lasted two days during the third weekend in November. The FTX was organized and conducted by MS IVs (fourth year military science cadets), contributing to leadership training as future officers in the Army. MS IIIs are trained by MS IVs in order to lead the FTX the following year. MS Is and MS IIs undergo more simplified versions of the exercises.

After becoming last Christmas’ most popular gift, hoverboards, two-wheeled balance boards, continue to provoke safety concerns due to battery-related fires. These concerns have prompted a number of safety regulations on a global scale to the point of it being taken out of stores and being banned off of the St. Mary’s campus. According to USA Today, Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)’s Patty Davis stated that so far, there have been 11 reports of fires and a total of 39 emergency room injuries related to hoverboards. CPSC Chairman Elliot F. Kaye released a statement explaining that an investigation is being conducted to evaluate different components of the hoverboard, including the lithium-ion battery packs. Although the safety concerns have revolved around the fires, the CPSC is also investigating if the hoverboard’s design itself may increase fall-related injuries. Science Fiction has provided audiences with an opportunity to experience endless possibilities since the beginning of the 20th century. Some of these films have left a huge cultural imprint on society, such as “2001: A Space Odyssey,” “Alien” and “Star

Wars” due to imaginative storytelling and stunning visuals. Although science fiction has undoubtedly impacted pop culture, there is an apparent lack of people of color. According to Lee & Low Books, only eight percent of science-fiction and fantasy films have protagonists of color and zero percent of which are women of color. It was not until the late 1960s when

Nichelle Nichols, an African-American woman, starred as Lt. Uhura in the television series “Star Trek.” Her breakout role was revolutionary for AfricanAmerican woman who wanted to work in the science fiction genre; however, vast lines and screen time were not given to her.
