$25,000 FOR RMH

The owner of FLATO Developments Incorporated, Shakir Rehmatullah, knows that to build communities it takes a strong commitment to community service. The FLATO team has plans to develop neighbourhoods in the Lindsay and Cameron areas. To make those neighbourhoods even better, Rehmatullah is enhancing local patient care with a gift to the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Recently, Rehmatullah was joined by City of Kawartha Lakes Mayor Andy Letham outside Ross Memorial Hospital to present a $25,000 donation to Erin Coons, RMH Foundation CEO.

“Here at the Ross, we’re committed to building the future of local healthcare and growing services close to home, and we’re grateful to have community partners such as Shakir Rehmatullah,” said Erin Coons. “This generous gift will support hospital needs including lifesaving technology, patient care equipment and priority projects. We’re pleased to welcome Shakir and his team at FLATO to the community — and to our donor family at the Ross.”

“We recognize and value the importance of keeping our communities healthy and safe, which is why we’re so excited to be supporting Ross Memorial Hospital,” said Shakir Rehmatullah. “When we build communities, we support communities. In Kawartha Lakes, we look forward to continuing to partner with and support community organizations to achieve their goals that will make the community better for everyone.” This is one of FLATO Developments Inc.’s first steps in supporting the residents of the Kawartha Lakes.

BOYER FAMILY HELPS RMH

The Boyer family knows that businesses and communities support each other and grow together. Over the past 40 years, as the Boyers have grown their group of auto dealerships, they’ve taken care to give back to the communities where they work and live by supporting local causes.

Recently, Brandon Boyer and Joe Holtrum of Boyer Chevrolet Lindsay visited Ross Memorial Hospital to support exceptional care with a gift of $2,000 from the Boyer Family Charitable Fund. The donation will help the community purchase a new CT scanner with advanced capabilities.

Computerized Tomography (CT) scanning combines a series of images taken from various angles to create cross-sectional views of a patient’s bones, blood vessels and soft tissues. The Ross Memorial’s CT scanner allows radiologists to confidently diagnose disease and injuries, to provide precise direction for surgeries, and to guide cancer treatments.

At the Ross, the CT team conducts more than 12,000 scans every year. “Supporting the community in which we operate has always been a top priority for my family,” said Brandon Boyer. “We are so lucky to have such a great hospital right here in Lindsay, so we’re happy to support in any way we can!”

“Our local business leaders keep our community strong in so many ways,” said Erin Coons. “This gift from the Boyer Family Charitable Fund will impact patients of all ages, and help keep the best CT imaging right here at home.”

LOCAL BUSINESS HELPS FIREFIGHTERS

Fire Station 12, located in Cameron, was in need of new materials for equipment drying racks and so they approached Naylor Systems, a well-known Canadian company since 1975, to price out the materials.

In response, Wendell Naylor of Naylor Systems generously offered to supply the materials for the station. This included aluminum rails, cables, pulleys and of course the fabric to cover everything.

Captain Richard Bossema the Station 12 Fire Coordinator stated “The rack is a large improvement in how we can hang and dry our gear, hoses and ice/water equipment. We are extremely grateful for Naylor’s generosity. Any assistance to help improve efficiency at our station is a benefit to the entire community and for that, we all thank you.”

Naylor Systems is located at 19 Naylor Road in Cameron and can be seen just off of Highway 36.

The RMH Nutrition Services team is energized to be preparing patient meals in a modernized kitchen -- and exceptionally grateful for the donor support that made extensive renovations possible.

The hospital’s kitchen was part of a $7 million expansion that opened in 1960 and brought the hospital’s bed capacity to 139. While the hospital has grown significantly since then, the kitchen has only seen minor upgrades over the years. This is where the Nutrition Services team prepares approximately 400 inpatient meals every day.

With funding from the RMH Foundation, construction began in the kitchen one year ago and was completed in phases to allow for continued food

preparation for patients. Work included replacing and relocating the vast exhaust hood system with a state-of-the-art system, a new kitchen layout to improve workflow and accommodate new work areas including a hot food preparation area. The kitchen features modern flooring and ceiling materials that are IPAC (Infection Prevention and Control) approved , and a new hand-wash station.

“At the Ross, we believe that food is medicine. Healthy meals help our patients gain their strength and recover from injury or illness,” said Kelly Isfan, RMH President and CEO. “People in the community may never see the hospital’s kitchen, but the work that happens there plays a big role in their care. I’m proud of our Nutrition Services team for persevering during this year of combined challenges with both construction and COVID safety measures impacting the department at the same time. They deserve a modern kitchen space for their top-notch work.”

“Thanks to our generous community, the Foundation is able to help fund the hospital’s priority projects and improve patient care at the Ross,” said Erin Coons, RMH Foundation CEO. “Together with our donors and community partners, we will continue to build the future of local health care and grow services close to home.”

“Our team is so grateful to the Foundation for helping to fund the much-needed kitchen renovation,” said Christine Wood, Nutrition Services Manager. “Once the last phase was complete you could feel the relief — everyone was so happy! When you walk into the department it’s so bright and clean, providing a great working space.”

The RMH Foundation provided $1.25 million toward the almost $1.7 million cost of the kitchen project.

40 YEARS OF COMPASSION: Many of you may recognize this face, and more specifically her distinctive stride. That’s because for 40 years now, she has walked the the same route, morning and night to her shift. Tracy Purdy is in her 40th year of taking care of, reading to, playing spa girl and hair stylist, singing to (although we all know she shouldn’t) to residents at Case Manor. When anyone asks when she will retire, I say until she needs a room there, and even then, who knows. Congratulations on 40 years at Case Manor. Proud
