Get Lit poets set stage ablaze with poetic passion Jade Ajileye Staff Writer

Rushing and filing into the multi purpose room at break speed, students’ ears are greeted by Chance the Rapper’s song “No Problem.”

Over the loud music and excited murmurs, english teacher Ron Baer goes up to the mic and tries to quell all of the noise.

“The poets you are going to see, they are not professionals,” Baer said. “They are high school students just like you.”

The Get Lit: Words Ignite Players are young poets apart of the non-profit organization that aims to promote literacy worldwide. Each year, they visit different high schools and perform their riveting and heart stopping poems in order to recruit new aspiring poets to their cause. On Nov. 30, host and advisor Paul Mabon brought new players to showcase their work and tell their stories.

“As always they were breathtaking and never failed to surprise me,” junior Emely Felix said. “I got chills, I can’t even put it to words.”

Poet Claire Oldham delivered a philosophical piece called “Girl Named Anything” that was just as fiery as her hair.

Cyrus Roberts recited his introspective response poem titled “My Odyssey” in response to the classic “Odysseus’s Secret” by Stephen Dunn. Returning member Khamal Iwaunyanwu gave a theatrical rendition of Jill Scott’s love poem “Selfish.”

Lastly, player Juliana Judge recited a verse from the Book of Proverbs before giving

her crazy and witty performance of her response poem titled “I’ll Open Jars for You.”

“I thought it was really good,” freshman Miko Martinez said. “The performances all had themes of of social justice but also were humorous at the same time.”

After the Get Lit players finished their awe-inspiring pieces, Mabon left the stage open to any students or staff who wanted to display their talent and share their personal stories. Baer performed an original and tear jerking piece about his family titled “My Brother Martin.” Past Get Lit members such as Kamryne Blake, Felix and David Palacios also took to the stage to express their emotions and deliver their compelling verses.

As Baer recruits his new team of poets on Dec. 11, aspiring students now have a new source of inspiration and ideas to look to. The players left advice dealing with writing poetry such as being true to yourself, putting yourself out there and treating the open mic like therapy. All of the visiting Get Lit players have won awards or recognition for their poetry, with Iwaunyanwu being the highest scoring poet of 2016 at the Get Lit Classic Slam that takes place every year.

“When dealing with a classic you want to convince the audience you wrote the poem,” Iwaunyanwu said.”

Girls Build Leadership Summit fosters positive change Elizabeth Cortez and Maria Ruiz Staff Writers

As passionate follower of the women’s rights movement, sophomore Nicole Gabino was overjoyed to learn that she was one of the 100 students chosen to go to the Girls Build Leadership Summit on Dec. 15.

“I was very excited,” Gabino said.

“It’s helping with women’s issues and it will be a really nice experience.”

The Girls Build Leadership Summit will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center with Mitu co-founder Beatriz Acevedo, marketing executive Tara Deveaux and Senator Kamala Harris are among many of the remarkable women who will be speaking at the event. Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of State and ex-presidential candidate, will be the keynote speaker. Clinton embodies a lot of this program’s purpose; therefore the LA Promise Fund is extremely honored for her to take part in this journey.

“It’s really amazing because she is always fighting for women’s rights,” Gabino said. “Seeing her in person and her speaking will be a huge honor.”

The LA Promise Fund created the program Girls Build hoping to raise awareness of the numerous obstacles

women face to succeed in this society.

They empower girls from public middle and high schools by challenging them to use STEM principles and the 21st century curriculum to effect social change.

To join Girls Build, aspiring young women are asked to identify an issue they face and to come up with an effective solution that would create a positive change in their community. Then the LA Promise Fund gathers 50 teams to compete by creating a website, developing social media campaigns and using professional communication tools to address an issue they wish to change. Six winning teams are awarded with $50,000 in college scholarships.

“I was super excited,” math teacher Leslie Hicks said. “What I’m hoping is that we have this shared experience and that we all have a little bit of fun. I’m hoping we have a little feeling of hope.”

Unfortunately, the 100 selected student representatives will not be competing this time around. School administrators believed to have applied to Girls Build but were not sure as to which application had been submitted. Within just 36 days of each other, two out of the five deadliest shootings in the U.S. took place, sparking a larger argument on gun control and campus safety throughout the nation. Despite these shootings, many students feel safe at school.

Sandy Hooks, Columbine, Aurora Movie Theatre and Las Vegas. All of these places have one thing in common. Multiple lives ended by an active shooter.

This year, there have been so many tragedies involving the abuse of high powered weaponry that, as a country, we need to address. Weapons that are usually found in the hands of law enforcement have been found in the homes of domestic terrorists. Military grade rifles should not be in the possession of civilians. Especially those who present a clear and present danger to themselves and others.

Amongst all of the outrage over the accessibility of guns, I always hear one argument. “Guns don’t kill people. People kill people.” I then wonder why this country is offering the tools for those certain people to do so.

At a time like this it is apparent that this country needs more strict gun laws, so we can keep people safe and avoid tragedies like the ones we’ve had to live through recently.

It seems that after every mass shooting, gun control acts are discussed but never followed through. It’s as if after a short period of time people forget about the horrid event and move on. I don’t want to wait for another incident to occur for reforms to be put into place.

The more disasters we witness, the more desensitized we become.

Whenever there’s a gun related death, the gun is held responsible rather than the person. There’s a word association occurring which is due to metonymy.

Essentially, guns don’t make up the minds of those holding them. Guns don’t whisper commands to shooters and guns don’t dictate their victims, should there be any. Guns don’t kill people. People kill people.

According to “The Great Gun Control Fallacy” (2012) by Thomas Sowell, the murder rate in this country has decreased despite gun ownership doubling in the past century. Guns and gun control have no influence over this.

Despite the legal action taken to ensure that guns stay out of the people’s hands, even those law-abiding citizens who use them for sport, murder rates have all the more to do with the person than the weapon.

According to the National Rifle Association (NRA), over two million people use rifles for self defense across the country, which is the intended effect.

Without guns, we’d have the same homicidal individuals, except there’d be more crafty ones who obtain firearms from the black market which is unregulated and there’d be bombings and other means to carry out acts just as vile as those carried out by guns.

Those who have guns and are responsible with them, such as licensed hunters, want others to be just as safe and to be held accountable for any infractions.

I think that the fact that children participate in lockdown drills in schools in case of active shooters is telling of the condition our country is in. We know this is an issue but refuse to follow through on solutions or compromises.

No matter how uncomfortable or controversial this issue is, we need to stop deflecting and confront it.

I recognize that the case for gun control is valid, but I think a case helping those who are mentally ill or suicidal are more sound. Finding ways to reach those who are in control of guns and evaluating their mental and emotional health before they are able to own a gun should be the priority, after all, it’s not gun violence we’re trying to stop. It’s violence people are using against others.

The best way to reduce those killed by guns every year isn’t gun control. It’s to control gun ownership.

As politicians, corporations and Hollywood grapple with how to address sexual harassment, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos has proposed some changes of her own that would affect both colleges and students all over the country.

The previous administration felt that sexual harassment and rape incidents on college campuses were not being handled appropriately or fairly while the current administration believes that the implemented practices have become too rigid and regulatory.

Six years ago the U.S. Department of Education, under President Barack Obama’s administration published a 19 page document titled “the Dear Colleague Letter,” mandating all colleges that rely on governmental funding to take purposeful action against sexual violence.

College campuses are faced with sexual harassment and rape accusations at an increasing rate in recent years. As high school students, college is near and if altered as DeVos plans, Title IX will affect students for better or for worse.

“DeVos has little experience in managing schools. She is unfit for her position and her policies will only hurt students,” senior Mabel Aceves said.

At this point in time, DeVos has yet to establish anything concrete. The closest she’s gotten is her announcement that there will a “notice-and-comment” process in which individuals are encouraged to voice their thoughts and opinions on potential changes.

Among the publicized supporters of DeVos’ Title IX agenda is California Gov. Jerry Brown.

“Students, guilty or not, must be treated fairly and with the presumption of innocence until the facts speak otherwise.

Depriving any student of higher education opportunities should not be done lightly, or out of fear of losing state or federal funding,” Brown said in a statement on Oct. 21.

According to DeVos, the current system is a failure.But with this same incident, advocates of the “Dear Colleague Letter” inspired system argue that examples such the USC incident is precisely why Title IX policies are so essential. The system was initiated to protect the victims, especially when they are unable or unwilling to protect themselves.

Since 1972, Title IX has mandated

that, ”No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.”

Officially, the original Title IX directive of battling educational discrimination based on a student’s sex is still the purpose yet in our current era, any mentionings of Title IX signifies sexual conduct, or lack thereof, on educational campuses.

In simpler terms, this policy primarily concerns sexual harassment and rape in an educational setting. Although sexual abuse is undoubtedly more prevalent on college campuses, Los Angeles Unified School District has their own set of proce-

dures.

In a phone interview, LAUSD Uniforms Complaints Procedures Coordinator Joseph Green, Ed.D. conveyed that numerous complaints are filed to the district through two methods: by informal means such as a phone call as well as the formal process through an official letter.

“The policies are strictly enforced.

Any complaints that are filed are thoroughly investigated and corrective actions are put into place,” Green said. “It’s important for students to feel comfortable and for them to know that school staff can and will help them address their concerns.”

eing a woman in this day and age goes beyond being pressured to fulfill the stereotypes society has established for us. Being a woman has always required bravery as well.

Following the large number of women who have accused producer Harvey Weinstein of sexually assaulting them, actress Alyssa Milano tweeted a request: “If you’ve been sexually harassed or assaulted write ‘me too’ as a reply to this tweet.”

Sure enough, the tweet received thousands of replies, thousands of women shared their personal and painful stories.

This act of extreme bravery on the behalf of women across the entire world, was intended to illustrate how extremely grave the issue is.

Sexual assault and harassment is an extremely degrading and dehumanizing experience for the victims, it is also much more common than people comprehend.

As of today, I urge you to not support those abusers, whether that be artists such as rapper Kodak Black who was indicted in South Carolina on charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct or movie producers such as Harvey Weinstein and instead support the countless survivors of sexual abuse. Be more compassionate and careful with your words as you don’t know if your words, including rape jokes, could be heard by women or men who are survivors of sexual abuse.

Victims speak out, accuse prominent men of assault Kevin Spacey

On Oct. 29, Buzzfeed News published an article revealing sexual accusations against cast member of the television series “House of Cards,” Kevin Spacey. Actor Anthony Rapp opened up about the alleged sexual misconduct done to him by Spacey. Spacey allegedly went to the bedroom drunk and carried Rapp to the bed, after a party, when Rapp was 14 years old. Spacey responded to the sexual allegations on Twitter and said he “does not remember the encounter.”

But he also apologized for his “deeply inappropriate drunken behavior” and for the emotions Rapp harbored for many years.

On Nov. 29, , NBC host Matt Lauer, an American was fired due to several sexual allegations against him. In one of the allegations, Lauer supposedly had sex with a former employee at NBC without her consent. He called her up to his office for a work-related discussion but when she arrived, he asked her to unbutton her shirt and removed her pants afterwards.

Al Franken On Nov. 27 United States Senator from Minnesota Al Franken apologized for his sexual misconduct after a photo was released of Franken groping, 44-year-old, Leeann Tweeden. Tweeden also accused him of kissing her without consent on a trip to Iraq. In his apology Franken says he is, “going to try to learn for his mistakes.”

Roy Moore On Nov 13. a fifth woman accused Roy Moore of sexual assault. The Alabama Senate candidate has been accused of sexually assaulting Leigh Corfman and having relationships with girls of the ages 16 -18, while he was in his 30s. When confronted with these allegations Moore said “ These allegations are completely false,” and that they are a “desperate political attack by the National Democrat party.” As more allegations are revealed President Trump supports Moore saying, “We need Republican Roy Moore to win in Alabama” and his “vote on stopping crime.”

Israel Horouitz

On Nov. 30, 73-year-old playwright and co-founder of Gloucester Stage Company Israel Horovitz was accused by nine women of sexual assault between 1986 and 2016. One of the allegations was that Horovitz in 1991, according to the New York Times, made Frédérique Giffard, a 16-year-old actress at that time, touch his “erect penis” and he “groped her breasts.”

Melanie Martinez On Dec. 4, singer Melanie Martinez was accused by Timothy Heller, a former friend of Martinez, of sexually assaulting her during a sleepover that lasted two nights. Heller posted on Twitter about the assault and stated that Martinez “performed oral sex” and “penetrated...a sex toy” on her. Martinez later released a statement on Twitter and denied the statements saying she was “horrified and saddened by the statements and story.”

Potential Title IX changes wreak havoc on school policies In the midst of a sexual misconduct societal awakening in Hollywood and around the country, Betsy Devos has yet again proven her position as secretary of education as not “well deserved” by challenging Title IX. Title IX is a federal law that must be followed by any educational institution to ensure funding by the American government. It specifically prohibits any harassment or discrimination based on sex or gender.

Any Los Angeles United School District student or employee can make a sexual harassment complaint.

Sexual harassment includes verbal (vulgar comments), visual (written material) and physical (unwanted touching.) All complaints are handled and taken with the proper and expected neutrality. The punishments for sexual harassment are suspension or expulsion.

LAUSD’s handle on sexual misconduct is relatively in the best state it has ever been, but if Devos takes any further action, High schools will not be affected but

higher education settings will. This brings a danger to students who have already applied to colleges and those awaiting transition when the time comes.

Internet freedom doomed with possible repeal of net neutrality Rudraj Koppikar Contributing Writer

The free and open internet may not be free and open anymore as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced a vote to repeal net neutrality.

On Nov. 21, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai announced a vote to repeal the Obama-era decision which allowed Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to be regulated like utilities. Should the repeal pass, ISPs would be free to charge consumers a premium fee to access certain sites, or to charge for a priority connection. For many people, it may lead to an increase in the price of broadband.

Although Uber brings comfortness for quick, accessible rides with just the tap of a finger, its safeness however, must be questioned as numerous passengers claim to have been harassed.

For several years now there have been multiple incidents involving mistreatment of passengers by Uber drivers.

Many talked about being sexually assaulted, kidnapped and beaten. Two years ago, two female passengers sued Uber because their drivers allegedly raped them. It later turned out the driver had been previously charged with a felony. The lawsuit criticizes Uber’s security and doubtful process of their background checks, making clear that the driver shouldn’t have been hired.

Founded by Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp in 2009, Uber has continued to grow with currently over 40 million active users every month. As part of the company’s mission, it intends to provide a safe and reliable transportation for passengers, as well as help people earn money easily by being drivers. It longs to keep “streets safer” but that ambition is not what’s being delivered.

without the need to call. Users can see the driver’s information which includes a picture, name, type of car and ratings given by previous passengers. This kind of system helps insure the safety of passengers, as the driver’s information is laid out, while passengers also have the choice to accept the ride or not. However, there is an important issue that needs to be quickly taken care of by Uber and that is background checking.

There are doubts circulating around the lack of proper background checking.

Before someone can become a driver, Uber looks over the person’s past records and if any kind of “conviction for a felony, violent crime, or sexual offense within the last seven years,” as stated in Uber’s Help page, the person is unqualified. In the end, inaccurate background checking ultimately led to the discovery of many drivers with records of child molestation, murders, assaults and more. Sadly, many of these drivers have already taken action with their malicious plans.

Victims of these wicked crimes were not only the two women who sued Uber but others. According to the website Who is Driving You, there are about 79 cases of alleged assaults, 337 cases of alleged sex-

Uber stands firm in its intention to supply the security and safety that passengers deserve and need. Many people are still and will be affected by the potential dangers of riding a stranger’s vehicle, under a transportation company that declares safety is its main concern. It’s up to Uber to live up to what it truly stands for, which would require a change in the unreliability and inaccuracy of background checking.

A movie watching experience David Eskichyan

Club presidents Grantas Jadzevicius, Gael Lopez and William Reeves created Motion Picture Club in hopes of giving members an opportunity to enjoy classic films while spending time with their friends.

“I thought that a movie club is something that seems so obvious and I thought why not?” junior Jadzevicius said.

“People like watching movies so why not watch them during lunch.”

Motion Picture Club began in September and weekly club meetings consist primarily of watching and critiquing movies that students choose.

“It helps people understand the classics of movies and have a better understanding of older films,” junior Gael Lopez said.

As the club begins, members find their seats and decide whether to start a new movie or continue the one from the previous week. Five minutes before the end of lunch, members are encouraged to participate in a discussion about the portion of the movie they watched during lunch.

“We have to spread out the viewing of one movie over a few weeks because we don’t have enough time in one lunch period,” junior Reeves said. “Near the end of lunch, we stop the movie and try to talk about it with everyone in the club.”

Motion Picture Club meets every Thursday during lunch in Room 9 with Mark Middlebrook. With the main objective of giving members a deeper understanding of various films, the club provides a fun opportunity to learn how to analyze and appreciate movies.

“They have a place to share their ideas, to talk about movies, to see movies they wouldn’t normally see and discuss them,” club sponsor Mark Middlebrook said.

Ruby Rose, DJ Khaled and “Fat Amy Winehouse” (Rebel Wilson) are all to be anticipated in upcoming “Pitch Perfect 3” “Pitch Perfect 3” follows college student Beca Mitchell (Anna Kendrick) and the Barden Bellas, a reputable all-female acappella group, after graduating from Barden college. After realizing there aren’t many jobs in acappella the group agrees to disband after they perform for one last time on a USO tour in Spain.

Conflict arises once the Bellas realize they have serious competition on the tour and they discover Beca has been offered a solo record deal.

The cast has generally stayed the same the past two movies of the series: Anna Kendrick as Beca Mitchell, Rebel Wilson as (now) “Fat Amy Winehouse,” Brittany Snow as Chloe Beale, Hailee Steinfeld

Universal Pictures released a trailer for the third and final installment of the series on YouTube earlier this June. In it, viewers were promised humor, drama and even more acappella covers than before.

Following the pattern of the two previous films, “Pitch Perfect 3” will have a different director, Trish Sie, who has only directed one other film - “Step-Up: All In” in 2014.

Avid tech fans were ecstatic for the release of the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, but were upset to find that they had their fair share of problems.

The phones attracted attention due to their high-quality cameras and new waterproof features. The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, however, experience issues with their coloring.

The color on the screen seem to be dull and washed-out, not giving it the vibrant OLED colors it should have.

To fix this, Google has added three color modes - boosted, natural and satu-

rated. Saturated mode will make the issue less noticeable and have colors pop out more.

The main issue with the Pixel 2 XL is screen burn-in. Screen burn-in occurs when an image left on the screen long enough begins to leave a “ghost image.”

This leaves the shadow of an image to appear to be on screen even though the phone displays something else.

The issue can occur to phones after a few years of usage, but the issue has been reported by users to be seen as early as a week after owning the Pixel 2 XL. “Our investigation so far has given us confidence that our displays are as great as we hoped they would be, though we’re

Google has released a new update that should reduce the likeliness of screen burn-in by reducing brightness and fading navigation buttons. The company has also issued a two-year warranty for the phones.

It used to be that a full game was sold for the price displayed, but now companies want to charge for both the game and the privilege of playing it in full.

Microtransactions and Downloadable Content (DLC) are business models that have begun appearing in popular video game franchises.

DLC is content released for a game after the game’s initial release, and is often sold for as much as half the original game’s price.

Microtransactions involve digital content being sold to the player, in exchange for in-game currency.

The content can range from cosmetic items for the player to items that give the player advantages over other players.

While most games allow the player to gain this in-game currency by playing the game, it is often time consuming.

However, players are offered the option to pay real money for the currency to save time.

Microtransactions have been called “predatory” and have been compared to gambling because of systems such as “loot boxes” which reward the player with a random item upon paying a certain amount.

Microtransactions were first found in ‘freemium’ mobile games - games that are free to download but make revenue by offering digital content in exchange for real money.

Now, companies such as Electronic Arts (EA) have implemented them into games they charge full price for.

The company was lambasted by fans after the release of “Star Wars Battlefront II,” which had content locked behind ingame currency purchases.

An article on swtorstrategies.com by Soeren Kamper estimated that a player would need to play for 4500 hours or pay as much as $2100 to unlock all the content.

Beloved characters of the “Star Wars” series such as Darth Vader were among the characters locked away from players.

The backlash against microtransactions has caught the attention of governments around the world.

In May, China forced publishers to reveal the odds at which a certain item was dropped from a “loot box.”

In October, a Labour member of United Kingdom Parliament opened an inquiry into the topic.

Now, Hawaiian state Reps. Chris Lee and Sean Quinlan announced they would take action against the practice.

“These exploitive mechanisms have no place in games being marketed to minors, and perhaps no place in games at all,” Rep. Lee said.

However, there are some who see microtransactions as the future. KeyBanc Capital Markets analyst Evan Wingren said that video game publishers charge gamers an inexpensive rate and should raise prices.

This view is shared by several others, including Strauss Zelnick, CEO of TakeTwo Interactive, the studio that published “Grand Theft Auto V.” After the success of microtransactions in the game, Zelnick stated that all future titles published by the studio would include them.

“One of the things we’ve learned is if we create a robust opportunity, and a robust world, in which people can play delightfully in a bigger and bigger way, that they will keep coming back,” said Zelnick.

“They will engage. And there is an opportunity to monetize that engagement.”

Patriots take aim, shoot, score high Karina Mara

Sneakers squeaked across the polished floor and hands flew for the ball as the boys basketball team fought their fifth match of November.

“Players need to be aggressive, they need to be fearless,” Varsity coach Nick Halic said. “They don’t worry about messing up and they’re unselfish.”

On Nov. 29, Birmingham Community Charter High School’s Patriots competed against John Marshall High School’s Barristers in an intense match that ended in a Patriot win. The game kicked off with speedy passes, layups and even a slam dunk. By the halftime mark, the Patriots had 42 points, almost double their visitor’s 27 points. In the end, the Patriots score was 86-56.

“The people all bring good different skills to the team and work well together,” said sophomore Cuyler Huffman, who plays varsity forward for the Patriots. Huffman is also the only athlete from Daniel Pearl Magnet High School on the varsity

The players practiced with various drills such as layup lines, offensive sets and defensive drills. The coach’s goal was to make sure each player carried out their assigned position correctly and learned what they were supposed to do. Since players were liable to switching roles, knowing what their fellow teammates had to do was equally important.

“Last year the team was more experienced,” Halic said. “I had the same guys for two years. Right now it’s about getting these guys gelled up and tougher.”

On Nov. 30, the Patriots team traveled to Reno, Nevada, where they competed in the 2017 Wild West Shoot Out against Mountain View High School’s Toros. The Patriots landed another win with 65-56, marking the team’s fourth win of the month.

The team is currently in pre-season play and will begin their regular season on Jan. 10.

A: I first started cheer around 7th grade.

A: I joined cheer at an after school program in middle school.

A: My coach in middle school really helped kick-start a passion for cheer.

She was hard on us but I’m glad she was because it really helped me get to where I am today.

Q: Have you cheered for any other teams?

A: Not on a professional league.

A: I hope to be able to learn harder skills and move to varsity and cheer all the way to my senior year.

The junior varsity girls basketball team continues to work hard during practices after a good start, bringing home a win on their first preseason game.

After several months of practice, Birmingham Community Charter High School’s junior varsity girls basketball team played their first preseason match against Saint Bonaventure High School on Nov. 29, winning 43-22.

“So far it’s pretty good,” sophomore Keona Paniagua, junior varsity player, said. “It’s my second season playing so

I wasn’t too nervous. I’ve been getting a lot of points and we’ve been winning games. My stats for that game was 8 points, 13 rebounds, 6 steals and 3 assists. I need to work on my ball handling.”

Their next preseason game is against Van Nuys High School on Dec. 6. With a win on their first game, the team is doing relatively well and continues to strive for improvements.

The team usually practices for two hours every weekday and since the start of season, practice is emphasized more on strategic play rather than the typical runs and drills for conditioning. Junior varsity Coach Devon Berry also makes them

play on certain positions and situations in order to train the members on managing the scenarios and performing techniques.

Although skill training and performances have shown positive results, many improvements are still to be worked on, such as communication.

“We lack on communication,” Paniagua said. ”Our point guards don’t call up the plays and when that happens, we don’t know where to go, we’re not on the right spots so then there are breakdowns on the defense.”

Q: How is your schedule different from other student athletes?

A: Usually athletes practice in the afternoon, but since we need mats out just in case we fall, and we need the small gym (the basketball teams need that gym too).

Since we can’t practice at the same time, our coach found having practice in the morning easier and more efficient to both teams and our cheerleaders.
