This past May we celebrated five years of Biologique Recherche in Canada with our first ever national conference held in Toronto. With Biologique Recherche pros from across the country in attendance we introduced several new product innovations, and were joined

by Biologique Recherche co-owners Pierre-Louis Delapalme and Dr. Philippe Allouche. We also launched the Wellness for Cancer program in Canada, which is a global initiative and charity founded by Julie Bach, to educate skin care therapists on the best way to modify treatments and recommend products to those touched by cancer. We are extremely proud to provide this training in Canada and are pleased to announce that there are now therapists from coast-to-coast who have completed the course. We look forward to many more conferences with our Biologique Recherche Canada family in the years to come!

One of the beauty trends that I am most happy to see is the rise of customization in both skin care and cosmetics. This individualized approach (we call it “personalization”) is the very backbone of what we stand for as a company. Person-to-person interaction is different than just adding a name to a label or monogramming a compact - it is about a complete obsession with the client - from the first consultation, through to the procedure itself, and then moving on to a personalized home-care regimen with a focus on the individual’s lifestyle, health, stress level, and personal skin goals. This issue of Living Beauty features a facial adventure in Paris, and the newest launches from our existing brands. And we also introduce you to our newest line, HO KARAN, a French cannabis skin care brand founded to reduce stress for all.

TINA CABLE Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Tina Cable has always been destined for beauty, but she suppressed wanting be an esthetician because at that time it wasn’t considered a professional career. She finished a degree in Biology but couldn’t stop thinking about makeup and was obsessed with learning through YouTube videos and decided to purse what was closest to her heart. Ten Years later, Tina is an accomplished esthetician, makeup artist and beauty influencer with a passion for healthy skin.

Living Beauty Magazine: What is your skin care philosophy?

Tina Cable: My philosophy is to respect the skin.

These days consumers are bombarded with products that disrupt the skin barrier, and they are readily available when they shouldn’t be, which in turn causes too many problems. Be gentle and know that too much of anything will not heal you. A simple 3-step routine could be just as effective as one with seven steps using the right products.

LB: What is your treatment philosophy?

T: I take a non-invasive approach but I like to

teach my clients what to do at home. I spend a

good amount of time listening, talking and explaining to my clients about their skin. Once they have a good grasp then they are able to understand what the products recommended by me will do for them.

LB: What is unique about the people of

Winnipeg and especially your clients?

T: We are very simple, busy people, who want to look put together without effort.

I am exactly that person but I still want to look fresh, whether it’s just with skincare or minimal makeup. I know everyone says they have the best clientele, but I’m not lying, I have the best clientele. I get to know my clients very well during our first appointment. They trust me and are willing to try whatever it is I have to offer.

I understand budgets, and with that, I just want my clients to take care of their skin regardless of what brand they use.

LB: What does anti-aging mean to you?

T: If I can slow down the process with

the use of products and treatments I will definitely do it. I encourage this through non-invasive treatments such as red light therapy to increase collagen production, microcurrent to exercise the muscles, and of course my favourite, facial massage.

Wrinkles, are not a terrible characteristic to have, as Mark Twain says, “Wrinkles merely indicate where smiles have been.” There are external factors that help but our attitude has a lot to do with our skin health. If your good days outweigh your bad days then your face will definitely show it. Being motivated, focused and having goals in life will allow you to have a youthful aura.

LB: You’ve developed a large following

on social media, what advice can you give to other therapists about connecting to others through this medium?

T: Thank you! This has been a process

but it is a great marketing tool and a place to learn. I share a lot of my knowledge on Instagram so that clients can get the same results at home. The best advice for therapists is to fully utilize the app.

Use stories, feed, live stream and IGTV but the trick is to share YOURSELF. Do not share too much of prettiness because it’s not the entire reality. Being authentic and honest is what I do when I’m on the platform. I’m able to create so many connections with my audience in regards to the looks I’ve created, sharing my family and more.

LB: What are some great resources for

skin care therapists to stay updated on the market?

T: For me, the greatest resource has been instagram. I’ve picked up a few skills from fellow facialists on this platform. I’m not all about the gadgets that are always created each year. In my opinion, hands are the best tool to use during a facial.

LB: Why is Biologique Recherche a fit

for your practice?

T: It took me eight months to decide if I wanted to bring Biologique Recherche to Winnipeg. My clientele didn’t know a single thing about the line but I was fully committed to it once I did my research. I was looking for a large skincare line that actually changed people’s skin.

Most of all, the BR facial is so wonderful.

Everyone thinks that massage is just to relax the client or its only meant for the body aches but it’s much more than that.

It makes the skin softer and more pliable.

It tones muscles and delays skin aging.

The manipulations can help deplete excess fluids in the tissues and reduce puffy or sagging areas.

LB: What makes BR unique?

T: I think the biggest difference between

Biologique Recherche and other lines is that it offers products for all skin instants. I’ve never found a line that has helped my clients with their rosacea like this. The extensive line also allows you to change your routine according to daily skin changes and needs. I personally find it boring to use the same serum every day so I now have over five quintessential serums to choose from based on how my skin is that morning or night.

It takes a unique perspective on skin to create the concept of an ever changing skin instant.

Starting with the belief that every individual possesses skin that is ever changing, not just year to year but throughout each and every day, a treatment at the Ambassade de la Beauté in Paris is designed to be highly personalized. Nestled along the famous Avenue des Champs-Élysées, the Biologique Recherche flagship beauty institute welcomes guests into a regal cocoon of light filled rooms complete with glimmering brass accents.

Every treatment begins with a consultation, where the aesthetician can discover specifics about a client’s lifestyle that affect can skin, including the use of medication, depth of stress level, or the avid pursuit of outdoor activities, such as golf or skiing.

Moving on to an in-depth assessment, the Skin Instant Lab diagnosis machine is used to analyze and measure various qualities currently occurring in the skin. Moisture, pigmentation, elasticity, sensitivities and sebum production are all noted and utilized as the basis for a selection of products best suited to the client’s skin at that precise moment. Visual analysis is performed by the Visiolab camera to record the depth of wrinkles, open pores and pigmentation changes.

From there the Initialization Stage commences with deep cleansing and an intensive facial massage. Best described as a workout for the face, the massage designed by co-founder Madame Josette Allouche stimulates the epidermis and facial muscles. It is both extremely relaxing (most clients fall asleep) and incredibly effective (you’ll notice a lifted appearance

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF: Natalie Franz, renowned make-up artist, has worked with talents such as Lady GaGa, Taylor Swift and fashion’s top photographers (Karl Lagerfeld for one). Franz discovered under eye stripes while travelling Japan and she launched her product line MAGICSTRIPES in 2013 and sparked magic into the lives of many busy people worldwide.

The MAGICSTRIPES family includes a selection of signature eye lifting stickers and similarly innovative sheet masks that give quick visible results to a variety skin types and concerns. We caught up with Natalie to see what a busy day looks like in her life!

5:00am My alarm clock goes off early - this way I have time for a quick yoga session that keeps my body fit and my mind clear.

On top of MAGICSTRIPES I work on several other projects. I recently co-founded a charity organisation - Fo(u)r Hearts supports local German institutions that cater to people in need.

10:00am Depending on my schedule, the time before noon is either spent at our MAGICSTRIPES office in Hamburg or on business trips that take me all over the world. I often take part in panel talks or organise press launches.

Travel is also one of my biggest passions. In my free time I never miss the opportunity to discover places I’ve never been to before - it is the best source of inspiration!

5:00pm I typically spend the afternoons with my son Ilija. We share the same interests, which makes our time together truly adventurous. We usually poke around museums, go shopping or spend time in nature.

9:30pm Evening time is my beauty time.
