DIRECTOR'S LETTER Lean in... a little closer... I'm about to tell you a story. A story about 3 sisters.

This story contains all your essential plot lines including a dream which grew and grew each year into a beautiful collection of laughter and tears, hard work and determination and with enough inspiration and colour to fill a house.

Introducing The Prop House, the oldest sister and roof under which the sisterhood lives. My creation, The Prop House developed from a seedling in 1995. A seedling of a one-stop-shop for VM & events that grew into a high-profile business with fabulous clients and a unique and creative reputation.

Prestigious, joyous and with a wild imagination, The Prop House always exceeds expectations. The ‘first sister’ sets the bar high all through the land for event styling and prop hire.

In 2012 another sister came along called VM+. Just as dynamic, VM+ will inspire you, transport and transform you. VM+ thrives off global trends and forecasts and brings the big world of visual merchandising to South East Queensland.

The littlest sister to join the House is Christmas Decorations Brisbane (CDB), and with love in her heart she is known as the little elf of online shopping, because she will make your most magical Christmas dreams come true from the comfort of your living room.

To this day the sisterhood live in the cosy studio known as The Prop House at Woolloongabba. The committed, passionate, fun loving, hard-working, crazy team of artisans are in their element here! They love visitors and are eager to share their unique collection of props and services with the world... or at least our corner of Queensland.

The Prop House Goes for Gold The Prop House Goes for Gold, Styling the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, Athletes' Village.

HE COMMONWEALTH GAMES ATHletes' village looks more like a luxury resort holiday rather than one of the most competitive sporting events in the world.” The Courier Mail.

The team at The Prop House has been busy over the last few months, creating elaborate and beautiful installations for spectators and athletes to enjoy during their stay on the Gold Coast in the Athletes' Village.

With so much colour and excitement surrounding the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, The Prop House has been busy designing unique ways to celebrate the memorable event.

Hosting over 6,600 athletes and officials during the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the Athletes' Village on the Gold Coast welcomed international visitors to the Games through an extraordinary compilation of Australian themed spaces, designed by The Prop House.

Some of the themed hubs include Rainforest, Reef, Sunset, Outback, Surf and Beach. The exterior of the buildings were not forgotten, as The Prop House styled colour onto every surface possible, hanging bright lanterns and festoon lighting throughout the Village. The poolside transformed into a retreat with beanbags, hammocks and cushions galore, while the green grass invited guests to try their hand at a number of lawn games or relax under the tepee tent.

Providing residences to the athletes and officials, retail outlets, recreation and dining opportunities as well as medical facilities, the Athletes' Village was an integral part of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. With 70 nations joining the Games this year, The Prop House took on the rare and exciting opportunity to represent not only Brisbane’s event design industry, but Australia's. The styling aimed to offer guests a look into Australian life while they visited the Sunshine State.

Some spaces included the addition of props such as a giant The talented Brisbane based design team drew inspiration angel fish, flocks of seagulls, and a stunning real sized fig from our country's iconic landscape to inspire and dazzle tree, while a horse wagon and vintage saddles paid homage guests at the Athletes' Village. There is no need for a formal affair to be bland and boring. With the help of our styling team, we transform dinners and presentations into events to be remembered. With the simple elegance of a green chandelier decorated in festoon lights or star lit dinners accentuated with foliage as a table runner, dinners are no longer the simplicity of plates and crockery. The Prop House makes them come alive with colour, lighting, props and themes.

From a day at the races to culturally themed celebrations, The Prop House styles with experience and an eye for detail. Exotic celebration ‘Lawn at The Star’ was a bustling hub of excitement during the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. The Prop House was delighted to provide the styling overlay for Bacardi’s Caribbean ‘Rum Shack’ Bar and theme each of the four nights throughout the 2 week period. From pool party inflatables, to a British double-decker bus and thatched roofing with Hawaiian leis, there was no shortage of fun styling elements.

Hot off the tails of Game of Thrones, our most recent gala ball showcased a Fire & Ice theme to 630 guests. Main styling elements included a fire and ice inspired chandelier dripping from the ceiling, 6m tall inflatable flames, ice filled vases and floating candles.

We’re committed to making your event memorable with custom centrepieces; no theme is too much for us to style.

We kept things bright and fun at one client’s 21st, embracing the hot tropical trend featuring flamingos, palm trees and coconuts to create an island vibe for party goers. Channel summer through tiki bars and greenery or go wild with a Hollywood party complete with red carpet. Themed parties can incorporate everything from vivid mushrooms in an Alice in Wonderland theme to exquisite and elegant with simple white spherical balloons.

Children's Play Spaces

T

HE VM+ TEAM ARE EXPERTS at creating unique and stand out children's play areas. Not just your average swing set with a table and chair, they take it to the next level.

VM+ has taken to the task of transforming various vacant tenancies to become adventure lands for children and a haven for parents. Focusing on creating a place of solitude away from the busy shopping areas, VM+ has created one oasis after the other with bright green turf, vivid wall graphics and finished off with greenery and trees galore.

In one tenancy, hanging greenery and vines

from the ceiling was a very purposeful decision to add a sense of depth and create an even more immersive experience. From the view point of children, the ceiling will become a canopy, allowing minds to wander and activate their imaginations. From tropical rainforests to woodland forests, the team has the ability to transform any space into a place of learning and active engagement through colour, texture and props.

Among the turf you will find a gross motor play gym, catering to toddlers and the younger generations so the whole family can get involved in this play area. Smooth edges and different textures make it an active learning space.

In tribute to Australian wildlife, sensory play panels in the shape of a crocodile or caterpillar add to the interactive experience.

Objects such as this take up minimal space but encourage hours of sensory play.

It is the small touches that really transform the space to be a place of adventure. Let shoppers drink in the Christmas ambience and encourage festive purchases through beautiful foliage and twinkling lights.

With tones of copper, champagne and silver, many Brisbane corporate foyers sparkle at Christmas. Not limited to a classic Nordic Christmas tree, Nutcracker soldiers herald the magic of Christmas with their trumpets, greeting passersby, while wreaths and garlands ensure a spectacular display of Christmas joy. With sophistication and professionalism, we bring Christmas to all corporate venues and if foliage isn’t for your foyer, we pride ourselves on creating contemporary custom decorations which ooze innovation.

VM+ creates destinations to be enjoyed by everyone. Colour, movement and light are some elements which inspire our designers to create custom props announcing that the merry season has arrived. If you stumble upon a visual feast of hanging wreaths, glittering disco balls, or a giant rocking horse, you can be sure the VM+ elves have been busy during the night. Transforming public spaces into magical Christmas precincts is what we do best.

We love designing with both the community and surroundings in mind. We’ve been inspired by our enviable beaches for one retailer, creating a contemporary coastal design for the Christmas season. Instilling a relaxed holiday vibe throughout the centre, resort-inspired lush tropical foliage was combined with real sand and natural timber clad elements to provide bold focal points. External Christmas decorations welcome both locals and overseas visitors to shopping precincts and provide fun and interactive photo opportunities.

The Showroom plays a big part in our visual merchandising courses. We pride ourselves in the hands-on nature of our intimate courses. Hosted here in The Showroom, the Intro to VM courses rely on the props on hand to allow our participants to experiment with designs and arrangements.

The Showroom is our central hub where ideas are created, props are located and retail resides. It's a meeting place, a public retail shop and a storage place. It’s the most vibrant, dynamic and ever changing room in the House, one day it's a carnival madhouse, the next we’re hosting our annual garage sale and then before you know it, it's a Christmas wonderland. We’ve ventured across the seas and travelled interstate this past year to collect ideas and bring you our favourite trends this coming Christmas. Let the magic of Christmas 2018 begin!
