THE VOICE EDITION ONE 2019
For those of you who are new to college, The Voice is a student run magazine that is released every few weeks. It will be filled with a run down of all the college events that have happened, including lots of happy snaps. The Voice is also a way to get to know the RMC community better through segments like the ‘Humans of RMC’, featured articles, and the wiretap. I’m Lucy and I’m in my second year of uni. I’m studying Secondary Education and Science majoring in Biology (Yes, I know scary high school kids). I’m from Orange which is 3.5 hours drive from Mac Uni. I play soccer but I also enjoy playing other sports. If you are ever in need of some company I am happy to sit and watch vine compilations, corgi videos, and anything to do with Taylor Swift. I really enjoyed my first year of college and I’m excited to be a part of The Voice to help capture the fun and amazing memories made at RMC.
I’m Leila and I’m currently in my second year of my psychology and primary education degree. I believe my degree says alot about my personality because I like to help people in any way that I can. So, if you ever need life advice or even fashion advice, my door is always open. I’m originally from Canberra and despite what everyone says, I love it there. That being said, I loved my first year at RMC because I made so many incredible memories with my friends. I’m so excited to be editing The Voice this year and capture all the fun of RMC 2019!
On Sunday the 17th of Feb, RMC was very excited to welcome over 100 new residents. The day was filled with moving in boxes, meeting new people, learning what turned out to be a killer fresher dance, block meetings, and free ice cream. Yes, that is right FREE ice cream. The new residents and their families also had a chance to get know the RA’s, Exec Members, and College Staff at both the Welcome Event and Lunch.
Volleyball, Croquet, Jenga, get to know you bingo, and doughnut eating contests were all on display at the first event of the O-week schedule: SUMMER SESH. Freshers had a chance to chat and get to know each other as well as join in on a large game of volleyball on the astro turf.
There is nothing like running around Sydney, getting terrible haircuts, and dancing partially clothed in a fountain to break the ice between strangers and create lasting memories of your first week in college. Congratulations Hannah, Sam and Alice’s team on winning!
It was too hard to sleep for the freshers on Wednesday night, knowing that the dance off was just around the corner. After 7 hours of dance training, the freshers put on their brightest fluro clothes and headed to Ubar to take on DLC in the Annual dance off. After a fantastic performance, RMC were able to win the dance off for the 5th year in a row. Head to the RMCSA Facebook Page to check out the whole dance if you missed it!
Despite the threats of rain, a bunch of RMC residents put on their best flash-back Friday dream team costumes and set sail for a fun night of dancing on the Sydney harbour. Although everyone was dressed spectacularly, a special mention goes out to those who took out the Costume Prizes for the night. 1st Place: Scooby Doo Gang; 2nd Place: 80’s Disco; and 3rd Place: The Yummy Mummies.
After an insanely fun but tiring week, RMC got together for a chilled movie night featuring an audience favourite: Now You See Me.
Those who had survived the week without needing a Sunday nap, joined together (literally) for an amazing race style event around the uni. Freshers learnt their way around campus whilst surviving the two litre milk challenge, fruit bobbing, messy bootcamp, and many more obstacles. Congratulations to Georgia, Rowan, Jeremy, Beccy, and Mick for bringing home the win!
After all the crazy events during o-week, we got to learn a little bit extra (maybe too much) about our freshers in a game of ‘Never have I ever’ and ‘30 second dating’.
To round off all the O-Week events, the closing ceremony was a chance to reflect on the past week and celebrate those who really stood out.
