As The Sarasota Players steps into an exciting new chapter, we find ourselves at a powerful moment of reflection and possibility. With new leadership and an energized Board of Directors who bring both deep roots and fresh perspective, we are standing at the threshold of a renewed vision, one that honors our past while boldly shaping our future As Artistic Director, I am incredibly proud and excited to help guide this next era as we move toward an extraordinary milestone: 100 years as Sarasota’s oldest theatre.
Our focus is clear We are committed to strengthening our mission and investing in what has always made The Sarasota Players special. At our heart, we are not simply a building or a stage, we are a community A community of artists, students, educators, volunteers, audiences, and supporters who believe in the power of storytelling and the transformative impact of theatre and theatre education. What does freedom feel like? What does patriotism look like? What does democracy sound like?
Sondheim and Weidman’s musical, ASSASSINS, triggers these existential questions, realizing that historically, sociologically, politically, and ideologically, the stars and stripes do not always align for every American citizen. For some, the pursuit of the star-spangled American Dream is a constellation of compromises, sacrifices, and empty promises. This is why the common man or woman takes up a gun and tries to change the course of history Nobody can hear the anthem clearly anymore because of the deafening sound of bleeding hearts, bullets, bloody ears, and the bellowing of a country divided.
Set in an anachronistic, surreal carnival limbo and with a score resonating with the history of American music, ASSASSINS explores these determined, but somewhat deranged individuals and their desperate, selfrighteous, and oftentimes futile attempts to change the world, win a prize, and gain notoriety

Jason Ellis (The Balladeer) previous roles at the former Banana Republic include Rooster [Annie], “Emcee” [Cabaret], Cinderella’s Prince/The Wolf [Into the Woods], and Johnny [American Idiot]. By day he pays the theatre’s bills and prepares this almost 100-year-old Sarasota staple for its new home at Payne Park. Brian F. Finnerty (The Proprietor/Scenic Designer) is a theatre artist and educator with over 25 years of experience. He’s won numerous awards including Herald-Tribune Handy Awards and BroadwayWorld Awards for Best Costume Design, Best Scenic Design, Best Choreography, and Best Musical. Brian attended Point Park University's Conservatory for Performing Arts and Booker High's VPA Program, where he first met Sarasota’s #1 lover of trunks, ladders, balloons, and umbrellas, H. Scott Keys.
Brian is the Production Manager for The Sarasota Players and The Players Studio. Favorite performing credits include: The Addams Family (Gomez), Singin’ in the Rain (Cosmo), Beauty & the Beast (LeFou), Chicago (Billy Flynn), and Reefer Madness (The Lecturer).
Brian would be a big ol’ nothing without his queen of a wife, Amanda and their cats, Stanley and Queenie. Thanks to Scott, Josh, Carl and the team for getting me back onstage. ❤ @bxfinn
Craig Weiskerger (John Wilkes Booth) is thrilled to return to The Sarasota Players after a 10 year absence. Past roles include Little Shop of Horrors (Seymour), The Producers (Leo Bloom) and Parade (Leo Frank). He’s grateful to work with Scott and with this incredible cast to tell such a bold, compelling story. “Much love to Heather and my miniature schnauzer Loki, my mischievous life coach”
Ben Tschirgi (Leon Czolgosz) is thrilled to make his debut with The Sarasota Players in one of his all time favorite shows, Assassins. Previous credits include Prior Walter in Angels in America and Orpheus in Metamorphoses He thanks his partner for their love and support and for reminding him that everybody’s got the right to their dreams. Ben is currently developing an autobiographical one person acoustic musical.
Jose Santana (Giuseppe Zangara) Recent credits include Angel (Rent), Riff Raff (Rocky Horror), and The Witch (Into the Woods), as well as Narrator (Joseph…) and Ms. Pennywise (Urinetown). They are thankful for the support of friends, family, and mentors, and appreciate the opportunity to be part of this production.
Dylan Lack (Samuel Byck) is thrilled to make his Sarasota Players MainStage debut in Assassins. Previous credits include Joe in The Spitfire Grill with Venice Theatre and Shakespeare in Something Rotten with MPAC. He received his BFA in Acting from West Virginia University in 2018, where he first had the opportunity to play Byck This is a role near and dear to his heart and he's grateful to Scott for giving him another crack at it. Angry men don't write the rules and guns don't right the wrongs!
Kevin Moroney (John Hinckley Jr.) is beyond thrilled to be playing the part of John Hinckley Jr. in this “killer” production of Assassins! He is grateful for the opportunity to challenge himself as a performer in this show. Recent productions Kevin has been in include Into the Woods (Milky White), Happy Endings Wedding Chapel (Paolo Vannucci), The Wedding Singer (Sammy), West Side Story (Officer Krupke), and Rent (Ensemble) Jodie if you’re reading this I hope you think I’m cool now
Bryan Rodin (Charles Guiteau) is so thrilled to be a part of his second production at the Sarasota Players, and is proud to be a part of such an incredible cast! By day, he is the Director of Bands at Booker Middle School and teaches students in grades 6-8 to play woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Bryan is also an avid knitter and fiber artist in his spare time. He would like to give a big thank you to his friends, colleagues, and especially to his parents for always believing in him. Thank you!
Caitlin Ellis (Lynette “Squeaky” Formme) is excited to be back onstage at The Players! Earlier this season she could be seen behindthe-scenes, stage managing Annie and co-directing Sleepy Hollow with her husband. Other onstage credits at The Players include Into the Woods (Cinderella), American Idiot (Whatsername), The Secret Garden (Martha), and Head Over Heels (Mopsa). Love to Jas, Mia, and Jimmy.
Michelle Anaya (Sara Jane Moore) received her Bachelor of Music and Business from Kent State University. Favorite previous roles include Kate (Kiss Me Kate), Edie Beale (Grey Gardens), Lady of the Lake (Spamalot), Amalia (She Loves Me), Julie (Carousel), and Mabel (Pirates of Penzance). Michelle thanks her friends for their love and support, especially Vedran for taking care of all the foster dogs while she's in rehearsal!
Cory Woomert (Ensemble) has been performing on local stages since childhood, bringing both heart and passion to every role he takes on. He has had the opportunity to play many of his dream roles, including Bobby in Company, the Baker in Into the Woods, Shrek in Shrek the Musical, and the Dentist in Little Shop of Horrors, among many others. In addition to theatre, Cory is a lead vocalist with the band at Harvest Church, performing regularly at services and community events such as Diverse Fest and Gulf Coast Pride Offstage, he is the proud dad of two incredible young performers, his sons Judah and Asher. Thank you to Darah and the boys for their constant love and support.
Rebeca Arrigall-Watkins (Ensemble) is thrilled to be back at Players for another stellar production! She has recently been seen as Little Red (Into the Woods) and Gertrude (Seussical). When not performing, Rebeca can be found directing at Cardinal Mooney and The Players Studio, playing with her dog, or rewatching Glee! Rebeca is so grateful to work with such talented performers and creatives and thanks them all for inspiring her every day. Much love to her family, friends and students for their support! Juwan Rivas (Ensemble) is very excited to be making his third appearance at The Sarasota Players. He has previously been seen in Annie (Drake/Ensemble) and The Wedding Singer (Ensemble) Juwan is grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a dedicated and loving community. He is especially proud of the hard work that the entire cast have poured into bringing this production to life, and he hopes everyone enjoys the show.
Debbi White (Ensemble) is excited to return to the Sarasota Players. Debbi has been active in local theatre in all aspects for many years, including roles in Head Over Heels and The Sound of Music, and Music Direction of Les Miserables and Sweeney Todd When not on stage, she is singing at a local church. Zachary Sullivan (Ensemble) This is Zach's first show with the Sarasota Players. He hails from Massachusetts and is attending Ringling College of Art & Design as an Entertainment Designer. He hopes you enjoy the show!
Jennifer Baker (Ensemble) is grateful to return to The Players for this special opportunity to share the stage with her son (Braden) for the 1st time! Braden Baker (Ensemble/Boy/Billy) is in 7th grade at Out of Door Academy and is ecstatic to be a part of this amazing cast. He has been performing since he was 5, and is an excellent piano player! He has been in many shows at The Sarasota Players (The Lightning Thief, Into the Woods, Jr., 13 the Musical, Matilda, and more)! Braden would like to thank Scott for this awesome opportunity to do his first show with his mom (Jennifer)! Special thanks to his family, friends, and teachers for their constant love and support.

Scott Keys (Director) is a freelance director and theatre educator based in Sarasota. Previous productions for Players include Falsettos, Fun Home, Some Enchanted Evening, Godspell, Ruthless, and on-stage appearances in Side By Side By Sondheim and Into the Woods. Other recent directing credits include A Year with Frog & Toad (Asolo); The Mousetrap, Honky Tonk Laundry, Up on the Roof (Venice Theatre); Parade ( MPAC) He served as Interim Artistic Director for Sarasota Players in 2022 and currently sits on the Board of Trustees. Scott was Chair of the Booker VPA Theatre department for over two decades and received The Distinguished Career for Arts Education from The Florida Theatre Conference. He holds a BFA from Syracuse University and an MFA from NYU-Tisch School of the Arts. He is also a published playwright/lyricist/composer and has had his work produced from New York to California as well as internationally
Josh Roberson (Stage Manager) is excited to be Stage Managing Assassins at The Sarasota Players. Josh holds a BFA in Theatre from Texas State University. Previous production credits include: RENT (Asst. Dir/Stage Manager, Sarasota Players), Heathers (Asst Choreographer, Stagedoor Manor), Assassins (Choreographer, SDM), The Old Man & The Old Moon (Asst. Choreographer, SDM), The Rocky Horror Show (Dir., TXST), Into the Woods (Asst Dir , TXST), The International Stud from Torch Song Trilogy (Dir., TXST), and Teen Dad (Asst. Dir., TXST). You may have also seen Josh performing locally as Eddie in The Rocky Horror Show (Venice Theatre) and Bobby in Cabaret (Sarasota Players) Josh hopes to one day open a pizzeria dinner theatre with his boyfriend, Ashton. Carl Haan (Musical Director) is a pianist/musical director/vocal coach originally from Chicago who relocated to the Sarasota area after 18 years in NYC. He has performed on Broadway: Lestat, Broadway Backwards; OffBroadway: Five Course Love, Miracle Brothers, Character Man, at Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center. He has also toured across the U.S. and Canada as asst. conductor with the Cameron Mackintosh UK production of My Fair Lady, played all over Chicago, was nominated for a Jeff for his musical direction of Nine at Circle Theater, and sailed for Second City on Norwegian Cruise Line This is his 3rd show here at The Players after Fun Home & Ruthless Other Sarasota credits include Fiddler on the Roof, Frog & Toad, Jesus Christ Superstar, Beautiful, 12 Angry Men: The Musical, Crazy for You, Man of La Mancha & Cabaret at Asolo Rep & Purlie at West Coast Black Theater. He is also a company pianist for the Sarasota Ballet, but he is most proud of his years teaching at NYU/CAP 21, Wagner College, and Rosie’s Theater Kids. Huge thanks to Felicia & big love to Tugba!!! Jill C. Rodriguez (Costume Designer) joined The Players in April 2025, assuming the roles of Costume Shop Manager and Costume Designer. Her professional background includes extensive experience in costume design, costume shop management, and a love for vintage and historical costuming with a twist This is her first show working with the infamous Scott Keys! She has really enjoyed the support and collaboration that Scott has given her, as well as the freedom to interpret his vision. Notable design and builds for The Players during the 96th season- Beetlejuice Jr, The Little Mermaid Jr, Metamorphoses, Happy Endings Wedding Chapel, Les Mis School Edition, Annie, Wedding Singer, Sleepy Hollow, The Crucible and the 20252026 season for Sarasota Jewish Theatre. Beyond her work within the costume shop she can be found engaging in various professional dance and character entertainment activities throughout the Tampa Bay area
Chris Caswell (Assistant Director) has performed in leading roles in musicals and dramas in the Sarasota area for over 45 years but is happy that Scott Keys has allowed me to tag along with this incredible cast in this unusual and powerful show. Having performed in numerous Sondheim musicals, I am happy to leave the memorization and difficult rhythms to these talented souls.
