“Not only do we celebrate it but DPWMD is something practiced around the whole world,” senior performer Darren Reyes said. “I really like how that’s a connection between people.”
Students, staff and parents were welcomed to attend the performance on Oct. 28, which celebrates the late journalist Daniel Pearl’s love for music and arts. With a list of 15 songs to perform like “I Just Want To Celebrate,” “La Bamba” and “Dancing Queen,” the Daniel Pearl Magnet High School band
‘In Bloom’ and choir blended with the crowd who sang alongside them. “When I started, (DPWMD) was more about spreading peace, love and all that,” senior keyboardist and singer Jason Echeverría said. “Now, we’re starting to convert it more into partying and celebrating.”
With the room filled with nostalgia and applause, the musicians look back on all their performances and friendships with their arms hung over each others’ shoulders. These are bonds that many performers will cherish undoubtedly. “Unforgettable,” senior ukulelist and singer Andi Mendoza said.

“Well last year, I did it because it was part of the cultural lesson and I just thought it would be educational for the entire community to take it outside,” Rodriguez said.
“It's just something small but it's something meaningful. In the end, it brought the whole school together and creates more of that community slash family environment that Daniel Pearl is constantly striving for,” senior ASB president Bianca Lam said.
