A Message from the CHAIR
A Message from the ADVISORY BOARD CHAIR

While we may pray that no new tragedies occur—natural disasters, wars, refugee crises—NATAN stands ready when disaster strikes.
Sitting here in the US, we know one thing for sure—NATAN will respond when and where we are needed. The governing board in Israel has a keen sense of which disasters call for NATAN’s unique capabilities and where we can make a real difference. NATAN’s size and agility enable us to respond quickly and effectively. One thing is for sure—we will be driven by only the purest motivations. With extremely low overhead, there is no pressure to “keep busy” or respond to seek a photo op.
In 2022, Americans contributed $581,000 to support NATAN’s operations. This is included $283,000 from Jewish Federations, the JDC, and synagogue congregations, $156,000 in individual donations, and $142,000 from foundations. (The average personal gift was under $300.) Ultimately, all this money is from individuals—individuals whose hearts were touched by the needs NATAN addresses and who were impressed that their gifts would be used with great effect and great efficiency.
Our goal for 2023 is to increase awareness of NATAN’s great work and enlarge the circle of friends we can call upon when disaster strikes. Not every event to which NATAN responds generates the awareness and outrage as the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its resulting refugee tragedy. We’ll have to work hard to publicize our missions and connect with people willing and able to support our work.
