The Place is a multi-functional arts and community space in the heart of Newport City Centre. Originally the Old Post office and underneath the iconic Ritzys Nightclub, the building has been transformed by Tin Shed Theatre Co and a number of artists and organisations, The Place has been developed through lengthy community consultation and seeks to provide a city centre creative space like no other.

A Figure of Speech is a story of the thrills, peculiarities, cringes and revelations of legally taking your clothes off in front of rooms of people who want to draw you.
Tracing Steph’s decade-long journey of modelling for art classes, she invites audiences to participate, providing materials (and a quick tutorial) for you to draw her at illustrative moments of the performance.

Finding the incident report provided inadequate to explain the reason for his visit, Ryan begins to reflect on the course his life has taken over the past six months following the unexpected departure of his older brother.

Be a part of creating and engaging with Newports powerful history as, in the run up to the iconic Torchlit March on the 2nd of November, Newport rising will host a willow workshop to create an art installation that will be displayed as part of their festivities. You will be creating the main structure while learning more about the history of the chartists. Your creation will be on display in the place for visitors to add to throughout the week. Be part of this inspiring, evolving project. Suitable for all skill levels.

THE BREAKDOWN EXHIBITION
In this comic but sometimes dark art installation, artist 1127 explores the artist's journey through his life in Newport, addiction and mental health struggles offering an immersive glimpse into an often-hidden reality.

Tin Shed Theatre Co is a theatrical company of freelance artists, makers and creative innovators specialising in arts activity and creative outreach provision in Wales. The company seek to connect communities through creative activation in outdoor locations, publicly populated space, heritage sites and structures.
The company has over 15 years of experience creating large scale, site-responsive theatrical works. To date TSTC has developed multiple outreach provisions and partners, connecting disparate communities to form lasting intergenerational and cultural relationships.

Through this work, we introduce ourselves to communities and encourage them to be bold and brave by inviting them to work closely with us and alongside us.

DEATH CAFE
At a Death Cafe people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. Our objective is 'to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives'.
A Death Cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session.

ADVANCE CARE PLANNING WORKSHOP
Lezley, a member of Off the Twig and a Soul Midwife, will be holding an Advanced Care Planning workshop, setting out steps that we can all take towards end-of- life care planning. The workshop will help to demystify and enable our families to better understand what we would like. She will explain the legalities of forms which cover financial and medical choices and which give others a voice on our behalf when we are unable to make those choices ourselves.

THE END OF THE ROAD SHOW OFF THE TWIG
The End of the Road is an interactive performance about death and dying, inspired by a series of honest and heartfelt conversations with volunteers who generously shared their stories, reflections and wishes about their own death and those of the people they love. The show blends storytelling, poetry, sound and ritual to create an informative and empowering exploration of end of life planning that is full of warmth, wit and humanity. You are welcome to stay after the show for an open conversation with the team for anything you wish to share.
