Scenic Drives

October is one of the prettiest months in the NC Smoky Mountains, in our opinion. We recommend getting out and taking full advantage of the fall colors that engulf our forests and hillsides this season. There are many scenic drives in the area, but we wanted to highlight one here.

Clingmans Dome Road to Clingmans Dome Tower and Trail Clingmans Dome Road is located in Great Smoky Mountains National Park and is 7-miles long. The drive leads you by a fantastic display of fall color. Drive up to ‘Clingmans Dome’ from U.S. Highway 441 (the only highway in the park) to an elevation of 6,643 feet. Clingmans Dome is the highest elevation in the entire park and offers some of the most stunning views around, from it’s tower, as well as from it’s parking lot. Once there, you’ll have an opportunity to hike along a paved 0.5 mile path to the tower. We highly recommend doing this. It is well worth it! Take comfortable shoes and warm clothes, it can be as much as 20 degrees cooler on the summit.

Local Directions: From Cherokee, NC take U.S. Hwy-441 North into Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Continue for 20 miles on this curvy two-lane highway to Clingmans Dome Road on your left.
