THE PLACE NEWPORT The Place is a multi-functional arts and community space in the heart of Newport City Centre.

Originally the Old Post office and underneath the iconic Ritzys Nightclub, the building has been transformed by Tin Shed Theatre Co and a number of artists and organisations, The Place has been developed through lengthy community consultation and seeks to provide a city centre creative space like no other.

WELLBEING WALKS Every Sunday we will meet at The Allotment and walk together for wellbeing (weather dependent) with themes including dopamine dressing - wearing a colourful item of clothing for cheerfulness and to brighten up the day! We will also play with our phone cameras - taking DIY photography of things we see along the path - and with sketchbooks, if you prefer to draw, we can pit stop en route to discover small moments of wonder!

QI GONG Qigong is a general term for slow moving exercises that unify mind, body and breath for deep relaxation and general wellbeing. Each class will include exercises to help loosen and relax the mind and body.

Maintaining an appropriate balance between activity and rest is crucial at this time of year. As we see in nature, winter is a time for us to slow down, restore and conserve our energy in preparation for the year ahead.

MOSCOW LOVE STORY Moscow 2001. Putin has just come to power and the capital of old Soviet Russia is in the grip of a rampant young capitalism ...

In this early working, the anarchic streets of Moscow are brought back to life 20 years later, using original audio cassette diaries made on a Walkman.

These diaries tell of an unlikely romance that blooms through crazy Russian pub crawls, police arrests and blood contracts made with broken vodka bottles.

Moscow Love Story is a tale of excess, transgression, of going too far... and what we do with those memories when the pulse of life returns to a normal beat.

HATCH YOUTH THEATRE PRESENT: THE PERIODICALS BY SIAN OWEN Set in the near future - a group of young people live as a feral group of techno-savvy fugitives, living off-the land which is a rubbish dump. They stay out of sight of the authorities - particularly the education authorities who are desperate to get them back into school because the optics are not good.

However school has lost its allure. When the young people are in school they are overlooked and underestimated - seen as being more trouble than they are worth. So now, for this group, school’s out forever.

This live rehearsal is performed by members of the Hatch Youth Theatre as part of National Theatre Connections 2024.

Directed by Cassidy Smith with the support of The Riverfront Theatre & Tin Shed Theatre Co. DEATH CAFE At a Death Cafe people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. Our objective is ‘to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives’. A Death Cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session.

I use my raw emotions through mixed media, abstract art and videography exploring my wonderful chaotic journey of Motherhood and Language Deprivation in Deaf community.

MAHTAB GRIMSHAW Mahtab is a British/Iranian multidisciplinary artist with a 1st class (B.A.) degree in Puppetry Theatre from the Division of Fine Arts, University of Tehran, followed by a 1st class (M.A.) degree in Drama & Literature. Her puppet making skill has been adapted to making static female figures and sculptures after immigration.

Sara Hartel (they/them) is a theatre maker and movement artist based near Cardiff. Their main focus lies in immersive and interactive theatre that blurs the boundaries between performance and life gaming. They have worked as a director, performer, playwright and game developer with companies such as National Theatre Wales, Hijinx Theatre, S4C and many more.

Tim Martin-Jones is a performance artist based in Cardiff, working through a practice that focuses on the lived experiences of body chaos, darkness, and mimesis. Outside of the arts, he has worked extensively within widening access provisions. He is a member of Welsh performance collective SCORE, and he has performed internationally.

‘We are Alex Morton and Myles Mac Donald. We use Juggling, Object theatre, Movement, Set design and Physical Theatre to create immersive works of surreal storytelling. Inspired by our mutual love for sculpture and cinema, we are interested in exploring the potential that juggling and object manipulation has to create a clear and evocative physical language of its own. Our creative partnership is born from 3 years of studying together at The National Centre for Circus Arts where it became clear that our playful and curious approaches to performance making complimented each other comfortably.’

JO & SONIA Jo Fong and Sonia Hughes have worked together on several projects including Wallflower and Entitled for Quarantine, Ways of Being Together, and The Kitchen Table research as part of Jo’s Creative Wales Award Project 2017. Jo and Sonia also contributed to National Theatre Wales’ and Quarantine’s co-production for Festival of Voice 2018.

Rufus’ Experimentica22 residency brought us Battles of the Bluejay, an interactive instillation with contemporary storytelling crossing over into Psychiatry & women’s rights.

Marion is a multi-disciplinary artist with a socially-engaged practice, using drawing, paint, mixed media, textiles, and sound.

My practice explores nostalgia, human’s relationship with the natural world, and the power of participation. My work often materialises installations, murals, costumes and interactive sculpture, where viewers are invited to enter an imagined reality. I’m interested in breaking down traditional boundaries between spectator and creator, by creating a collaborative space.

I am a theatre-maker with a passion towards clowning and satire, using elements of political theatre to address inequalities in society. My work is provocative and brings an awareness of culturally relevant topics and aims to engage and connect with audiences. On a personal level my work is a protest.

Rwy’n wneuthurwr theatr sy’n frwd dros glownio a dychan, gan ddefnyddio elfennau o theatr wleidyddol i fynd i’r afael ag anghydraddoldebau mewn cymdeithas. Mae fy ngwaith yn bryfoclyd ac yn dod ag ymwybyddiaeth o bynciau sy’n berthnasol yn ddiwylliannol ac yn anelu at ymgysylltu a chysylltu a chynulleidfaoedd. Ar lefel bersonol protest yw fy ngwaith.

TAMAR WILLIAMS Tamar Eluned Williams is a storyteller and writer working in Welsh and English. She has told stories in schools, festivals, theatres, pubs, forests, and on the top deck of the number 45 bus in Birmingham. She takes hold of mythology, folklore, and legend to create new work for contemporary audiences.

Mae Tamar Eluned Williams yn storiwr ac yn awdur sy’n gweithio yn y Gymraeg a’r Saesneg. Mae hi wedi adrodd straeon mewn ysgolion, gwyliau, theatrau, tafarndai, coedwigoedd, ac ar ddec uchaf bws rhif 45 yn Birmingham.
