The Perfect World Foundation Award - Art Catalogue

Page 1

Welcome!

Amazed by biodiversity and our love for animals and nature, combined with the fear of losing these invaluable treasures, motivated us to found The Perfect World Foundation with a mission to bring hope and find solutions. By the year 2050, almost 70% of the world’s population is predicted to be living in urban areas, far from nature, and may never have the opportunity to experience wildlife such as elephants, koalas, sloths, rhinos, beluga whales and giraffes in their natural environment. Among this urban population, we’ll find the major decision makers who will shape our future, and that of our planet. To raise awareness among these people and the next generation including influencers, artists and politicians, our The Perfect World Foundation Award serves an important purpose. The award recipients, with their knowledge, voices, and shared passion to save our planet, serve as our extended link in spreading awareness and shedding light on lifechanging matters, that affect us all. We firmly believe that each, and every one of us holds the power to change the world. No one is, nor can be, perfect but we believe that everyone can take one step, make one small action, and contribute to a perfect world. It’s important to remember and remind each other that every action matters. Our health is dependent on a healthy planet. Let us all work together to protect our paradise. Every day, presents a new opportunity to make better choices.

And remember, always keep animals and nature in mind.

The award

The Perfect World Foundation Award was established in 2014 as an extension of The Perfect World Foundation. The award is annually bestowed upon a person who has made significant impact on their mission to save our natural world, and perhaps most importantly, has used their voice to spread awareness. Today, the award is considered one of the most prestigious conservation awards in the world.

“The award recipients, with their knowledge, voices, and shared passion to save our planet, serve as our extended link in spreading awareness and shedding light on lifechanging matters, that affect us all. But their message is also a beacon of hope. Hope that if we all engage, we have the power to change the world,” says Ragnhild ‘Rags’ Jacobsson, CEO and Co-founder of The Perfect World Foundation.

Over the years the award has been received by world-renowned nature program broadcaster and zoologist Sir David Attenborough, the world’s leading chimpanzee expert Dr. Jane Goodall, the foremost female marine biologist and oceanographer of our time Dr. Sylvia Earle, anthropologist and wildlife conservationist Dr. Richard Leakey, environmental and climate activist Miss Greta Thunberg, environmentalist and philanthropist Prince Albert II of Monaco, and philanthropist Ms. Kristin Davis. Among the award recipients who have been bestowed for their legacy, and the award received by their still active organizations are the leading gorilla expert Dr. Dian Fossey, 2004 Nobel Prize winner and environmental activist Prof. Wangari Maathai, and elephant conservationist Mr. Mark Shand.

“It has been an enormous honour to present our award statuette to all these remarkable people who are fighting for a better world and a better future,” says Lars Jacobsson, Co-founder and Chairman of The Perfect World Foundation.

The Perfect World Foundation Award’s crystal award statuette was designed using the rhino to represent the rapid extinction of wild animals, and the crystal symbolize how fragile our planet’s wildlife is, especially in the face of human impact. Each statuette is uniquely designed, and handmade by Swedish Orrefors, Kosta Boda, one of the world’s most famous and historic glass design and glassblowing companies dating back to 1742.

The founders

The Perfect World Foundation was established during the early 2000s by Lars and Ragnhild ‘Rags’ Jacobsson and became an official non-profit organization in 2010. The origin of the foundation was the couple’s personal commitment, for many years, they visited and supported animal and environmental projects worldwide. They aimed to ensure that their donations were used as effectively as possible. However, as the need for support grew massively over the years due to more species facing the threat of extinction and larger areas of nature being endangered by human interference, the Jacobsons realized they could no longer provide all the required resources for the projects alone. In light of this, they decided to establish the organization to make it attractive for others to support and contribute. In addition to their continuous donations, they also committed to bearing the administrative costs for as long as they are able, and they have no intention of taking any compensation for their own work.

Our planet’s wild animals and nature face a variety of threats. The Perfect World Foundation continues its mission to identify these threats, spread knowledge, and secure the resources needed to address these challenges. The list of issues is extensive, ranging from poaching and wildlife trade, threats to biodiversity due to habitat loss, chemical usage, pollution, burning of fossil fuels leading to extreme weather events, droughts, wildfires, floods, coral bleaching, to acidification of our oceans. Throughout the years, the organization has been involved in numerous animal and nature projects, including rhinos, elephants, whales, manta ray, lions, koalas, sun bears, turtles, coral reefs, tree planting, the development of new environmental and climate technologies, and much more.

“We hope that through our work, we can inspire many ordinary people, just like ourselves, to get involved and want to support the organization’s mission to help wild animals and nature, preserving our paradise for future generations”, Ragnhild and Lars Jacobsson, founders of The Perfect World Foundation.
