I was supposed to write a newsletter about Patreons & Private Backers. I was supposed to book a flight to Memphis for my first professional appearance in the United States. And I was supposed to be making enough money to move in with my girlfriend. Maybe you can understand my disappointment and confusion when I looked at last month's newsletter, had to rewrite it and every other plan I had in my book. When April started, it really sank in how much and how suddenly life had changed. People were emotional. They were grieving without fully understanding what they were feeling. Others were oblivious and see their savings being decimated the longer we stay in various states of lockdowns in the world. It seemed devastating but in all that chaos I saw raw beauty. I felt hope.

I feel unreal because I can emphasize. I fully understand what many are experiencing, but the show must go on! This month's newsletter is as unscripted as it can get. I feel I needed that. I wanted that. I've been here before and I know how to rebuild things that seem to be lost. This is where you start from scratch.

The digital rabit hole.

Going digital is still an innovation.

I wrote in my last newsletter "This is the time to be creative." And to be honest "creative" feels like an uncomfortable roller coaster where the nausea never stops and the ride never ends. I reconnected with a guy I met two years back and before I knew it, we were organizing Digital Seminars and I'm writing a press release. I'm talking two to three hours per day on the phone and thanks to a Private Backer I was able to buy a microphone because my brain thought it would be cool to do a Podcast. My brain and I are not always inline with each other...

Someone needs to try to factory reset me!

Why do I need to put myself in these uncomfortable positions?

Why do I feel this urge to grow, develop, extend?

I was afraid of my own answer till I received acknowledgment from someone I never met, from a place I've only heard from. Deeper into innovation Blockchains, cryptocurrency and all that jazz.

Down the digital rabbit hole is a whole new world that even a Pirate like me, who has built his whole presence online, never knew existed on Curaçao. Apparently we are not only rich in sand and palm trees. We have many technological savvy people on the island from all age categories. Now that I am organizing Digital Conferences with Innovation Ç, I learned the meaning of smart contracts and the future of blockchain networks. The most interesting about cryptocurrencies and why our island should get involved is already in development, a project called CuraDAI. A cryptocurrency from Curaçao.

I'm not going to pretend to know anything here, but this can open multiple dimensions in my eyes. Can you imagine a world where you don't have to wait five business days to receive a payment? For me it would make a huge difference not paying fees to banks when I buy new fair trade organic The Recycled Pirate t-shirts all the way in India. It would mean my trade would get even faster and fairer.

Cryptocurrencies don't mean there won't be any fees. They will be a lot less however and not stay in a bank industry that doesn't seem to want its customers to benefit from their own money. At least that's how I experience it.

We are not there yet, but thanks to Innovation Ç I have spoken to so many who are involved with the future of blockchain and cryptocurrency. I have also noticed how many have no clue how their money is handled between banks. For The Recycled Pirate this has become crucial depending on donations through Patreon, payments through PayPal and traditional banks. This Covid-19 has really opened a rabbit hole where we all can benefit from.

The Pirate & Innovation Pirates were innovators before their time.

What is your value when you venture into new worlds? What is your knowledge worth if you don't know what the future holds? These are also questions that came to mind when the new world, the Americas, were discovered. Why would you venture into something new when you already have something to hold on? Be more Pirate is a key to understand the value of a rebellion.

Ask yourself, how secure is your security? These are questions that the old Pirates seek to answer by choosing their way instead of obeying to the status quo. They understood that the democracy that they obeyed, wasn't so much in the benefit of the people, but in the benefit of the ones in power. Legend tells us that Pirates brought anarchy, but the truth is, Pirates had more democracy than the supposedly democracies themselves.

Pirates were forceful innovators and were blockchain builders before the world was ready. They had a fair share in the spoils. A healthcare arrangement that was way ahead of its time, and they understood that together they were stronger. Pirates had more sense of community than all the Royal Navies combined. It is time for us all to embrace that inner Pirate in us and reconstruct communities that are build on equal pay and equal trust. This does not mean you have to earn less, so don't be afraid. Grab this book and understand why I choose a Pirate life for me.
