What a summer it’s been! Thousands have visited our area and discovered what a wonderful place Franklin is. There’s been a variety of activities for all to enjoy, from the Street Fest events that have revitalized Main Street to the recent BBQ Festival and Car Show that was not only fun, but delicious! If you didn’t participate, make sure to check it out next year. A couple of my favorite things about the end of summer are things that really define small-town America, especially here in the South; the local county fair and the return of high school football. The Macon County Fair is a rarity, as it is one of the last agriculture-only fairs in the state. We have a nice facility here in Franklin, and I encourage you to get out and visit the folks and see the animals this year. Also make sure to spend your Friday nights at the Panther Pit supporting this year’s high school football team. It’s sure to be a great season again for the Panthers! With all these great activities, and the laid-back, hometown feel of Franklin, why wouldn’t everyone that visits want to live here? Some of the highlights along this drive into the Nantahala Mountains include: Arrowwood Glad Picnic Area, Rufus Morgan Falls, Siler Bald, Appalachian Trail, Wayah Bald, Dirty John Shooting Range and Nantahala Lake.
