A Message from our Head of School Alex Brosowsky Dear Families:
“I awoke this morning with devout thanksgiving for my friends, the old and the new.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson As I reflect on the 2020-2021 school year here at The Quaker School at Horsham, I’m filled with love and gratitude for our donors, parents, and trustees. It wasn’t always easy, but we overcame each obstacle and kept going. While the words “we couldn’t have done it without you” are often overused, there’s no better way to say it. We simply could not have gotten through the 2020-2021 school year without each of you. And, thanks to you, we didn’t just get through. We got better. Stronger. We succeeded, on so many levels. We were able to shine. After being driven apart in March, we all came together in September. Some students were in class, others were virtual, and many used our state-of-the-art HyFlex program to move between in-person and at-home learning, staying home when needed and attending school in person when possible. COVID-19 was a constant threat, yet we only had seven cases all year (even through the dreaded winter surge) and had no known community spread.
When we think back on the year, we’ll likely remember our amazing community and the incredible resilience each person displayed. But we’ll also remember this as the year that you, our beloved donors, helped us build a new wing on our school. With your love and support, construction for the beautiful new home for our Upper School kicked off in summer 2020 and finished at the start of 2021. The Horsham Friends Meetinghouse hosted Upper School students during construction, allowing us to admit students in grade 10, and I am grateful for their caring and generosity. Most important, 2020-2021 was a year in which TQS students grew, thrived, and blossomed socially, behaviorally, and academically. Our school’s mission brings light into the world by improving the lives of children with complex challenges and their families. It is through your generous giving that this life-changing mission will continue into the future. Shine on, Alex
Donor Impact Highlights: The TQS Fund Your support assisted TQS to supply our faculty, staff and students with the needed health and safety supplies to help keep everyone 'safe & together' throughout the school year. We were also able to purchase the additional, and unexpected, technology needs to support learning from home with your gifts.
I was 100% supportive of TQS' Health & Safety Plan and knew that having my child in school was the best mode of learning for them and so I was moved to make a gift to the TQS Fund.
Donor Impact Highlights: The New Wing Your support helped to supplement the financial resources needed to build an addition to our school for our new Upper School students in ninth through twelfth grades. The new wing was completed in January 2021.
As a parent of an alumnae, I was happy to make a gift to the wing building fund as a way to help ensure that more students will receive the lifechanging education that my child did while at TQS.
Donor Impact Highlights: Scholarships Your gifts to our restricted scholarship funds enabled TQS to provide more financial aid to our families with demonstrated need which was especially critical due to the unexpected financial impacts of the COVID pandemic.
I have supported TQS for many years because I believe in the mission of the school and know that without TQS many of the students would not have another school to attend because they would be turned away. I'm proud to give to the scholarship fund to help families and their students.
Budget & Giving to TQS TQS relies on gifts from families and friends to help expand our student programs and to maximize the support we can give to our students -- like a sensory path leading from the entrance of our school to the classrooms. EXPENSES
