HEALTH UNITS ASK FOR MORE MASKING

Dr. Thomas Piggott from Peterborough Public Health has united with two other Ontario public health agencies to send a letter to Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health sharing concern with continued high disease activity, for a temporary province-wide masking mandate to bring down sixth wave transmission.

Dr. Piggott said, “COVID-19 risk continues, and masking remains a key strategy to protect yourself and others.”

Meanwhile, Peterborough Public Health has launched a new dashboard, the Peterborough Region COVID-19 Tracker. This interactive dashboard will merge the COVID-19 Community Risk Index and the previous case and status data from the COVID-19 tracker.

Dr. Piggott reminds residents that it is still very important to follow the Risk Index recommendations. “Transmission in our community has moved to the high level. While this is hopeful that we are seeing transmission start to slow down, we are still seeing high rates of transmission in the ongoing pandemic and precautions continue to be critical.”
