrate Peter Knight’s 70th birthday year with him as he brings together friends old and new for a special one-off concert.

Already firmly established as a trio, Peter Knight’s Gigspanner is comprised of Peter, Roger Flack and new percussionist Sacha Trochet. This evening they will be joined by duo Philip Henry and Hannah Martin as well as fellow folk stalwart John Spiers.

Unhindered by the limits of technical ability, the group take self-penned material along with music rooted in the British Isles, and with the flick of a bow, a finely chosen chord or slip of a beat, produce richly atmospheric arrangements layered within a wealth of subliminal musical influences.

Much Ado About Nothing The war is over and the eighties are in full swing. Duke Leonato is visited by Prince Pedro and his wingmen Benedick and Claudio.

When Claudio falls in love with the Duke’s daughter Hero, their marriage is agreed, but the Prince’s leather-bound illegitimate brother contrives a malicious plot: Claudio is misled into thinking that he has witnessed Hero in a compromising situation on the night before their wedding – in fact it is her aerobics instructor with a member of Wham!

After being denounced during their lavish marriage ceremony, Hero faints. Beatrice, a good friend of Hero’s, demands that Benedick should kill Claudio… Will all be resolved in amongst the unfolding turmoil of eighties pop music?!

Andrea Pattison truly becomes Dolly from the moment she puts on her replica rhinestoneencrusted costumes. Bee Daws is a specialist puppeteer inspired by the Japanese Bunraku form of puppetry. Bee will be joining The Roses and offering a 3 hour workshop using Jim Henson style puppets to capture the imagination of her group and explore techniques on how the puppet comes to life.

The Roses Youth Theatre The Roses Youth Theatre is a great way to get involved with one of Gloucestershire’s most active theatres. Each week we deliver 5 workshops for children and young people aged 5 – 21, developing skills in acting, improvisation, script work and acting for stage and screen.

Alongside our team all Youth Theatre members develop confidence through drama, voice coaching and movement. The Roses hosts the youth theatre’s main performance each year, affording members the opportunity to experience first-hand the inner workings of a professionally run venue.

Exhibitions Graham Jones & Gareth Austin

Graham Jones started to paint at around the age of 12, but after discovering the art of three dimensions he became a professional sculptor which he has enjoyed for 35 years. Returning to painting, his works use the freedom of approach he discovered as a sculptor but takes him down exciting new routes of self expression with colour and composition.

Gareth Austin’s work (pictured) depicts his fascination with contrast between light and dark and how light falling on objects and the shadows created defines the materials and textures of the subjects. He uses realism and detail as a way of freezing time, inviting us to appreciate the dazzling beauty of simple things.

Passion For Painting

This exhibition of work by Evesham College’s Passion for Painting group offers an exciting and colourful range of new work. Working in various paint mediums, such as oils, acrylic and collage, many themes are explored to produce a selection of contemporary and traditional art works for sale.

Fees And Charges

A postage charge of £1 per booking applies if you wish to have your tickets posted to you. You can avoid this charge by collecting your tickets from the Box Office.

A voluntary contribution will be requested with each transaction to help secure the future of The Roses.

Reservations & Refunds

Reservations: Payment is required for reserved tickets within 3 days of the reservation, or 3 days prior to the date of the event, whichever is the soonest.

Any reserved tickets not paid for by this time will be released.

Exchanges: At our discretion, tickets can be exchanged for a different performance of the same event. An administration fee of £2 per ticket applies.

We do not offer exchanges on tickets for different events.

Refunds: We do not offer refunds on any tickets unless the event is cancelled or postponed. If you are unable to attend a performance, and the performance is sold out, we will offer to resell your tickets and credit your account. Members may be credited on performances that they are unable to attend provided we are notified prior to the event.

Only food and drinks purchased on the premises can be consumed whilst at The Roses. We reserve the right to refuse admission to intoxicated or disorderly people. Age guidance stated for live shows (where applicable) is provided by the visiting companies. The Roses is unable to accept responsibility for accuracy

Ticket Types Full price: Adults Concessions Available (where specified) to children aged 3 – 15, to people receiving a state pension, those in receipt of Disability Living Allowance, Job Seekers Allowance or other documented benefits. You may be required to prove eligibility. Under 3s go free, provided they sit on a parent or guardian’s lap. Concessions are £2 off tickets for live events (excludes Band C on banded events) and £1 off for film.

Families £2 off adult tickets for all parties of 3-9 when the group includes at least 1 child. Each party must include at least 1 person under the age of 16 and 1 adult. We do not charge for children under the age of 3, provided they sit on a parent or guardian’s lap.

16-25s A limited number of seats are available at £5 off the advertised price across any live event that offers concessions (excludes Price Band C on banded events). All 16 - 25s tickets must be booked in the recipient’s name.
