Dear Friends,

As a Valentine’s Day heart to Philly, we just announced our 2020-2021 Bright Lights! Big City! season, which is full of exciting new shows we know you’re going to love. We are also thrilled to announce that David Charles Abell has been appointed Music Director and Principal Conductor. David has been with the POPS since 2013, serving as Principal Guest Conductor since 2017. We’re all looking forward to his tribute to Oscar Hammerstein in April!
This weekend’s series ARETHA: Respect celebrates the legacy of the Queen of Soul. While you’re waiting for the show to start, be sure to read our interview with POPS Artistic Director for Jazz, Terell Stafford, who met and played with Aretha multiple times in his life, once with ARETHA’s guest conductor, Byron Stripling.

Finally, we have another stellar performance lined up for next month: POPS Rocks Phil Collins with our favorite rocker, conductor Stuart Chafetz! He started his career as a drummer; he’s created this original program for his idol, the top selling rock drummer of all time.

It’s always a treat to see you at the POPS!
Frank Giordano, President and CEO Encore Series, Inc., The Philly POPS
