For its 22nd anniversary, Jeffrey Fashion Cares encouraged Atlantans to believe in power in numbers and support this year’s theme, Prevention in Pairs. Once again embarking

on a mission to raise as much awareness and funds as possible for its beneficiaries, Susan G. Komen for the Cure— Greater Atlanta Affiliate and the Atlanta AIDS Fund (AAF),

Jeffrey Fashion Cares wanted patrons to grab a friend and join them in honor of two great causes at the 2014 fashionable affair that was held Monday, August 25th at the

JEFFREY FASHION CARES American Cancer Society Center in Downtown Atlanta.

The official kick-off to the fall social season, Jeffrey Fashion Cares was founded

by Jeffrey Kalinsky, arbiter of style and creator of two namesake boutiques in Atlanta and Manhattan.

Guests were able to enjoy a pre-show cocktail reception and silent auction followed by a live auction and runway show featuring Kalinsky’s style selections from highend designers such as Lanvin, Celine, Christian Dior, Givenchy, Erdem, Saint Laurent Paris, Balenciaga, Christian Louboutin and Manolo Blahnik. JFC has grown into one of the largest combined AIDS and breast cancer benefits in the country.

We have to say, each year JFC continues to be the fashion event of the year in Atlanta. We say that not just for the models and the fashion show, but even the guests that attend are in their best. Its like the entire building knew this date was coming and everyone had an individual stylist. A few noteworthy guests include:

Chilli from TLC, Andi Dorfman from the Bachelor and her fiancé Josh Murray, author Emily Giffin, 11Alive’s Melissa Long, Fox 5 Atlanta’s Lisa Rayam, Susan Been, Vickie Palefsky, Kristin Klingshirn (The Bert Show | Q100), Claire Wire, Christine Pullara (11Alive’s Atlanta & Company), and Ginny Brewer.

The top-selling auction item went for $16,000. What was it? Two Tickets to the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party in Los Angeles and dinner for two at STK Los Angeles – Over the past two decades, the Academy Awards Viewing Party has become firmly established as one of the most prestigious and glamorous parties on Oscar Sunday, including a cocktail hour, seated dinner during the Oscar telecast, live auction, and special performances. EJAF’s Party has attracted luminaries from Hollywood’s celebrity community including Oscar winners: Halle Berry, Nicolas Cage, Kevin Costner, Kevin Spacey,

Denzel Washington, Catherine Zeta-Jones and more. Recent musical performances include Mary J. Blige, James Blunt, John Legend, Grace Jones, Florence & the Machine, Emeli Sande and Edward Sheeran.

As a series Dead Rising has its issues, they mostly all come from a story that tries to push wacky humor and dire drama all at once, making it come o as insensitive at the best of times. Somewhere along the line the developers stopped making a game that made fun of all the silly things in horror genres and simply made a game that exemplified it. Sure many parts are meant to be silly and tongue-in-cheek, but others are clearly meant to be taken seriously and with how heavy handed the simple plot tends to get that’s hard to do.

The entire game attempts make sense of a story that obviously was never meant to be scrutinized. However, if you

overlooked that issue and want the game for pure zombie smashing fun, then you came to the right place. Weapons range from cool to ridiculous and everything imaginable in between.

The workbench system, a place to create new armaments in game, has been perfected with the Weapons Locker. Now retrieving weapons made previously is easier than ever, this same system also applies to clothing found in the game, making everything able to be retrieved in the Safe Rooms.

I am no longer required to remember exactly where I saw a piece of clothing and then run through a zombie riddled town to get it, if I pick it up it is stored away. The Apocalypse Edition comes set with DLC missions and

costumes from Capcom, which is an added bonus for those who have been waiting patiently for it to lose its Xbox exclusivity.

Maybe the best improvement was to the time based chapter system that kept me from ever enjoying the first two games. The stress of possibly missing an important story event or being unable to save someone used to make me want to outright quit. In Dead Rising 3 is still in place, but is far more lenient allowing me to run around with various weapons and rack up points like I always wanted, without feeling like I was actively ruining my own play through by doing so.

With the game as it was on XboxOne, I could easily give it an 8 out of 10, however this is the PC version we’re talking about.

Unfortunately this port has more than a few technical problems; it runs at 30 fps (fps= frames per second; on a good day) and loading screens can take so long you forget what you are even doing at your computer. All this assuming the game even starts since, for many players, myself included, the game wouldn’t load at all or would crash at random times, throwing all progress made in the trash. This had to be an especially upsetting outcome

for those who preordered the game.

Maybe in the future it will be patched and all will work as intended, but for now I feel it has been given the score it deserves.

If you love zombie killing and want to take a chance that your computer might be one of the lucky few to only be plagued by long loading screens and the incomprehensibly low frame rate, be my guest. 6 out of 10.

If you own a PS4 or PC and like pool, there is no reason not to get this game. Pure Pool offers a classic game spruced up with beautiful graphics and a calming atmosphere. I found myself playing far longer than intended because it is so all about getting you into another game; finished a match? How about some pool until you decided what you want to do next!

I can play alone and hone my skills or against the computer in a career mode that gives me increasingly difficult opponents , or

should the computer bore me, I can take the fight online and go head to head with players around the world. There are a few limited customization options such as the ability to change the table color or the logo on it, but one way or another it doesn't matter, merely icing on a cake I was already enjoying.

The physics are spot on and it is more than easy to tweak a shot to get the perfect alignment. If I were to complain it would be that when drawing back the cue it is sometimes difficult to

gauge how far back it is, which directly affects how hard I hit the cue ball.

For $13 I don't think you will find a more perfect simulation of the game.

Pure Pool offers all of the glamour and class of a pool table in an upscale bar without ever having to leave your home. Pure Pool gets a 9 out of 10.

As far as racers go Table Top Racing is pretty standard, there are several cars to choose from and all can be upgraded. The tracks, as the name implies, puts the player on tables in dierent locations; picnics, workbenches restaurants, etc., each with creative and colorful backgrounds. The cars themselves handle well enough, even without upgrades, and there are circuits to win in order to get points to unlock faster cars.

The controls are tight, the music is forgettable, but not annoying, and the graphics are

vibrant and sharp. There is even a mode that challenges players to beat certain game types with specific cars to try and compensate for the fact that there are only about two cars you would ever bother spending your upgrade points on.

Every time I think EA has learned a lesson about how to release a game they go out of their way to prove me wrong. The Sims 4, the long awaited successor to the throne of the mega popular Sims franchise, is as disappointing as getting a Playstation 4 for Christmas only to open the box and find out there is only a broken Super Nintendo inside.

In many ways The Sims 4 as a base game is far inferior to the base content oered in The Sims 3, ignoring missing Create a Style feature there are so few clothing options and color choices for the Create a Sim I thought I might still be playing the demo. In

Sims 3 the creators were all about streamlined gameplay and minimizing load screens, in Sims 4 you will be able to go and make a sandwich while the game throws up a load screen for your sim to cross the street.

I will give credit where credit is due, the new build mode is everything I ever wanted and more, it is easier than ever to find the item and style you want to customize your home.

Unfortunately even that positive experience is marred by an endless barrage of tutorials that can't be turned o unless you manually reprogram the base code.

With the exclusion of that one feature everything in this new installment feels like a step backwards. I will never be able to fathom why the teen, young adult, and adult ages are all the same height, and pretty much have the same clothes set. Which makes for insanely frustrating gameplay as your sim runs around two whole cities looking for someone their age to flirt with because for no reason at all teens, young adults and adults cannot fall in love across the age line.

At least before you could tell at a glance who was what age, I guess that was too convenient so they took it out. They also took out the toddler age group and swimming pools because reasons… I guess. And even if you ignore the stifling rigidity of the clothing options for males and females, overlook the rampant bugs and simply play fair and never delve into a fustercluck that the cheat codes have become, the game is still just plain bad.

Though there is the addition of moodlets, stats for your sims that show how they are feeling and why, the game lacks any form of feeling. For instance, my sim is pregnant and goes into labor, her husband freaks

out in panic and joy… before he runs upstairs to work out… cause, y'know, gotta stay buff. Once upon a time the game required you to buy what you needed to care for a baby, now newborns just teleport into the house already in a crib. Before you would have to wait until a baby's birthday to advance them to the next stage of life and you had the option to throw them a party or basically ignore the event, now just click on the infant and make him a child.

Let me take a moment to explain how lazy that is on their part; if your sim has a child they get a positive moodlet for having a new baby, should you choose to immediately age the infant up, the mother will

have a new baby moodlet… while caring for an eight year old child. It is so ridiculous, and there are about a million other immersion breaking issues that happen throughout.

This game feels less like a sequel and more like EA realizing how easily they can exploit the fans of the franchise.

So unless you are willing and capable of installing the eventual mods that may make this game something better, I recommend popping The Sims 3 back in. 4 out of 10.

ltra Street Fighter IV answered all the prayers to all the Street

Fighter players around the world. It's way better than the previous Street Fighter IV games that came out throughout the years.

To me, they were just too slow. I couldn't understand how anyone could pull off combos in the game.

Basically, I had to go back to my old Street Fighter II days . But SFIV couldn't live up to SF Third strike which was the best SF game from the early 2000’s, and most players chose that game more than SFIV.

Ultra SF4 has 5 new characters: Elena, Hugo, Poison, Rolento and the mysterious masked Cammy clone named Decapre. If you noticed she was actually a support character in 1998's Street Fighter Alpha 3 to a playable character in Ultra SF4. Thus her play-style is way different from Cammy, Decapre is a charge character. She has a unique move set but to me its kinda difficult to use. Guess I’ll get use to her one day… I wish they would've put Gill in there (but we all know that Seth is just a clone of Gill) but they have a similar move set and favor each other a lot.

Ultra SF4 has some new gameplay mechanics such as Ultra Combo Double, letting players do both of their characters Ultra moves, in exchange for doing less damage. So kinda like in SFA where you can do all of your character super moves, you're not just limited to one. Red Focus Attack, letting fighters absorb multiple attacks at once by sacrificing some of their meter. Kinda like a parry attack from SF Third Strike, but we all know that parrying was way better. Delayed Wake-up, allowing characters to delay standing up after being knocked down.

With these new mechanics I'd say it made Ultra SFIV better, and I would say most would agree. We know that SFIV and Super SFIV weren't all that great, even Street Fighter X Tekken wasn't all that great, but Ultra SFIV came along and picked up the slack that all those games were missing. I was hoping that SF X Tekken would've gotten an update but it didn't... One can only dream. Well Capcom put SF back on the map for me and I thank them for that. I give Ultra SFIV an Ultra 9 out of 10.

Bentley Brunch Part 2 Sunday, September 7, marked the private release of the 2014 Bentley Continental Flying Spur V8 edition at Bentley Atlanta. A few months ago we brought you the release of the Continental GT (coupe) V8 and V8S. This goround, there were even more people, more cars, and great conversation.

If you weren’t outside to marvel at the plush interiors of the new V8’s, you could enjoy a fresh mimosa, 4 different types of crepes, and even get a quick massage. This private unveiling had it all. There were plenty of salespeople available for questions, test drives, and an explanation of features for the vehicles.

LADIES WHO BRUNCH ATL Brunch! Tea! Women Empowerment!

These and many other factors made up the extravagant Ladies Who Brunch ATL: Royal Tea

Seminar. This was only my second time attending an #LWBATL event but I can truly say I’m hooked. What makes this event so unique is the fact that it’s not your typical networking event.

What’s better than putting on your best attire, attending a brunch, and getting advice from successful women all in one setting? It’s the perfect combination!

The brunch, hosted by creators Dayira “Dayybella” Jones and Bianca Rush, featured a diverse panel.

Kandi Burress and Cynthia Bailey were among the panelist and each agreed that being apart of The Real Housewives of Atlanta gave them an outlet to promote their own business ventures.

Necole Bitchie, who is wellknown for her blog Necolebitchie.com, discussed how she created the blog to get the attention of a very reputable record label and it turned into something much bigger. Emily B. shared how social media aided in the signing of a five-year contract with ZigiNY designing her own shoe collection. Last but certainly not least, celebrity

makeup artist Latasha Wright, opened up about how strong relationships with her clients played a role in how she treated her employees.

The one thing in common with these ladies, including the creators of #LWBATL, is that they used what they had to get to where they are now.

Every woman seated in the illustrious Biltmore ballroom absorbed and appreciated every word spoken to them.

Brookhaven’s State of the City Address

Thursday, July 31st, the City of Brookhaven held its very first State of the City Address. As you can see from the picture above, they’ve made a statement in literally everything that they’ve done. From incorporating the city, to crime reduction, to expanding parks, and as you can see, going all-out for their first ever addressing of the city.

If you aren’t familiar with Brookhaven you were probably there and just didn’t know it. Have you ever gone “too far” north on Peachtree passing Phipps Plaza? Or maybe you went 1 exit past Perimeter Mall (Ashford Dunwoody) on 285? Surely, you’ve been on Buford Highway? If the answer to any of these is “yes” then congrats my friend, you’ve been to Brookhaven. It’s where the ATL Silverbacks host their opponents, there’s a Marta stop on the Gold Line, and one of their many parks (Brookhaven Park) hosted ATL SoccerFest.

The Inaugural State of the City Address took place at Holiday Inn Atlanta-Perimeter.

Nothing was spared for last night and it was a great chance to meet everyone. By everyone I mean the chief of police, other officers from their police force, city residents, city officials, State House Reps, and the Mayor. It was a fantastic time, filled with networking, wine, desserts, various fruits, and 3 different food stations offering Caribbean, American, and Asian meal options!

They’ve been featured on our various local news stations for having the most desired zip code in Atlanta (for realty) and “the place to be” for young professionals. We saw firsthand, these residents are serious about their city and have even bigger plans for the future (including such things as a state-of-the art Brookhaven Innovation Academy and the usage of Google Fiber city-wide).

OPRAH’S “THE LIFE YOU WANT” WEEKEND

Oprah Winfrey kicked off her eight-city U.S. arena tour “Oprah’s The Life You Want Weekend” at Philips Arena, in Atlanta on Friday, September 5. The Peach Review® was in attendance all weekend to cover this life changing / transformational weekend.

This outstanding event really goes above and beyond at all levels to ensure this will fuel all participants to go after the life they want. Oprah knows her audience and she also appreciates that if you attend her weekend tour it will cost money and take up a great deal of time. Since an arena like Phillips is fueled for concerts and shows, she is aware that since she is not a singer or dancer, she will have to go above and beyond. She really gives 100 percent if not more. Oprah states, “I want us all to fulfill our greatest potential. To find our calling, and summon the courage to live it.”

The weekend tour began on Friday afternoon at Centennial Olympic Park with the audience being wowed at the venue called O town. O town is a 360-degree community that features things all associated with Oprah Winfrey and her various multimedia vehicles and products. These aspects include booths, lounges, live music, food, cooking demos, photo kiosks and celebrity guests on both Friday and Saturday.

Some of the guests included Oprah’s best friend, Gayle King (“CBS This Morning” and Editor-AtLarge O, The Oprah Magazine), Adam Glassman (creative director O, The Oprah Magazine), Carla Hall (host of the “The Chew”), Palmer Williams, Jr. (“Love Thy Neighbor”), Us The Duo (musical performance from the upcoming film “Book of Life”), Amy Purdy (Paralympic Bronze Medalist and “Dancing with the Stars” finalist), Peter Parros, Gavin Houston and Tyler Lepley (“The Haves and The Have Nots”), Jasmine Guy (“A Different World”) among other local celebrities and dance troupes.

After a great day in O-Town, the evening concludes with Oprah taking the stage to bring her personal story and insights to life in a one of a kind intimate and interactive evening. She introduces her team of speakers for the weekend who she calls her “Trailblazers.” These speakers will all help the audience on Saturday find the technique and skill base that will lead them to the life they want. The handpicked Trailblazers consist of leaders and pop icons including Iyanla Vanzant, star of OWN’s hit series “Iyanla: Fix My Life,” regular O Magazine contributor, best-selling author and spiritual life coach; best-selling author of Eat Pray Love, Elizabeth Gilbert; one of Time 100’s Most Influential people, Pastor Rob Bell and worldrenowned author and pioneer in mind-body medicine Deepak Chopra. Additionally, Paralympic Bronze Medalist snowboarder and “Dancing with the Stars” finalist, Amy Purdy, will join Oprah to recognize an outstanding individual with a Standing O-Vation.

Oprah welcomes the audience with a heartfelt introduction that shows her journey to her current moment in life and then indicates how much this weekend means to her:

The event closed with Oprah Winfrey and Team Toyota brand ambassador Amy Purdy honored Ashley Hicks and Toni Carey (pictured next page), the founders of Black Girls RUN!, an Atlantabased national running group created to combat obesity among women in the African-American community. As the first “Standing O-Vation” recipients, Black Girls RUN! will receive a $25,000 grant from Toyota in support of its continuing efforts to get women running.

Black Girls RUN! was formed by Carey and Hicks to increase the number of African-American women who run, improving their fitness, quality of life, and ultimately decreasing the number of African-American women who are overweight. What began with a blog and two women in Atlanta has grown into a network of more than seventy groups and hundreds of thousands of members across the nation. “We are still in shock at what happened tonight and cannot believe we were chosen to receive this once-in-a-lifetime honor,” said Hicks. “Eighty percent of AfricanAmerican women suffer from obesity, and this group was a way to get women moving. This honor gives us the opportunity to take Black Girls RUN! to the next level, allowing us to serve our community even further,” added Carey.

The driving force behind The Toyota “Standing O-Vation” stems from the automaker’s commitment to fostering women’s interests. While reflecting the kind of stories that define the brand, The Toyota “Standing O-Vation” is an opportunity to celebrate remarkable women who are not only making the world a better place, but also motivating others to spark their own journey of personal change.

Into the Storm, directed by Steven Quale, is about a town called Silverton that has to deal with an unprecedented amount of tornadoes in a single day. The film takes you through the events of the day from several perspectives including storm chasers, students at a local high school, and various views around the city.

The main character Gary (Richard Armitage) is a single-father with 2 kids Donnie (Max Deacon) and Trey (Nathan Kress). Gary’s paternal responsibilities are put to the test as a series of tornadoes, unbeknownst to the children, are heading straight towards their high school, Silverton High. When the children get separated, that’s when the real test begins for Gary.

Allison (Sarah Wayne Callies) is part of a group of storm chasers who’ve been waiting for an opportunity like this to go “into the storm.” A series of cells appear on their radar throughout the day and their goal was to find the best one for their boss Reevis (John Reep) to drive his special-made vehicle inside the storm (with special armor and cameras attached to it.

At first when I saw commercials for this movie I thought, “Oh, they made an updated Twister.” But that came out how many years ago? So with advances in technology I guess they wanted to make another tornado film. This wasn’t half bad though, the plot will keep you enticed more than you’d expect. It has a few funny moments and of course the moments of “what the heck?” But I’ll be honest, seeing a tornado rip through a fictional airport was pretty interesting. This is definitely a “you know what? Neither of us are doing anything Saturday, let’s go see Into the Storm.” It’s not bad but it’s not amazing. So I’ll give it a 7 out of 10. It’s barely an hour and a half so it won’t take up your day watching it.

The Hundred-Foot Journey, directed by Lasse Hallström, was a fantastic film! It begins with the family of talented cook, Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal), whose life is filled with both culinary delights and profound loss. Hassan and his family flee to Europe after facing political violence in India (that also took his mother’s life). His family’s escape eventually landed them in France. Whilst traveling through France their car breaks down. As fate would have it, they come across the kindness of a young woman named Marguerite (Charlotte Le Bon). In her village, Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val, Papa Kadam (Om Puri) gets inspired to set up an Indian restaurant there.

This new plan to stay in the village and conjure a host for Indian cuisine wasn’t immediately accepted by the family and definitely came to the chagrin of nearby restaurant owner Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren). The film tells a heartwarming and very real story of love, loss, racism, acceptance, and new beginnings.

The Hundred-Foot Journey is a wonderful story that will keep you intrigued and not looking at your watch. It runs right at 2 hours long and you should definitely give it a try this weekend. Great story, great dialogue, and it has Helen Mirren in it. Need we say more? 9 out of 10.

This movie is flat-out awesome, mainly for the sake of something that hasn’t been done before. Boyhood literally takes you through the boyhood of a young man named Mason (Ellar Coltrane). We watch Mason grow up from age 5 to 17 when he graduates high school. The film, directed and written by Richard Linklater, gives a realistic view of life. The movie ran like an actual movie except you watch the same character grow up. It was executed to perfection.

None of that, “Young Mason played by” and “Old Mason played by.” It was 100% Mason the entire time. You watch as he and his sister Samantha (Lorelei Linklater) grow up under notso-fortunate circumstances. The kids got along great with each other and other kids, it’s just their mother’s choices that kept things “interesting” to say the least.

Their Mom (Patricia Arquette) and Dad (Ethan Hawke) were together at one point, and later she probably regrets not seeing things-out with him. As the kids grow, they deal with seeing their dad on the weekends, school, growing up, constantly changing living environments, and watch their mom make poor choices in partners time and time again.

It’s probably the realist movie out there right now and it’s not a documentary. Boyhood presents an innocent look at a typical American life with its highs and struggles. You’ll definitely feel nostalgia hearing songs that were popular many years ago, seeing the fashion trends change before your eyes, hairstyles, architecture, and everything in between. I can definitely give Boyhood a 9 out of 10. It’s a fun movie you should definitely see simply because its different. Now I will say this, don’t think you can fit “A movie 12 years in the making” (that’s the tagline) in 90 minutes. Oh no, this bad boy is close to 3 hours long.

Remember, you are watching a kid at 5 go through life all the way until he goes to college. So be prepared for a good film and get comfortable!

Let’s be clear about 1 thing: No matter what Liam Neeson stars in, you’re going to see it.

Just admit it (that and the fact he’s just a likable guy). He’s loaded up his schedule since the passing of his wife and has taken on a new identity in film. This identity includes “having a special set of skills” if you know what I mean (that’s a nod toward the “Taken” franchise). So when you see the trailer with him in a dark plot with dark clothes and hear the words “I need your help… it’s about my wife” one would immediately think “oh great, it’s another Taken.” Then you see the movie title and you’re thrown for a loop.

A Walk Among the Tombstones is a pretty decent movie. With direction by Scott Frank, the film is about a retired private investigator named Matthew Scudder (Liam Neeson) who’s hired by a drug kingpin. His services are needed because his wife disappeared and specifically wanted Matthew because of his résumé. After weeks of searching for clues and questioning people, he’s on the brink of giving up when he discovers another drug dealer was victimized. The difference with this one was that it was his daughter.

As opposed to seeing this because you think its Taken 3 (the actual film is in postproduction) you should probably just wait for its release. This is definitely a great Red Box film waiting to happen. I give it a 7 out of 10. It has a decent cast and the story is enough to keep your attention.

The Equalizer was surprisingly amazing. It was directed by Antoine Fuqua (that got my attention first) and of course it stars Denzel Washington (which also got my attention) but, that’s about all I knew about it. I purposely did not research anything about this movie before seeing it. I had heard so many great things (which prompted me not to hit any early premieres or lookup trailers) that I wanted to see how it would turn out just knowing “its a Denzel film.” Well boy did it deliver…

Just when Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) thinks he’s put his mysterious past behind him and started life anew, he witnesses a series of bad relationships happen and can’t sit idle. It all begins with a Russian girl at a coffee shop. Every time they see each other at this shop they make small talk. Whenever he sees her she’s dressed like she’s coming from a nightclub but always leaves the shop with a different man. That eventually leads to him witnessing something he shouldn’t have and his involvement with the girls sets off a string of other calamities that occur throughout the film.

Now the awesome part comes in how he handles these situations. His day job is at a generic Home Depot. The way he “handles” people or in some cases kills them, is totally unexpected. It’s a horrifically graphic combination of MacGvyer meets Hannibal. So the title comes as he intercedes in different people’s lives to level the playing field when they’re being wronged (equalizing).

But I digress, its Denzel so you must see it. It won’t disappoint and I also must note, it’s probably the most gory film I’ve seen him in. So do not see this if you have a weak stomach and can’t handle people dying in creative ways. 9 out of 10. You go Denzel, you go.

Primo takes us all to the “University of Self” with a lesson plan drawn up from his very own experience in the world this far. Leaving no subject untouched, everything from flashy designer brand wearing pastors to the dumbing down of the music industry for the masses.

The song opens up with familiar words like money, club, bottles, models and VIP section.

Mocking the hip-hop artists of today, he grabs your attention, then begins class. He asks that you question the world around you. Corporations, television and healthcare are all part of a cycle to keep us down.

Primo says we need to be taught forward-thinking instead of just history in order to move ahead. All of these lessons are written out on a chalkboard beat produced by Phoenix and Lone$tarr. I can’t help but to picture a scene with Michelle Pfeiffer transforming the thought process of inner city kids. Maybe this is the “Gangster’s Paradise” of today. (Where is Coolio anyway?)

Grab an empty seat in the front of the classroom and bob your head to Life 101 from a King’s Mentality.

In August of this year Gerald Albright dropped his latest and much anticipated CD titled Slam Dunk. As is so often the case, Albright not only lived up to expectations but surpassed them --- by miles. Albright is currently traveling the country as part of Dave Koz and Friends' Summer Horns tour (along with Koz, Richard Elliott and Mindi Abair).

Slam Dunk is Albright's first solo effort since his 2010 Grammy nominated "Pushing The Envelope"; it also marks his 14th studio album. As always, Albright presents a nice blend of up tempo tunes (Slam Dunk, Sparkle In Your Eyes, Split Decision), as well as easy listening tunes (A Man's World, Because of You,The Gospel).

If your day is off to a slow, lethargic, mundane start, the title cut, "Slam Dunk" will surely provide you with a pick me up. "True Colors", "Fiesta Interlude" , "Sparkle In Your Eyes", and "Because of You" would all qualify as songs that are impossible to listen to and NOT tap your feet. Albright's version of "A Man's World" would make The Godfather of Soul James Brown proud.

During his early years growing up in South Central Los Angeles, Albright says that he was strongly influenced by both Maceo Parker and saxophone icon Julian "Cannonball" Adderley; if you're a fan of either, you'll hear hints of both of them in Albright's style of play. While I don't have a crystal ball and can't predict if "Slam Dunk" will experience the same level of acclaim received by "Pushing The Envelope", I would strongly recommend it be added to your music collection. Immediately.

Chris Botti and Will Downing On Saturday night August 2nd two heavyweights in their respective musical genres, graced the stage at Chastain Park. R&B crooner Will Downing and trumpeter Chris Botti made for a night of musical polar opposites. On one end of the spectrum you have Will Downing, who as he said, queued it up for all the guys, with his sexy love ballads; on the other end of the spectrum was Chris Botti, whose sultry horn ranged from up-beat, to jazz, to symphonic. At the end of the day, a good time was had by all.

As I watched the crowd during Will Downing’s opening performance, I got the feeling that many of the attendees were there primarily to see headliner Chris Botti, and didn’t particularly care who the opening act was. But midway through his performance, I noticed heads that had been still, beginning to bob up and down; and who could blame them? Will did wonderful covers ranging from Marvin Gaye (You Sure Love To Ball) to Angela Bofill (I Tried); in between, he sprinkled in some Michael Jackson and Atlantic Starr as well. Will performed some of his standards as well as cuts from his latest CD.

By the time Will left the stage, you could tell he had made some new fans …. and isn’t that what it’s all about?

World renowned trumpeter Chris Botti had the crowd eating out of his hands from the moment he stepped on the stage and acknowledged Atlanta as one of the cities with the highest musical I.Q.’s in the world. I have to admit, I am somewhat of a Chris Botti snob — I think he is an absolute virtuoso in the purest sense of the word. From his posture while playing, to his range on his instrument, to his stage presence, interaction with the audience, willingness to acknowledge band members (pianist Taylor Eikstine and drummer Billy Kilson), sharing the stage with guest artists (vocalists Sy Smith and George Comsky, and violinist extraordinaire Caroline Campbell), I could go on, but I think you get the message.

Botti’s willingness to engage the audience, share musical anecdotes from his travels around the globe, and leave the stage to play his horn while walking thru the audience was a real contrast to Downing (who could have been arrested for loitering on stage during a performance). I last saw Botti perform in Las Vegas a few years ago — he hit a home run then, and hit another on this night in Atlanta.

Despite the 10 minutes of rain that visited during the Downing performance, the evening was fantastic, and both artists gave the audience it’s monies worth — a great show given by two talented professionals.

Garth Brooks

Phillips Arena was live this weekend when the Garth Brooks with Trisha Yearwood World Tour made its second stop. The two-shows-a night performances starting September 19 – 21 and 26-27. The shows started a little late but no one there seemed to mind. People from all over came to see Garth and Trisha. When the concert started they had a 100 second countdown and when it hit 10 seconds, Phillips Arena came alive. Everyone was on their feet and ready to hear one of the best country music artists of all time.

He played songs from when he first started like, Friends in low places and The Dance all the way to his new release song People Love People. There were times where he would stop singing and just play his guitar and the crowd would take over. Every song, the crowd was singing along with Garth Brooks.

When you thought the show was at its peak, Trisha Yearwood came out. She received the same love from the fans as Garth Brooks. She took over the show without losing a beat from the crowd. She couldn’t leave the stage without singing her hit song Ribbons and curls. It was a special weekend not only for Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, but one for all the fans. There were times you would look around the arena and see people crying from memories of what songs meant to them, or just to turn on the flash on their cells phones and waving them in the air. You could see the joy in Garth Brooks eyes that after all these years of him being a performer his fans still love him and they were just as excited to see him. It was a magical show for all that attended and are going to attend this coming weekend.

TomorrowWorld

With the EDM scene quickly expanding from the European music scene, the emergence of TomorrowWorld has brought forth international attention to the East Coast. The debut of TomorrowWorld 2013 put Atlanta, Georgia on the map of the world's top EDM cities, hosting festivals such as: TomorrowWorld, Counterpoint, and Mad Decent. Many infamous EDM artists such as Bassnectar, GRiZ, Zeds Dead, and many more periodically visit Atlanta venues for festivals or even for their own seasonal tours. Many of these artists headlined the TomorrowWorld music festival, performing on countless stages during the 3 days of the festival.

Upon entering the vicinity, festival-goers had a few options to choose from. The first option is to enter and leave the festival through the “Kiss and Ride”: a carpool line in which a friend can drop you off and pick you up, anytime of the day. TomorrowWorld also teamed up with Uber to have Uber drivers ready at most times of the day to drive people back to their hotels or home for the night. The next option attendees had was to drive to the festival and park by the camping grounds, in which the parking costs were about $25 for a single day.

The last option, but certainly not the least, was to attend DreamVille: the camping grounds of TomorrowWorld. Attendants of DreamVille mainly arrive Thursday evening to get a close spot to TomorrowWorld’s entrance. With Easy Tents, Relax Rooms, or Bring-Your-Own-Tent, TomorrowWorld campers spend a total of 4 days (the first night being an exclusive DreamVille concert) in the festival with their closest friends, families, and even newly acquainted ravers.

Upon entering, you’re now able to set your mind free in this new world. With food joints, cigar shops, cocktails, and phone charging stations, the currency used at TomorrowWorld was “tokens” in which you transferred money onto your TomorrowWorld wristband to scan at each vendor’s booth.

EDM involves many sub-genres such as dubstep, house, trap, and so on. Almost every genre/artist label had their own stages to perform on, such as: “It’s a Trap!” stage which played solely trap music, “Mad Decent” stage which composed of artists from the “Mad Decent” label, and many more.

In particular, artist MAKJ from the TomorrowWorld line up was one of the headliners of the “Anthem” stage. Last year, MAKJ performed in the debut of TomorrowWorld in 2013, performing on the main stage during one of the earlier time slots. In our interview with MAKJ, the artist was enthralled to be headlining Anthem stage this year. With touring around the US and performing at notable festivals such as Coachella, MAKJ seemed to love the TomorrowWorld experience and enjoying the Atlanta scene on his time off. “I think Atlanta is probably one of the best spots…Atlanta has a lot of history with music”, stated MAKJ when answering if Atlanta was the ideal location for festivals such as TomorrowWorld and Counterpoint. “TomorrowWorld always seems to pick the right time to do it in regards to weather…The day that I played [on Saturday] was gorgeous. It’s the best possible scenario you can have for a festival”, he states in regards to all of the amenities available to the crowd.

With vendor booths, refresh stations with bathrooms and water, and even lounges where you can charge your phone, it’s almost as if TomorrowWorld wants you to make it your second home. As the night died down and the masses filed out the exit on the last day, a feeling of accomplishment rushed through every person who conquered TomorrowWorld 2014. Totems and flags on PVC pipes come down, and the lighted accessories were turned off. With friendships created and experiences learned, everyone left with a huge smile of success emitting. As the next year lingers, people will anxiously wait for next year’s tickets to go on sale for TomorrowWorld 2015 and re-experience what they love to do for another weekend.

Georgia Tech Football Here we are once again ladies and gentlemen. The summer is coming to a close here in Atlanta and Fall is upon us, which means one thing. The college football season is about to begin!

The Yellow Jackets opened their 2014/15 campaign against the Wofford Terriers. It was a warmup session for “The Swarm” as they beat Wofford 38-19.

Every year, people from miles around come to downtown Atlanta and takeover the gorgeous Bobby Dodd Stadium. Attending a Georgia Tech Football game is an experience every visitor and resident alike should have.

It’s the perfect mesh between beautiful urban landscape and the southern charm that Georgia’s known for.

After their Terrier victory, the Yellow Jackets then went to Louisiana to face Tulane. Continuing their winning form,

the Jackets handled their business and won 38-21.

For those that didn’t know, in College Football every game counts. So even though they started 2-0, that’s still a big deal and very encouraging.

For this year’s Family Day, the Yellow Jackets hosted the Georgia Southern Eagles. It was a packed house that day as many local Atlantans attend or used to attend that university affectionately called “Southern.” 53,173 fans were in attendance for this first-ever meeting between the 2 football programs.

2 teams with 2 scrambling Quarterbacks usually amounts for a lot of yardage gained. This game was no different, as the two combined for over 1,000 yds. of Offense. Each Quarterback ran for 100 yds. and threw for 100 yds. Georgia Tech’s Quarterback

Justin Thomas had more rushing yards than all the other Running Backs that game. The Jackets flirted with disaster but were able to pull of the 42-38 victory over Georgia Southern. Their next home game will be against the Miami Hurricanes on Oct. 4.

That game is significant for 3 reasons. First, a victory would mean another conference win. Second, it’s officially the white out game (All the GT fans dress in white). Lastly, a win would most definitely see us ranked in the NCAA Top 25.

College Football is king in the Southeast, and there’s no better way to experience College Football than with Georgia Tech!

Georgia State University Football is another option for College Football in Atlanta. The Georgia State Panthers are lucky enough to call the Georgia Dome their home during the season. It makes for quite an experience for fans and visitors and serves as a nice escape from campus life for students.

The 2014/15 season marks the Panther’s second season in the Sun Belt Conference. This year, they kicked off the College Football season for the country, hosting the Abilene Christian Wildcats.

This was a very important game for the Panthers.

GSU was coming off of a winless season and a losing streak that started the year before that. Not only that, this game kicked off College Football for the entire country. So since it was the very first game of the season, it was televised and the entire country was watching. You couldn’t ask for more pressure on a young, budding program, with new additions/transfers, and a Head Coach in only his 2nd season with the program.

The College Football Kickoff Game couldn’t have been more exciting than what was delivered. The game was full of excitement, drama, and the winner wasn’t decided until the final seconds of the game. This game had everything a great football game should have.

The added bonus for the young athletes? At least 5 plays from the game made ESPN’s Top 10 Plays the next morning.

On 4th down with 14 yards to go and 50 seconds left, Quarterback Nick Arbuckle stood tall and connected on a 16-yd pass for 1st Down.

Arbuckle manned-up and ran for 1st down twice to get the Panthers in field goal range.

Kicker Wil Lutz stepped up and made Panther fans’ dreams come true and nailed a 26-yd FG to cap off a 72-yd drive.

GSU now had the lead 38-37 and that’s how the game would end.

After a much-needed win over Abilene Christian, the Panthers were in high hopes going into their next game against the New Mexico State Aggies.

Although the Panthers showed signs of life, they were simply outplayed that night against the Aggies. The Panthers were leading most of the game but just couldn’t finish it out. Even their following game against Pac-12 giant the Washington Huskies couldn’t handle the Panthers in the 1st Half. But by the end of the game it was a blowout by the Huskies.

Attending GSU games are not only fun but their family friendly too.

With multiple giveaways, games, and fun music to dance to, you’ll definitely want to check out the Panthers this season. If you need a suggestion, the game against Georgia Southern should have a very nice turn out (Saturday, Oct. 25). When you attend, be sure when you post on social media to tag it “All Blue All In.” We’ll see you this season.

DREAM GIRLS July 25, 2014 Motown has its Dream Girls and Atlanta has theirs; the Atlanta Dream Women’s Basketball Team. Simply referred to as “The Dream”, our girls fight ferociously in the

WNBA’s Eastern Conference. Calling Philips Arena their home, we had the privilege of tagging along for their playoff run this season.

CHICAGO SKY

Going to a Dream game is not only fun, but you’ll be happy in what you’re getting for your money. Players never hesitate to sign autographs when they’re around, the team is always promoting a good cause (this go-round its “Dream Pink” along with Grady Healthcare to fight breast cancer), and team merchandise is fairly priced. With constant giveaways

throughout the game, upbeat music, and a noticeably great time for kids, it’s a nice change from the ordinary Atlanta roundup (Falcons, Braves, Hawks). The Dream lost this game with the Sky but it didn’t affect their 1st place position in the Eastern Conference.

NEW YORK LIBERTY

The Dream hosted the New York Liberty on their home turf at Philips Arena. In conjunction with Grady Hospital and their continuous effort in the fight against breast cancer, the theme for the evening was pink. Not only did the girls wear pink uniforms but all in attendance received a multitude of gifts (colored pink) and came dressed in various theme-colored shirts, jerseys,

pants, headwear and jewelry. It was a grand night for all in attendance.

Unfortunately the ladies’ efforts fell short in this game and lost to the Liberty. Times like this are why its good the ladies came into the home-stretch of the post season with a 9-game cushion (2nd place team were 9 wins behind the Dream). The girls pulled together and were ready for the Mercury.

PHOENIX MERCURY

As stated a moment ago, the girls pulled it together going into this game and handled serious business. As posted above, Tiffany Hayes and Schoni Schimmel are all smiles.

Aside from the fact the girls were having a ball, Schimmel led the team with 24 points and they beat the #1 team in the league by 14 points. It was a rout from the very start of the game.

All of the hype coming into the game about Brittney Griner was quickly put to rest as the Dream rallied behind Hayes, Schimmel, and leader Angel McCoughtry. The game was quite the sight, as the top 2 teams in the league faced off against each other. The Dream bested the Phoenix Mercury in front of a very loud and energetic 7,663 in attendance.

TULSA SHOCK

Another WNBA star came to town by the name of Skylar Diggins. She and the Tulsa Shock came to Philips Arena to take on the Dream just days before the WNBA Playoffs. What they weren’t prepared for was the 92-76 drubbing our girls delivered that night. It was an extremely physical game and the girls looked more than prepared

for whoever they might be paired with the for the first round of the playoffs. 
 With this being the final home-game of the regular season, fans were welcome to stay after the game to meet the players and get autographs.

NON-STOP FUN

Lastly, we couldn’t tell you about the Atlanta Dream Experience without mentioning all the fun.

On any given night, whether regular-season or playoffs, you never know who might show up to support our girls. Aside from all of the free giveaways and prizes, you might get a chance to see your favorite athletes, radio personalities, and more!

WNBA PLAYOFFS

Now as stated a few pages back, we had hosted the Sky back at McCamish Pavilion and lost a close game. They ended up being the #4 seed, so the Dream’s Playoff Series began with the Chicago Sky. Looking to exact revenge, the Dream came out fighting hard. It was by far the best 3 games of Women’s Basketball we had ever seen. Each game was like a 12-round Championship Boxing Match. We really thought this would be their (the Dream) year, having home-court advantage for having the #1 seed in the East and having played so well the past month.

The Dream dropped Game 1 at home but, were able to steal an away win in Chicago for Game

2. When the final game of the series came back to Atlanta it was very intense. By halftime the Dream were up by as many as 21 points. Some how between the 3rd Quarter and the final seconds the Sky had brought the game within 2 points. With some last second heroics the Sky finished their comeback and won the game in the final seconds, ending the playoff run for the Dream.

If you like basketball, a great time, and getting the most for your money, you should come check out the Dream next season. It’s the best ticket in town.

RECREATION & TRAVEL

SG People 5 SG People 5, the answer to your organizational problems! The “SG” is Simple Genius, as in Simple Genius Software, the company that made this amazing app. SG People 5 is available on the Mac App Store and is the best organizational chart we’ve seen. If you constantly manage, delegate, or anything pertaining to organization, this is the app for you!

Anyone in management could appreciate this app. First thing, it is extremely simple and easy to use. If you look to the right, there’s a tab for multiple “Organizations” (we used our magazine for example) and once you choose one you have a list of options to identify it. Including: Name, Description, Value, Company, and even Tags.

As for the chart itself, you can see an example of how you can set it up. For this hierarchy we have 2 Vice Presidents answering to 1 President. As you see on the top left of the picture, you can easily add more positions, select a different organization, or delete it and start a new one.

The Top right shows the chart pivot level, where you can click and drag the cards to adjust the level of responsibility/assignment.

You can double click on the card and a list of position details becomes available. So if you look at the diagram I’ve highlighted the card for Desmond. As you can see, a plethora of details are available from Department Name & Number to Role & Location.

Beneath that are formatting options.

You can change the shape of the cards, the colors, adjust borders, and add dividers.

So if you look back on the last page, the first picture showed how to utilize the “Organizations” option. Beneath that there’s “People.” If you look to the right, we created a new person named Keisha. This is where the bulk of the perks come in for management folks. The section above has your basics: Name, Email, Phone Number.

The middle portion is specifically targeting company information, including: Photo for Identification, Company name, Employee ID, Date of Birth, Date of Hire, and Gender.

The bottom portion gives you ample space to list details about that person’s organization, department & title, and any notes that need to be made.

The company behind this cool app, Simple Genius Software, is headed by Ty Jacobs. We were able to get a word in with him about this awesome project!

“We started in the business of project management apps and have delivered over 100,000 apps in over 100 countries. We want to provide apps for people who manage Projects and People. So this people app is the first proper foray into the People side. It is only on Mac right now but we do plan to deliver an iPad version later this year. We hope that people find it helpful and want to see it grow.”

One interesting thing is that up until about a month ago, you could do a search on the Mac App Store for "org chart" and you got zero results. Eyeing that as a clear opportunity to fill in the gap, SG People 5 was born. Now a total of 3 apps will appear but, SG’s is more of a data-based tool than a painting type app.

“I used to work for a department with about 200 people and I was responsible for maintaining the org chart. It is surprisingly hard to stay on top of that, with people coming and going all the time. But, it is also very important for an organization of that size to keep everyone on the same page. So I wanted to make it easy and quick for busy managers to build accurate and beautiful org charts that can be shared easily,” he stated.

Aside from being an amazing organizational tool, it gives you the option to be as simple or as detailed as you choose. When you’re finished making your chart you can print it to hang in the office, share via PDF, Box, or Dropbox, and even sync the info with other SG mobile apps.

HALL OF FAME

After nearly 18 months of construction, the new home of the College Football Hall of Fame will open tomorrow, Saturday, August 23. To celebrate, the CFHF and Chick-fil-A Fan Experience will host the “Ultimate Tailgate” from 9am to noon this Saturday in conjunction with its Grand Opening.

This Ultimate Tailgate will have it all: ESPN College Game Day bus, a free kid’s football clinic by Kids and Pros, a live broadcast from 680 The Fan, kids activities, a live DJ, the Clark Atlanta drum line, games, and more!

Mayor Kasim Reed will officiate the opening, along with a host of College Football Hall of Famers like: Steve Bartkowski, Kevin Butler, Charlie Flowers, Rich Glover, Joe Hamilton, Randy Rhino, Art Shell, and more!

As far as the Hall itself, its perched on a customformed concrete “Y” column, the football-shaped rotunda sits atop the entrance, providing views into and out of the Hall. The attraction consists of multiple galleries, culminating with the Hall of Fame shrine on the third floor.

These galleries will include interactive exhibits that include a 52-foot touchscreen wall and an RFIDenabled, multi-touch system that allows fans to interact with videos and images specific to their favorite college football teams. These personalized touch points begin as soon as visitors enter, when their college football team’s helmet will light up on the 55-foot-wide, 29-foot high entry wall.
