Diversity celebrated in upcoming 9th DPWMD Christopher Sarenana and Sam Torres

It’s that time of the year again where the life of the late Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl is celebrated.

All over the world, 140 countries take part in the annual celebration of Daniel Pearl World Music Day (DPWMD), not only to honor the slain journalist Pearl but to honor various cultural aspects through music. This year’s DPWMD will be on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m in the MPR and PNN will also be live streaming the event too. Oct.24 there will be dress rehearsals during periods 1 to 6. “ I feel like it’s a chance to express other cultures and to show other people what type of music everyone listens t,.” junior choir member Ximena Renteria said.

The theme this year focuses on celebrating diversity within cultures. Students plan to change it up by singing in multiple languages compared to previous performances. And with it being the ninth year of DPWMD at Daniel Pearl Magnet High School, it will be one of the most memorable concerts according to music teacher Wes Hambright.

“Typically, we’ve sung everything in English, so this year we’re going to sing in Tagalog, Spanish, English and do some solo piano and violin by German composers and a piece called Turkish March,” Hambright said.

“I want the audience to feel that there’s many different genres as well as languages are (presented),” junior Jason Echeverria said.

With more rehearsals starting after school since Sep. 26, the musicians have had to worry less about missing classes and their grades lowering due to the absences from classes.

“We’re doing more after-school rehearsals and trying to keep from bringing people out of class to a minimum and especially in this stage since we’re a couple weeks away,” Hambright said.

With DPWMD approaching, Hambright has members of the band and choir practice in his room after school to ensure the performance is perfect. For weeks, they’ve been going over the tempo and trying to improve their pitch. The musicians have been rehearsing with zeal and

The project will build a new mental health center building and work on site improvements such as outdoor parking and waiting areas. These services will be provided by LAUSD’s department of Student Health and Human Services.

Construction for the new clinic will attempt to accommodate the needs of the surrounding schools by taking steps to minimize the noise and traffic it is likely to bring. While the current clinic will remain open, students and faculty will not be permitted to use its parking lot despite the lot having been used for around a decade as a drop-off area for the surrounding schools.

To ensure that everyday business continues smoothly, workers will be wearing identification badges and material deliveries will be coordinated for special times so that it doesn’t interfere with school drop-offs and pick-ups before and after school. Additionally, mufflers will be used on loud machinery to lessen the noise and sound blankets will be installed around the entire area. During testing, construction will cease so as to not affect student’s focus.

Wellness center is well under way to open spring of 2020 Alexis Gutierrez Staff Writer

The construction of a new School Mental Health Clinic has sparked concern about its impact on the traffic near the surrounding schools.

The school mental health clinic, located between Daniel Pearl Magnet High School (DPMHS) and Lake Balboa College Preparatory Magnet, has provided services for students prior to DPMHS being established in 2009. The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) authorized an expansion of the Balboa Boulevard mental health clinic in 2014 and construction will start this month.

The current clinic will be demolished and rebuilt in order to be improved upon as part of the goals for LAUSD’s Wellness Center 2.0 program. This project focuses on providing mental health services, dental services and physical health services to students and their families.

“They work with students, families and school communities to build on existing strengths and skills that assist in navigating life’s challenges and its stressors,” Program Coordinator Lorrie Munoz said in an email.

Vihn Loi focuses on serving 100% vegan, dishes using simple ingredients such as soy and tofu. Some classic meals include the Classic Udon Stir Fry and the Kevin Fried Rice that are sure to satisfy. The restaurant never fails to leave a customer satisfied with both the food and the service.

The unique and flavorful dishes served at the restaurant put a modern twist on Vietnamese classics even for those who are not vegan. Vinh Loi is perfect for anyone who wants to try different types of foods but may not know what exactly to order and seeks a flavorsome adventure.

The owner Kevin Tran is very helpful and committed to his customers when it comes to making recommendations on what to order. He seems to know exactly what the customers want by asking a few simple questions.

The employees seem very genuine and kind when attending to customers.

The restaurant itself seems to stand out with the vibrant green and orange walls along with the many reviews the restaurant has gotten. Although there isn’t much space, the employees work fast to make room for each customer. With the restaurant being small and compact it gets crowded as it gets full for dinner, so it is suggested to eat there for lunch. The average meal costs about $12 but the appetizing meals make up for it. Since it is located in a small shopping center, space and parking can be limited.

Science teacher Stephen Schaffter says goodbye to Daniel Pearl Magnet High School as he heads toward retirement at the end of the school year.

Schaffter started teaching in January of 2000. He joined the magnet program at Birmingham High School in 2001 and from there he remained a part of the magnet program when Birmingham became a charter school.

Schaffter helped create PearlCon with science teacher Jim Morrison, assisted with developing the school safety plan that led to him helping with the emergency plans and helped with the bell schedule. He has been in charge of restorative justice, making the houses and house activities.

“I still don’t know who will take over

the houses but I am sure that whoever takes over will do a wonderful thing with it,” Schaffter said.

He is very pleased to see what DPMHS has become since the school’s first opening as an independent magnet.

Schaffter is happy to see how his teaching methods helps students succeed.

“Mr. Schaffter had a rapport with his students that I don’t think is matched by any other teacher on this campus,” math teacher Leslie Hicks said. “What Mr. Schaffter has contributed to the school among other things is a chance for his students to feel connected to and really successful at physics and chemistry. Students will miss the way that he helps them understand his teaching methods to grasp the topic.”

It is unknown who will replace Schaffter at the moment, but students will

miss the way that he helps them understand science.

“He has helped me with understanding chemistry in a way that I feel like no other teacher would,” sophomore Julissa Jaco said.

Restorative justice was implemented last year and Schaffter organizes activities for it every month. Next year, he hopes that it will stay in place so students can have a place to share their feelings.

Schaffter decided to retire this year as it was the earliest he could do it and still get his benefits. During his retirement, he plans to drive all over the western part of the United States with his wife.

“My wife and I have a trailer and we just want to see all the sights we want to see,” Schaffter said.

Filipino Club: Tag along and learn Tagalog Tylin Jarrett

Juniors Lucianne Lejarde and Keona Paniagua created the Filipino Club as a way to spread their knowledge of the Filipino culture.

“Filipino Club is special for me personally because, for the first time, I have the opportunity to really connect to my Filipino roots and share with others,” Paniagua said.

The club started on Aug. 24 and takes place every other Wednesday during lunch in Room 15. This club is open to anyone regardless of their race, gender, etc.

Paniagua is the president of the club and Lejarde is the vice president.

“You do not have to be Filipino to join as anyone and everyone is welcome,” Lejarde said.

The club goes over Filipino history and helps students get a better view and perspective on the Filipino culture.

“We decided to start a Filipino club at our school because we wanted to learn more about our culture while educating others at the same time,” Lejarde said.

This November’s midterms have consequences Itzel Luna

The November 2018 midterm elections have a lot at stake this year and the lack of voting in previous years has spurred a huge push for the younger generation and women to vote.

The presidential elections in 2016 produced the lowest voter turnout in nearly two decades with only 56 percent of voting age citizens casting ballots. The elections will determine which political party will take over the senate and the house of representatives for the next two years.

Midterm voters tend to consist mostly of older Republicans. However, Democrats are hoping the heavy opposition to Trump and the recent interest shown in topics like immigration and gun control will urge millenials and the younger generations to vote.

Many organizations such as the nonprofit voter registration group HeadCount hoped to reach young voters this year by partnering up with singer Beyonce on her On The Run II tour where fans were able to register to vote at the concert. Survivors from the school shooting that occurred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on Feb. 14 set out on a national tour called Road to Change over the summer. The tour aimed to motivate young voters and boost the turnout. They visited over 80 communities in 24 states over the course of 60 days.

All 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives will be filled by the midterms.

Only one third of the 100 Senate seats will be up for grabs this year.

Currently, the Republican party has control over both houses but this is likely to change since the Democratic party has an 80 percent chance of taking over the House, according to fivethirtyeight.

Republicans are expected to keep control over the Senate since Democrats only have around a 20 percent chance of taking over.

Democrats taking control of either house will likely cripple President Donald Trump’s agenda since any legislation his party proposes will most likely be rejected.

On the other hand, Republican’s maintaining control of the House will result in more opportunities to push Trump’s agenda.

With the obvious rise in political interest shown by young activists all over the country in recent years, there has been a push to lower the voting age to 16.

The national campaign Vote16USA is trying to gain support from political leaders to make this change.

Many celebrities have also used their platform to try and encourage their fans to vote. Earlier, singer Taylor Swift took to Instagram to share her political stance and urge her young followers to vote. Her post caused a spike in voting registrations in Tennessee, the state Swift will be voting in. Vote.org reported that they saw 2,144 new registrations in the 36 hours after the post.

Dianne Feinstein won the primary with 44.8 percent of the vote. She is the incumbent in this race, having served five full terms.

Feinstein has been advocating for protections for immigrant children and the passage of the DREAM (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors) Act. She has strongly opposed President Donald Trump’s orders which separated immigrant children from their parents at the border and further restricted immigration into the country. Feinstein co-sponsored the bill that blocked Trump’s third executive order, which would prevent immigrants from certain countries from entering the U.S. due to a purported high risk of terrorism from visitors from those countries.

Kevin de León is running against incumbent Sen. Dianne Feinstein after barely advancing in a crowded Democratic pri-

He was President pro Tempore of the California state senate from 2014-2018.

De León is widely viewed as a progressive candidate with a strong focus on immigration. He wants to lead Congress to act on immigration reforms, strives to clear the overcrowded detention centers which immigrants who cross the border are housed in and provide more pathways towards citizenship.

De León believes the border wall is a waste of money and aims to end mass deportations. De León is also a strong advocate for making healthcare a right and is a proponent of the Medicare for All plan which would give healthcare to every citizen under a single payer system.

Another issue De León feels strongly about is gun control. He is introducing a comprehensive plan for gun-control which includes a ban on assault weapons, an expansion on background checks, prohibiting domestic abusers and stalkers from

Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom (Democrat) currently holds the lead for California governor with 33.8 percent of the vote in the June primary. He is currently second in command to Gov. Jerry Brown and was previously mayor of San Francisco.

Newsom made a name for himself in 2004 when he granted marriage licenses for same-sex couples as the mayor of San Francisco. He supports LGBTQ rights and wants to work in Congress to pass the Equality Act. Newsom advocates for universal healthcare with a single payer system under his belief that healthcare is a right.

Newsom understands that California is a diverse state and so he stands with California’s “sanctuary” status on immigration and he supports comprehensive immigra-

He wants to ensure that our country’s youth gets the highest education possible without graduating with thousands of dollars of debt. In order to achieve this De León wants to provide tuition-free entrance to public universities.

Adults held accountable for actions despite age Shannon Sullivan

Teenagers are always told that their actions in high school will affect their future. What they do now will be seen by their future schools and employers, which means they have to be mindful of what they say, post online or do.

If teenagers are held accountable for their actions, then the same should be applied to adults no matter how long ago it was.

The procedure for prosecuting a crime someone committed as a minor is tricky, though it is possible to go to jail for a crime depending on the person’s age and when the crime was committed. In the case of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who was accused of sexually assaulting a girl when he was 17, he can’t be criminally prosecuted for it because it happened 35 years ago. The statute of limitations for sexual assault unless reported normally has a limit of only a few years.

Most courts also lack the authority to charge those over 22 for crimes committed as a minor.

Teenage years are said to be a time to grow as a person and learn from your mistakes. How can anyone learn from their mistakes if they won’t be held accountable for their actions later in life? An adult should be able to take responsibility for their actions in high school and should be held accountable for them, especially if it is related to a crime.

Generally, someone who is 17 years old would be held legally accountable for their crime, while a 9-year-old wouldn’t. A minor can still be prosecuted in an adult court, regardless of age if they commit certain felonies. All of these laws also vary

Another factor is the statute of limitations, which is meant to help crimes be prosecuted while evidence and witness testimonies are fresh. The statute of limitations sets a time limit for criminal charges and filing a lawsuit. It can allow some people to get away with their crimes just because it’s too late for them to get a lawsuit.

For example, if a victim of an injury takes two years to sue, then they would no

longer have a legitimate case. The statute of limitations exists mainly to help defendants so that they can provide evidence in their defense while they still have it.

The law also exists so that at a certain point, uncharged offenders can stop looking over their shoulders in anticipation of a lawsuit. At a certain point, it becomes too late to sue and they can get away with no repercussions.

That doesn’t mean Kavanaugh or anyone else shouldn’t be held accountable for

their actions. An assault, no matter how long ago it occurred, is still an assault.

While the physical aftermath might be gone, psychological scars remain. Some sort of responsibility should be taken. The mistakes we make, no matter how long ago, is something we need to own up to.

As Halloween approaches, many people will head to stores to stock up on decorations, costumes and candy.

With Halloween comes Dia de los Muertos, a special holiday in Mexico and Latin America that celebrates life and death on Nov. 1 and 2.

Many corporations, such as Party City and the 99 Cents Store have begun profiting from this holiday. It is, however, unacceptable to sell full costumes called “Day of the Dead Sombrero Señor Costume”

‘The Hate U Give’ revives black, youth activism

In reaction to today’s ferocious police brutality, “The Hate U Give” explores society’s social role in the stereotypical perpetuation of black victims.

Out in theaters Oct. 19, Angie Thomas’ 2017 best-selling young adult novel stirs up controversial opinions regarding gang life.

The 133-minute film offers no apologies for its balance of a dramatic comingof-age storyline while previewing a mix of romantic comedy scenes with a bold culture-clash.

Starr Carter, portrayed by “Everything, Everything” star Amandla Stenberg, is divided into two worlds separating her black culture in Garden Heights with her dominantly white school life.

Screenwriter Audrey Wells and director George Tillman Jr. feature well-known cast like K.J. Apa, Sabrina Carpenter, Regina Hall, HBO’s “Insecure”star Issa Rae, rapper and actor Common and Anthony Mackie.

Lil Yachty: Georgia-born rapper Lil Yachty is set to release his third studio album “Nuthin’ 2 Prove” on Oct. 19. Though the record was originally supposed to be released on the rapper’s birthday, Aug. 23, Yachty postponed the release date, instead gifting fans a playlist titled “Birthday Mix 3” on SoundCloud. This year alone, Yachty has released singles like “Who Want the Smoke?” featuring Cardi B and Migos’ Offset and “Rari” featuring Ugly God, Carnage and Famous Dex. Among one of the best things the fall season has to offer is the flood of new music from favorite artists.

Dua Lipa: English pop singer Dua Lipa is set to release the complete edition to her self-titled debut album “Dua Lipa” on Oct.1 9. From prior editions of the album will have three brand new songs, including “Kiss & Makeup,” “Running” and “Want To.” She took to Twitter on Sept. 3 to inform fans of a super deluxe edition to her debut album, which includes a variety of new music.

Lil Uzi Vert: After struggling to release music from his label Atlantic Records, rapper Lil Uzi Vert’s album “Eternal Atake” is finally expected to release sometime this fall. It’s been more than a year since his last album “Luv Is Rage 2” was released.

Lil Uzi has kept quiet on social media and held off on releasing new music. Even though he hasn’t been releasing his own music, Uzi has been actively featured on songs with Juice WRLD, Lil Pump and Travis Scott. On June 16, Uzi posted a video on Instagram of himself dancing to his song “New Patek,” which currently has 13 million views. Controversy soon followed the rapper, as he modeled his album cover after infamous cult Heaven’s Gate’s popularized icon, which he’s being sued over for copyright infringement.

The 1975: Alternative indie pop band The 1975 is scheduled to release its third studio album “A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships” on Nov. 30. The band originally intended to release an EP called “What a Shame” but ultimately called it off and chose to release a the record in its entirety. The album will have 15 songs, including previous singles “Love It If We Made It,” “Give Yourself a Try” and “TooTimeTooTimeTooTime.” Lead singer Matt Healy also announced that the group will release another record in 2019 called “Notes On a Conditional Form.”

Boogeyman returns for a final kill in ‘Halloween’

“Halloween” was released in 1978, showcasing the silent, blue-jumpsuit and white-masked killer Michael Myers. Forty years later, the horror thriller returns with its original title and a brand new storyline.

Original director John Carpenter returns as an executive producer and creative consultant, tied with the horror-producing powerhouse Jason Blum. The script is written by David Gordon Green alongside Jeff Fradley and Danny McBribe.

Director and executive producer Green decided that for the new R-rated movie being released Oct. 19, past sequel/ remake movies from the franchise, many having been ill-received, should become non-canon.

“For us, it was a clean slate type of opportunity,” Green told Coming Soon.

“If there was a little inspiration or mirror image of something it’s very subtle in the movie because we want to start fresh for a new generation but with great appreciation for the previous.”

For original fans, this means Myers is no longer an immortal, supernatural being (as presented throughout the franchise to appease fans) or protagonist Laurie Strode’s (played then and now by actress Jamie Lee Curtis) brother.

The remake is also expected to depict Myers having been captured in the first movie and sent to a mental institute. This puts him in a situation where he’s been kept locked up for 40 years.

Horror Nights: Nowhere near as horrifying as promised Briana Lopez

Universal Studios Hollywood’s 20 year anniversary of the limited-time Halloween Horror Nights takes place now through Nov. 3 due to their appealing attractions and mazes.

The newly added attractions and mazes include “Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers” and a consistently gory Terror Tram. Other available attractions and mazes from previous years are “The First Purge,” an immersive attraction of AMC’s The Walking Dead, eerie smokefilled scarezone “Holidayz in Hell” and a routine from popular dance crew the Jabbawockeez. The park’s most captivating attraction this year is its newly-added “Stranger Things” maze, inspired by the two-season Netflix original.

The park offers multiple ticket packages. The ticket in which I purchased was a September month pass for $100 and is no longer available. The month pass allowed me to go up to 11 nights though I only went four. General admission ranges from $75 to $97 and park passes range from $109 to $350 and allow visitors to return to the park from one day to 30 after their initial visit. Discounts are available to people who own Universal Studios season passes.

Though on the pricier side, Horror Nights is well worth it to fans of horror, special effects makeup and terrifying mazes.

Q: How long have you been playing tennis?

A: Since I was 10 and then I played for four years consistently. Then I took a break and now (I play again).

Q: How difficult is it as a student-athlete?

A: It can be difficult at times because I have to balance schoolwork and tennis.

So, that becomes a struggle trying to see if I have time.

Q: What does your daily schedule consist of?

A: After practice, I usually go home, do work and if I have time on the weekends or Friday I go to the courts.

Q: What about tennis gives you joy?

A: Being part of a team and when you win games. That makes me happy.

Q: What dramatic changes have you implemented in your life due to sports?

A: The only big change would be coming home later than usual, so there’s less time to do homework, but I still manage to find the time.

“I hope we beat Taft badly because that’s our rival, which is known to us ‘TOW’: Team Out West. So we don’t really acknowledge that they’re even Taft,” Rose said.

This year’s homecoming game will be different as the BCCHS football team will be playing at Taft, the first time ever in

the team’s history where they will not be playing on their own field for their homecoming game. The BCCHS field has been under construction for new turf, which means they haven’t played a home game all season.

Both schools have been longtime rivals but BCCHS has beaten Taft in the last seven games they have played against each other.

“Taft, you know we don’t like them very much and you know we’ve been rivals for the last two decades or so,” Rose said. “ Usually the league championship has been decided between Birmingham and Taft.

Now it seems to be more of a Birmingham vs. El Camino thing, so you know we’ve

won the last seven games against Taft, in the last seven years.”

Birmingham currently sits at 4-2, tied with Cleveland at the top of their division.

They have two games coming up before the homecoming game against Taft.

The game will follow with the homecoming dance on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. in the main gym.

“It’s against Taft so I mean like that’s cool to just like beat them again,” senior and Varsity defensive line player Kyle Matson said. “ I’m looking forward to winning and enjoying my homecoming dance the next day.”

Staff Writer It’s something that’s normal every year in schools- seniors leave. And Birmingham Community Charter High School’s (BCCHS) Lady Patriots from the varsity girls volleyball team are no exception.

“As of right now there are only 4 underclassmen on varsity and out of the four only two of us actually get playing time,” said junior and Varsity player Keona Paniagu. “With that being said, our JV (junior varsity) team has no varsity-level playing experience and I feel like Cindy (Ovalle) and I, are really going to have to step up our game because I’ve been on varsity since freshman year and Cindy’s been on varsity since last year. Which means that only us two really have the experience and the knowledge to kinda set the tone for the rest of the team.”

In general, group consensus isn’t good for next year’s volleyball team.

Q: What’s your favorite and least favorite thing about your coach?

A: Favorite thing is he’s like a second dad to me; a really cool and caring guy. Only bad thing is when he yells at you, he has these pale blue eyes that kind of stare at your soul.

Q: What position do you play and what position would you want to play?

A: I’m starting at defensive nose tackle and I also play defensive nose and defensive end and starting at right tackle on offense. If I could play anything, it would probably be a fullback but that would require my knee not to be messed up.

With strong play throughout the season, the Birmingham Patriot boys water polo team looks poised for a strong playoff run.

For the last few years, the Birmingham boys water polo teams have consistently been able to have solid seasons.

Last year, the varsity team was able to make to the semi-finals of the playoffs and two years ago they came up just short of the playoffs but still had a competitive run.

A good number of the players are returning from last year’s team and are pretty confident about their prospects heading into the postseason.

“We’ve done really good this year so

far,” said senior and varsity team captain Ben Sanchez. “I mean out of the four years I’ve played this is the best year we’ve had so far and this is the most talented group we’ve had.”

The boys water polo team beat Granada Hills Charter High School 13-7 on Wednesday, Oct. 10 in an aggressively competitive game on both ends. Both teams have been each others rivals for a few years, always duking it out in their matchups against each other.

With an overall record of 15-5 and a 4-0 league record, the team is poised to make the playoffs with only 5 games left on the season. This is Birmingham’s best season since going 22-6 in 2015.

now we’re probably looking at second seed for LA city section and that will put us up against Poly in the finals if everything goes according to plan,” said senior and varsity player Zachary Gephart-Canada. “They’ve won finals six years in a row but our team is really good this year so I’m hoping we can change that.”

The playoffs start on Nov. 3 with the quarterfinal round. The semifinal round follows on Nov. 6 and 7.

“I’m looking forward to winning.

I’m pretty sure we have it in the bag this season,” said freshmen varsity player Yonatan Zelig.

Q: What made you want to play football and what keeps you going?

A: I saw it on T.V. and said, “Hey that looks pretty fun, so freshman year I was asking around on how to get into the football program and Dean (Khazanov) picked me out of my dance class and literally carried me to Birmingham. What keeps me going is I’m pretty good at it, fun to play and I have a whole second family over there.

Q: Since this is your last year playing for Birmingham, what type of legacy do you want to leave for the school and younger teammates?

A: Since this is my last year playing for Birmingham, I would like to leave a legacy that I’m just a go-getter. Like I play for sports and it takes up a lot of my time, I still have good grades and I still go to the gym every day so I just want everyone younger than me to know anything you set your mind to is possible no matter what it is.

“Galaxy Attack: Alien Shooter” will give you nostalgic flashbacks to classic arcade games.

The objective of the game is to save the universe in a spaceship and to shoot aliens. Along the way you will receive power-ups such as the ability to have more shooting rays at a time or pick up new with unique rays. You must watch out for the enemy rockets that try to take you out.

You can play with up to two friends in the multiplayer game mode. There is a betting system with in-game coins where bets can be placed in multiplayer. In order to unlock multiplayer you must pass the first four campaign levels.

While the app is free, there are also optional in-app purchases. With the coins, you are able to buy more power-ups like crystals and a variety of rockets. The crystals represent extra lives given after you die to keep going in the game.

Five years after the release of “Grand Theft Auto V,” Rockstar Games prepares for the third installment of the western-themed “Red Dead” series, “Red Dead Redemption 2” on Oct. 26.

Though the game title includes number two, this installment will be a prequel to 2010’s “Red Dead Redemption.” The story follows outlaw Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang, as he must live the life of a wanted man after a bank robbery gone wrong. John Marston, the main protagonist of the second “Red Dead” will make an appearance as well as

it’s villain, Dutch Van der Linde.

Gameplay will revolve around an open world environment in a choice of either a first-person view or third-person view and interactions with non-playable characters, which will align with how people of certain areas will react to the player. This includes relationships with fellow gang members in camp, local shop owners throughout the open world and every non-playable character. Living as a criminal in open land, hunting will play a big part in order to have food, including fish, birds and land grazers.

Sony has announced that the PlayStation 4 will finally be able to cross-play with other gaming platforms in third-party games such as “Fortnite.” It will allow gameplay between users of platforms such as the Xbox One, Mac, Android, IOS, PC and Nintendo Switch.

Sony is now beginning to follow the trend of cross-platform, which was started when other popular games such as “Rocket League” and “Minecraft” became available on both Xbox and mobile. The company faced mounting pressure to allow players to play across platforms and has led to Epic Games enabling cross-play.

The implication this could have for the gaming industry is a larger connection between consoles, and people will be able to play with nearly anyone in the future.

The “console wars” can become a thing of the past with games being available to players on a wider array of devices and the ability to connect with others regardless of the platform.

Battle Royale and free-to-play games are typically the most cross-play friendly since they aren’t affiliated with a specific gaming company. The cross-play beta was made available at the same time “Fortnite” season six arrived, and improvements are still being made.
