The Place is a multi-functional arts and community space in the heart of Newport City Centre. Originally the Old Post office and underneath the iconic Ritzys Nightclub, the building has been transformed by Tin Shed Theatre Co and a number of artists and organisations, The Place has been developed through lengthy community consultation and seeks to provide a city centre creative space like no other.

Every Sunday morning (weather dependent) we will meet for step into summer Wellbeing Walks at various locations across Newport city for two hours, guided by Katie and ideas generated together as a group to discover and enjoy local places. We also have pit stops and sketch the view or grab a cuppa tea. We may also play with dopamine dressing and choosing colourful clothing items to brighten the day! THE LAST POST
Inspired by the company’s current home, ‘The Last Post’ is a community creative regeneration and place making project that seeks to interrogate the history of their current building ‘ The Place’ as well as the much loved Post Office and Night Club.
The Last Post will be an intergenerational and durational project co-created by the local community, exploring the stories that exist across the city that are linked to the buildings & the famous Night time economy of Ritzys nightclub.

‘The Place’ is located at the heart of Newport City Centre. The multi-functional art and community space, has been transformed by Tin Shed Theatre Co and a number of artists and organisations. We host regular events, run projects throughout the year, hold regular social meet ups and creative workshops.

Tin Shed Theatre Co is a theatrical company of freelance artists, makers and creative innovators specialising in arts activity and creative outreach provision in Wales. The company seek to connect communities through creative activation in outdoor locations, publicly populated space, heritage sites and structures.
The company has over 15 years of experience creating large scale, site-responsive theatrical works. To date TSTC has developed multiple outreach provisions and partners, connecting disparate communities to form lasting intergenerational and cultural relationships.
“We are inspired by the atmosphere and connectivity of live theatre, we make outdoor performances that blend classic iconography with neon light. Through this work, we introduce ourselves to communities and encourage them to be bold and brave by inviting them to work closely with us and alongside us.
At its heart, our work is an ambition to tell stories, and these differ from project to project and place to place. However, what is constant is our ambition to locate ourselves in unusual spaces and collaborate with the brilliant and unique local and international artists, creating bold new work that could be a large scale sitespecific, immersive performance, or an intimate, chat on a park bench”
