ROEPER SUMMER DAY CAMP RECREATIONAL DAY CAMP FOR AGES 3 – 12 Roeper Summer Day Camp was carefully developed by its founders, George and Annemarie Roeper, to provide a wonderful opportunity for children throughout the Detroit metropolitan area to enjoy a rewarding camp experience. Since its establishment in 1947, we have enjoyed providing a successful program for the children that is respected by their parents. Camp life is part of your child’s total education. Through the high caliber of our counselors, we deliver a program so rich and varied that all children with individual interests can easily respond to the environment and find fresh inspiration. Roeper Camp is dedicated to giving each child a place to feel secure, gain self-confidence and expand experiences.
THE CAMP SETTING Located on the Woodward corridor between Long Lake and Square Lake Roads, Roeper Camp operates on the beautiful 13-acre Bloomfield Hills campus of The Roeper School. The campus includes woodlands, a creek, an athletic field, two swimming pools, three playgrounds, nature trails and numerous buildings. The Community Center contains a gymnasium, catering kitchen, lunch room, classrooms and locker rooms that serve both the swimming pools and gymnasium. Younger children have selfcontained playgrounds. Whether on campus or field trips, children are supervised at all times.
STAFF The Leadership Team is assisted by a staff of trained and experienced men and women selected for their interest in education, experience in camping and, above all, their abilities to understand and work with children. The staff consists of Roeper School faculty, teachers from other schools, college students and high school students. All activities are taught by counselors who are passionate about their fields — several who have been at Roeper Summer Day Camp for many summers. All staff members undergo a background check, and CPR training is provided for them during staff orientation.
COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING
COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM Counselor-In-Training (CIT) positions are available for students ages 14 to 16 who have had at least one year off from being a camper. This is a volunteer program that allows students to fulfill community service hour requirements from their schools. Directed by Head Counselors, CITs learn how to interact with, care for and supervise children through hands-on experience. Each CIT is assigned to work with camper groups at various age levels throughout the summer. Parental consent for program participation is required. CIT candidates may be interviewed by the Leadership Team prior to acceptance into the program. First year CITs, may volunteer for a maximum of two sessions unless invited to extend their time based on performance. After the first year, CITs may volunteer for up to four sessions.

Recognizing that day camp is often the first experience away from home, counselors provide a caring environment, facilitating personal and group adjustment. Each group consists of approximately 15 – 20 campers, two Head Counselors, one Assistant Counselor and one Counselor-In-Training (CIT). Lower Camp counselors spend the entire day with their groups. They attend all activities together, many of which are planned by Special Activity Counselors. Each afternoon Lower Camp groups have a scheduled swim time when campers swim with their counselors and CITs. Lower Camp campers swim in the leisure pool unless they have passed a swim test allowing them to swim in the 25-yard pool. All campers must be able to use the bathroom independently. Pull-ups are not permitted at camp.

MIDDLE CAMP AGES 5 – 6 (currently in kindergarten) Middle Camp is for campers who are currently in kindergarten and will be entering first grade in September. Each group consists of approximately 20 campers, two Head Counselors, one Assistant Counselor and one CIT (when available). Middle Camp provides a transition from Lower Camp to Upper Camp. Middle Camp children are scheduled to attend all activities that are offered to both Lower Camp and Upper Camp. Each day, one of the activity times scheduled will be a free choice period. During free choice periods, counselors help campers choose from three Upper Camp activities. Middle Camp children are escorted to and from all activities. Each day Middle Camp groups have a scheduled swim time where campers swim with their counselors and CITs. Middle Camp campers swim in the leisure pool unless they have passed a swim test allowing them to swim in the 25-yard pool.

NEW OFFERINGS FOR 2017:
ROEPER SUMMER DAY CAMP HYBRID PROGRAMS This year we will be offering a new option for campers — the Roeper Summer Day Camp Hybrid Programs. This new offering is available to boys and girls currently in second grade through age 12. The Hybrid Camps provide campers with the opportunity to spend half of the day at Roeper Summer Day Camp involved in regular activities and, during the other half of the day, campers will attend a specialty camp. Three unique Roeper Summer Day Camp Hybrid Programs are being offered this year — Soccer Camp, Lacrosse Camp and Technology Camp.
All Roeper Summer Day Camp Hybrid Programs participants are eligible to enroll in after-camp enrichment offerings, swim lessons, and after-care.

All campers will be dropped off at Roeper Summer Day Camp during the normal arrival time (before-care is available). At 9am campers enrolled in the Soccer and Lacrosse Camps will travel via The Roeper School bus, with their counselors, to the location of their camp at Ultimate Soccer Arena. Campers will attend their sports camp until noon, at which time they will board The Roeper School bus to return to the Roeper Summer Day Camp. Campers will then eat lunch and attend regular scheduled afternoon activities at Roeper Summer Day Camp.
Each two-week Roeper Summer Day Camp Hybrid Program costs $820 and includes lunch. The Hybrid camps require a $150 deposit within 14 days of registration. The remaining camp fees, after the enrollment deposit has been applied, will be due in two equal installments as follows:
Campers enrolled in the Technology Camp will attend Roeper Summer Day Camp in the morning and after lunch will attend the Technnology Camp from 12:30 – 3:30pm in an on-campus computer lab.
The Hybrid Camps will not be offered on Friday, August 11 due to the Upper Camp Field Trip. Campers enrolled in the Hybrid Camps will be attending the field trip to Groveland Oaks.

INDIVIDUAL HYBRID PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS SOCCER CAMP Campers will work on all technical and tactical aspects of the game in a fun environment. Dribbling, passing, trapping and shooting will be practiced in drills, small sided games and in full scrimmages. This program will be run by a qualified soccer coach.
LACROSSE CAMP Learn to play Lacrosse with AllAmerican Lacrosse’s introductory program for boys and girls. This camp will focus on the basic skills necessary to play the game — passing, catching, ground balls, dodging and rules. Good fundamentals are critical to the development of positive habits that stay with you throughout your lacrosse career, so the focus is on proper techniques. Boys and girls lacrosse are two different games, and every attempt will be made to group campers by gender as enrollment allows. The camp will also try to sub-divide by age, as enrollment allows, for a comfortable learning experience amongst peers. The only equipment required is a mouth guard. Each camper will receive a new Warrior or Brine lacrosse stick to use in camp and to keep afterward.
TECHNOLOGY CAMP Campers build valuable STEAM skills in an inspiring setting, learning multiple technologies during their two-week session, including game design using MIT’s Scratch, app development using Bitsbox, JavaScript and 3D printing using AutoDesk 123D Design. In addition, campers will experience storyboarding, problem solving and presentation skills in each session. Our mission is to provide an engaging and personalized learning experience. Technology Camp is offered by AccelerateKID Summer Tech Camps, who, in 2013, set out to reinvent “tech camps” to create future creators for the 21st Century. Projects include: Game Design: Flappy Bird using Scratch, days 1 – 3 App Design: Fruit Ninja using Java Script, days 4 – 7 3D printing: Medallion using AutoDesk 123D Design, days 8 – 10 This camp is the same each session.
UPPER CAMP SPECIAL EVENING PROGRAM Session 2 only Campers in Session 2 may attend a special evening program with their group and counselors. The special evening program will begin following the regular camp day and conclude at 8:00pm. Group games, swimming, a pizza party and s’mores around the campfire will fill the evening. Each Upper Camp and Hybrid Camp group schedules one special evening during the second session of camp. Exact dates are not determined until the beginning of camp. There are no refunds or makeup days for missing the program.
UPPER CAMP FIELD TRIP Session 4 only A field trip is scheduled for Upper Camp to Groveland Oaks on August 11. Group games and activities are organized, a picnic lunch is served, and children have the opportunity to swim at the park. All Upper Campers in attendance on the field trip day are expected to participate because there will be no supervision for them at camp.
special activities for all ages In addition to the numerous daily activities offered, there are many special events and activities scheduled throughout the summer in coordination with weekly themes. The exact dates of weekly themes and activities are not decided upon until the start of camp. Some weekly theme examples include Hawaiian, Hollywood, Western, Disney, Space, Halloween, Pirate, and Magic. Special activities have included a camp movie, talent show, cardboard boat races, reptile show, Halloween in July, climbing wall, an inflatable slide and an inflatable obstacle course.
HOT LUNCH PROGRAM Included in the camp tuition is a daily hot lunch. Each day two entree selections, one of which is vegetarian, are served with beverages, along with a salad bar, sandwiches, fruits and dessert. For the campers’ safety, items that contain nuts, peanuts or peanut oil will not be served.

AFTER CAMP ENRICHMENT
Roeper Summer Day Camp has two in-ground pools. One is a 1200 square-foot leisure pool with depths between six inches and two-and-a-half feet. This pool is used for Lower and Middle Camp children who are not quite ready for deeper water. The leisure pool has a raindrop water feature.
Swimming lessons are available for all ages at the cost of $60 per session. All other enrichment opportunities are available for campers enrolled in the Upper and Hybrid Camps at the cost of $75 per session. Register online for these programs when you register for camp.
The second is a 25-yard pool with depths between three-and-a-half and eight feet. Both pools have water slides, are fenced, and have Red Cross-certified lifeguards on duty at all times. Water safety is stressed for all ages. Colored wrist bands are worn by swimmers to identify areas of the pool in which they are allowed to swim.

Campers must be between the ages of 3 and 12 on June 19, 2017 to be enrolled in camp. Children must be potty-trained and able to use the bathroom independently to attend camp.

scholarships A limited number of Roeper Summer Day Camp scholarships are available for 2017. Amounts awarded may be partial- or full-session scholarships. Scholarships will be awarded for one session only per child. Scholarships will be awarded based upon demonstrated financial need and scholarship availability, until all funds are exhausted. The Scholarship Application is available online as part of the registration material. Please register for camp and then complete the online scholarship application. Scholarship applicants do not need to pay a deposit while awaiting a scholarship decision. All applications and accompanying documentation are due by February 17, 2017. Decisions will be made by March 3, 2017.

BEFORE & AFTER CARE Before- and after-camp supervision programs are available at an extra charge of $5.00 per hour. This program can be used as needed; no prior arrangements are necessary. Time used will be figured based upon the half hour, and all time will be rounded up for billing purposes. Invoices will be emailed at the end of each session.

CANCELLATION POLICY Cancellation of enrollment should not be assumed until confirmed by the Camp. Refunds of deposit only are provided before March 31, 2017 and must be requested in writing or by email. Refunds of camp fees are not provided after March 31, 2017 for any reason, including, without limitation: absences, suspensions, dismissals, withdrawals, or dissatisfaction with placement or program. After March 31, 2017 no refunds will be issued, and all unpaid fees shall be due and payable in the amounts and at the times designated in the contract. For extended illness, refunds will be on a per-day basis beginning after the fourth day of absence. A signed letter from a physician is required for refund. Refunds of camp fees will not be provided for camp closures due to circumstances beyond the camp’s control, such as severe weather and power outages.
OTHER FORMS The necessary camp forms — upon receipt of your deposit — will be emailed to you with your confirmation letter. By law, children must have a physician-signed health form returned to Roeper before starting camp. Health forms completed within one year of the start of camp will be accepted.
