Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

The first governmental recognition came through municipal ordinances passed during 1885 and 1886. Some records show that Peter J. McGuire, general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a cofounder of the American Federation of Labor was first to suggest a day to honor workers.

Many believe that Matthew Maguire, a machinist and later the secretary of Local 344 of the International Association of Machinists in Paterson, N.J. founded the holiday and actually proposed the holiday in 1882 while serving as secretary of the Central Labor Union in New York.

Arrive in time for 6:00 pm practice for candidates and parents (at least one parent) in the Church followed by a 7:00 pm Penance and Reconciliation service for CANDIDATES AND PARENTS. If sponsors are available, they are most welcome to come to the practice and celebrate Penance and Reconciliation with the candidates and parents. Service should be concluded by 8:30 pm.

Jesus, Mommy and Me is an early childhood, Christcentered formation program and playgroup for a parent and their preschool aged children (infancy until Kindergarten). This program in not just for Moms. Dads, grandparents and caregivers are also welcomed.

Such upgrades will likely include magneƟc locks, emergency exit upgrades, and idenƟficaƟon cards.

Internal Church LighƟng - Capital improvements are necessary for maintaining our blessed physical plant. A porƟon of the monies raised will improve the church’s lighƟng infrastructure.

Emergency and Stewardship - Saint Mary Parish must improve its financial stability to ensure uninterrupted and quality service. To do this, Saint Mary Parish will establish a fund to help provide parish support during Ɵmes of emergency or financial strain. In the past, the Diocese has provided support in this area; however, it is prudent for the Parish to improve its financial stability.

Saint Mary Parish MINIMUM goal, as established by the Diocese of Trenton, was $1,250,000 in which we included 3 years of the parish’s contribuƟon to the Annual Catholic Appeal.

Parish’s NECESSARY goal is $2,250,000.

NOTE: 70% of all gifts received after reaching our minimum goal come back (rebate) to the parish and will go into a restricted fund to be used only for the 3 items in the case statement.

Quo vadis…

My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time.

Authentic discipleship does not require us to hunt for suffering. Being faithful to Jesus will bring enough as it is. For many of us the bigger challenge of discipleship is to keep in focus that our self-offering always brings new life. Like Jesus, embracing discipleship means that we, too, are destined for glory. All who wish to be faithful to this call to discipleship must be prepared to suffer—and also prepared to receive new life.

to strive for the very best in their lives. We have concluded Re-Registration for our Religious Education and Sacramental Preparation opportunities for our parish children and young people. No further Re-Registrations will be accepted.

Materials, class assignments, catechists, allocation of space, licensing for online materials will be finalized at this time in preparation for a timely beginning. Preparation for the Inter-generational activities have begun.

This is an integral part of growing in faith as a family.

This weekend. we give thanks for the blessings of human labor. As a society we reflect on what it means to be co-creators with God in building up a more just and fruitful society. Many of us are the beneficiaries of those who have gone before us and labored hard to build the infrastructure of our nation. Some even gave their lives for this progress. Each of us, too, is called to share our time and talent in the work that we choose or are given to accomplish.

Cultivating a sense of perseverance and pride in our work is sometimes sorely lacking. Customer service seems to be less and less. Personal pride in one’s trade likewise seems to be on the decline. No matter what our place in society or what our role in business, each of us has something to contribute. Let us never forget those who have gone before us in building this great nation. Let us never forget our role in continuing to share the blessings of human labor to continue building our nation while offering a living witness to our children and young people.

Many of us have been shaken by the images from Texas in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton has requested all parishes within our Diocese to take up a special second collection. This money will be sent through the USCCB to assist the dioceses affected by this natural disaster. Our Diocese of Trenton received $670,000.00 from the USCCB collections throughout the USA in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. Our parish will take up this collection next weekend, 9/10 September 2017 at all Masses. Thank you for your generous support of our sisters and brothers in east and southeast Texas.

As we enjoy this weekend, many of our children and young people have or will soon return to school. Let us remember all students in our prayer. Let us also pray for all teachers as they impart knowledge and challenge young people

I am grateful to all those who are planning to participate, have sponsored aspects of the event or taken an ad in the journal. I look forward to a wonderful evening of community building while at the same time raising funds to support the mission, ministries and outreach of our parish.

Walking With Purpose classes start September 28, with two courses to begin or continue your faith journey, offered Thursdays from 12:30-2 pm and 7:30-9 pm.

Opening Your Heart: The Starting Point is the foundational study, for women who are new to WWP as well as those who have not taken this revised course in the last two years Touching the Divine, a study of the Gospel of J ohn, draws us into a deeper relationship with Jesus.

Fall 2017 The New Day - Bereavement Support Group held by - Ministry of Consolation Invites You…to participate in a nine week program for those who are grieving the death of loved ones and want to work through the tasks of grief in a structured way using the New Day Journal, A Journey from Grief to Healing.

The sessions include readings, reflection, sharing and journaling.
