LETTERFROM THEEDI TOR Something I never anticipated when I rst launched my Photoshop Artistry course (and later the advanced “AWAKE” group, whose artists create all the amazing artwork in this magazine each month) — was just how closely it would bring us together. And I certainly never anticipated how much GOOD we would be able to do in the world. But recently we saw the fruition of a particularly awesome project set in motion a year ago. As a group, and through pursuing the betterment of our artists, we managed to fund the excavation of a deep fresh water well in remote Tanzania. Partnering with the Care For Africa Foundation (the alliance orchestrated by AWAKE artist Dean Hohn), we at last got to see the initiative come together … And now, today, we have this incredible fresh water well in place, capable of supporting an entire community.
Because of this well, this community can now build a school and become a hub of learning and prosperity in its region, giving the children here future hopes beyond their former imagining. It really does make that kind of a difference. Might not change the world … but it HAS changed the world for these children. And this is just one initiative we’ve set in motion. There are so many great deeds ahead. I already see a dazzling array of adventures in our future, and so many amazing acts of hope and inspiration we can bring to life as our artists come together from all over the world and channel the power of their creativity and art to the task of enacting lasting change. It’s amazing really. And know what’s especially exciting?
We took a hopeful dream, and we made it a reality. Together. As a result, we now have the pride and excitement of knowing that we have truly engineered a major lasting change for dozens and dozens of families who until now were living in the most abject and desperate conditions. Because of this well, the women of this community no longer need to devote enormous amounts of time and effort walking great distances just to bring back enough water for the village to survive. Because of this well, the children no longer need to spend their days foraging with rusty cans for water found in dirty puddles.
