Fashions of the Fifties are in full swing with very rare dolls, 1940s-1960s, in pristine condition, ranging from Cissy to Elise, from early 1950s school girls to stylish Cissette, including extremely rare models and costume variations. x

1. Pristine Babs Skater in Yellow Satin Skating Ensemble

18” (46 cm.) All hard plastic, soft curly blonde mohair wig. Wearing tagged yellow satin skating dress with marabou fluff trim and golden rick-rack, blue floral sprig, matching hood with yellow satin neck tie, panties, and metallic gold ice skates. Near mint condition. Alexander, model 3018, the doll was marketed as “Babs Skater”, 1948, and is a stunningly beautiful doll with perfect wig, rosy cheeks, fresh vibrant costume, original Fashion Award tag and curler box. $700/900

2. Tosca-Haired Wendy as “Guardian Angel” with Variant Coiffure

8” (20 cm.) Tosca wig drawn back from forehead and captured in a cluster of curls at the crown accented with rose petal clusters, short flipped curls and bangs, bentknee walking-style body. Wearing pale rose taffeta gown with gilt-edged yoke, metallic rick-rack edging, stiffened gilt-accented wings, pink taffeta panties, gilt shoes. The costume is tagged Alexander-Kins, and she has original wrist label. Near mint condition. Alexander, variation of model 480 “Guardian Angel”, 1954, crisp costume, gorgeous coiffure. $500/700

3. Blonde “Nina Ballerina” in Yellow Satin with Silver Rick-Rack Trim

18” (46 cm.) All hard plastic, Margaret face, blonde floss hair with cluster of fine curly bangs, side hair drawn back into an elaborate twist of curls at the crown decorated with tiny yellow silk rose buds and leaves that are repeated at the shoulder and hip. Wearing tutu with yellow satin bodice and tulle gathered, skirt edged with silver metallic rick-rack over two layers of net, yellow satin panties, pink ballerina slippers. 18” (46 cm.) Hard plastic walking-style body, ash blonde hair in soft curls with original rose silk hair bow. Wearing coral satin party dress with puff sleeves and lace trim, pink sash with floral cluster, matching panties, white socks, magenta suede-like shoes. Near mint condition. 14” (36 cm.) All hard plastic with five-piece body, golden blonde wig with curly bangs and overall shoulderlength curls, pink silk ribbon bows at each side of face. Wearing tagged dress with coral pleated skirt and sleeveless white bodice with Peter Pan collar, aqua knit sweater with pearl buttons, pink rayon petticoat and panties with white lace trim, white socks, brown/white saddle shoes. Near mint condition. Alexander, 1951, the pert Maggie-faced doll is perfectly suited for the prim little school girl costume, the model known as “Bobby Soxer”. $500/700

Wearing tagged pink cotton sundress with green rick-rack trim, lace-edged organdy petticoat and panties, socks, green suede-like side-snap shoes, and green flannel hat with sprig of pink velvet flower buds. Wearing tagged fitted coat of coral faille with pearl buttons, green velvet puff hat with floral accent, matching green velvet bag, pink taffeta dress with matching panties, coral suedelike shoes, white ribbed socks and pink hatbox with curlers. Near mint. Alexander, 1954, model 18788, with original box and attached “Sweet Violet” booklet; the doll was described in the Alexander catalog as “the only fullyjointed, walking doll ever made”. $700/900

15” (38 cm.) All hard plastic, tosca wig with curls and curled bangs. Wearing tagged wedding gown of white nylon tulle with unpressed pleated skirt over taffeta underdress, dotted tulle bodice with pearl edging at the throat, satin sash, tulle pleated sleevelets, Medici cap of stiffened lace with attached veil and floral trimmed inside brim, taffeta petticoat and panties, garter, seamed stockings, coral satin frontsnap shoes, bouquet to match flowers in cap. Near mint condition. Alexander, model 1590. 1956, beautiful complexion on the rare Binnie face version of the beloved bride. $400/500

18” (46 cm.) Tosca hair with curled bangs and hair drawn back into two clusters of curls at the back of her head, walkingstyle five-piece body, green sleep eyes. All hard plastic with Maggie face, light brown hair in unique original coiffure. Wearing a tagged costume reminiscent of 1850 fashions, comprising slate blue faille taffeta with side panniers and bustle drapery delicately etched with narrow white silk braid, delicate tulle sleevelets, tulle hooped taffeta petticoat, panties, stockings, black snap shoes, elaborate “tiny hat of starched white lace with a topknot of roses and forget-me-nots” (as described in the Alexander catalog) tied with fuchsia streamers, velvet fuchsia reticule, “diamond” earrings. All composition with socket head, blue sleep eyes, real lashes, dark eye shadow, red lips of closed mouth, blushed cheeks, ash-blonde wig in elaborate coiffure with braided coronet at the crown and coiled braids at each side of face that are decorated with dainty blue and rose flowers which are repeated at her waist, jointing at shoulders and hips. 14” (36 cm.) Light brown flossed hair with tight curls at forehead and an elaborate cluster of curls forming a topknot that is encircled with pink rose buds. Wearing tagged pink satin tutu with rich silver rick-rack and passementerie, rosebuds at shoulders and hips, three-layered pink tutu skirt with silver rick-rack, pink satin panties with lace trim, coral ballet slippers with pink ribbons. Near mint condition. Alexander, “Ballerina” (costume tag and name on original cloverleaf wrist tag), with original box stamped 5100, 1948, an especially beautiful doll with superb coiffure. $600/800

18” (46 cm.) All hard plastic with five-piece body, blonde floss wig curled atop her head with rose accents. Wearing tagged elaborate white tutu of satin and pleated organdy with floral and silver rick-rack trim accents, attached stiff underskirt and separate slip attached to panties, bead necklace, and pink slippers. Near mint, with original box and “Nina Ballerina” clover wrist tag. Alexander, 1950, original box, rare example of original box label without the “e” in word Madame (Madam). $700/900

20” (51 cm.) Cissy model with adult-lady-style body, brunette wig in curled chignon and curls arranged at crown. Wearing tagged velvet princess-style gown, cape stole of Orlon ermine accented with a corsage of sweetheart roses, black gloves, tear-drop rhinestone earrings and pearl necklace, white taffeta and tulle slip with white panties trimmed in Val lace, seamed nylon hose and black high heels. Near mint condition. Alexander, model 2173, 1957. Described in the Alexander catalog as an elegant “very formal gown”, especially beautiful facial painting. $900/1200

10” (25 cm.) All hard plastic with socket head, adult-lady-shaped torso, brunette hair arranged in upswept coiffure with one spit curl at forehead and lavender bow at the crown. Wearing rich lilac satin evening gown with flared shape, decorated with a band of lilac sequins, white

taffeta can-can petticoat, laceedged panties, stockings, white sling heels, three faux diamond dangle earrings with prism cut that captures the color of the gown. The costume is tagged “Margot”. Excellent condition. Alexander, model #920, the costume was described in the Alexander 1961 catalog as “the color of French lilacs”. $400/500

20” (51 cm.) Auburn wig in curled chignon, and with curls arranged at crown. Wearing tagged fitted-torso gown of black velvet and nylon tulle with roses at flounce and at the flared decolletage which is lined with pink satin, black taffeta and tulle slip, black panties trimmed with Val lace, seamed nylon hose with black high heels and pink insoles, pearl necklace, rhinestone

bracelet and ring. Excellent condition. Alexander, model 2043, 1956, the model appeared in the 1956 Alexander catalog, her gown described as “long-stemmed look”. $800/1000 17.

16” (41 cm.) Transitional model Elise, firm vinyl socket head, lady-shaped body, blonde hair with long bangs, arranged curls at her crown and chignon at nape. Wearing an ivory brocade gown over net-stiffened satin petticoat, pink satin flared opera coat with pale pink lining, panties, stockings, gold sling heels, floral coronet in hair, earrings and bracelet, faux diamond ring, and carrying a pearl-

trimmed evening bag. The costume is tagged “Elise”. Near mint condition with gorgeous face and coiffure, vibrant and fresh costume. The model was described in the 1963 Alexander catalog as “an ultra-modern gown of brocade with full-length, fully-lined opera coat of satin, cut with simplicity that is an art in itself”. $800/1100

20. Cissette “As Pretty as a Fashion Model” in Silk Gauze Dress

10” (25 cm.) Hard plastic body with adult lady shape, brunette hair with curly bangs and shoulder-length curls. Wearing tagged pink silk gauze dress with silk lapel collar and waist bow, rhinestone accents on turnedup silk cuffs, pink rose on collar, pink taffeta petticoat and panties, stockings, pink sling heeled shoes, woven hat with tulle and rosebuds.

17” (43 cm.) All hard plastic, soft light brown fleecy wig, five-piece body. Wearing tagged white sheer nylon gown with puffed sleeves, Peter Pan collar, green nylon ribbon bows, taffeta petticoat and panties, stockings, shoes and carrying hat box and little pearl trimmed purse. The doll represents Mary Martin in a costume from the Broadway play, South Pacific, in which she starred. Excellent condition. Alexander, 1950, with beautiful complexion and rare hair, the doll was made for only one year. $500/700

Wearing tagged cotton full-length pink printed gown with sprigs of tiny green leaves that are accented with green and black edging and black lace trim, lime green taffeta sash, hooped petticoat, panties, stockings, ivory front-snap shoes and a widebrimmed straw bonnet trimmed with tiny rose flowers and black tulle streamers. Alexander, the model appeared in the 1959 catalog in three sizes, this being the smallest size. $400/500

Excellent condition. Alexander, the model appeared in the 1959 catalog in three sizes, but appears to have been offered for one year only. $700/900

20” (51 cm.) Auburn wig with curly bangs and drawn back into cluster of curls at her nape. Wearing evening gown with painted pink flowers on tulle,

ruffled tulle shoulder detail and fitted bodice sprinkled with pink silk flowers having rhinestone centers, heavy taffeta underskirt, taffeta panties trimmed with Val lace, seamed nylon hose, silver cross-strap heels, fingerless white opera gloves, rhinestone ring and earrings, pearl necklace and a brimmed hat of doublelayered horsehair with tulle and large roses. Excellent condition. Alexander, model 2282, 1958, described in the Alexander 1958 catalog as having “a gown of great beauty...fragile and flowery”.

Wearing tagged coral taffeta gown with snugly-fitted torso, flared sequin-trimmed decolletage, full-length gathered skirt with draped tri-color (coral. aqua, gold metallic) hip sash which forms into a dramatic bow at the side hip, tulle and taffeta matching petticoat, panties, seamed stockings, garter, gold sling-strap heels, and jewelry including triple-drop pearl earrings, Excellent condition. Alexander, model 2100, the doll was presented in the 1955 series “A Child’s Dream Come True” described as “a very unusual gown”. $1100/1300

15” (38 cm.) Hard plastic, five-piece body, blonde mohair wig in original soft curls. Wearing original tagged pale rose gown with fitted silk-like bodice and floor-length rose tulle skirt over rose silk-like underskirt, tulle long sleeves, lace trim, rose panties, stockings, front-snap rose shoes, rose accented crown with floor-length cascading rose tulle veil and lace trim, and carrying bouquet of rose buds and rose lilies of the valley. Excellent condition, beautiful complexion and coiffure, fresh and vibrant costume. Alexander, the model is known as Margaret Bride, 1950, and has original gilt cloverleaf wrist tag. $400/500
