by Pope Pius XI with the encyclical Quas primas (in the first). Key elements of faith that we celebrate today include: Jesus is the Word of God made flesh, the Incarnate Lord.

His kingship is founded upon the ineffable hypostatic union…Christ has power over all creatures. (Quas primas, 13) Jesus is fully God and fully man. He is both the divine Lord and the man who suffered and died on the Cross. In him, one person of the Trinity unites himself to human nature through the Incarnation and reigns over all creation as the Incarnate Son of God. Jesus shares a law of charity to show the way to communion with God. Those who keep them show their love for their Divine Master, and he promises that they shall remain in his love. (Quas primas, 14) By being close to sisters and brothers who are suffering, we draw close to Jesus.

The Church acknowledges the reign of Christ, not only privately, but publicly.

Thus by sermons preached at meetings and in churches, by public adoration of the Blessed Sacrament exposed and by solemn processions, men unite in paying homage to Christ, whom God has given them for their King. (Quas primas, 26) For Christians, when our faith is repeatedly marginalized in public life, we can fall into the habit of compartmentalizing our lives. We love Jesus in our private lives, but we shrink from acknowledging the kingship of Christ in social life. EXPECTATIONS AS WE GATHER FOR MASS Please arrive earlier than usual to search for seating that observes social distancing.  Masks, Hand Sanitizer, and Social/Physical distancing are required.  There can be no physical collection of Stewardship Offerings; A designated box(es) will be placed in the

Narthex/Gathering Space for the placement of envelopes or offerings. Thank you for your generosity.  Missals, Missalettes, Bulletins, and other papers have been removed.  Holy Water has been drained from all locations.  Parish Clergy will distribute Holy Communion; we ask all coming forth to observe distancing front to back and side to side.  Remove mask (and gloves) as you approach the Eucharist; put mask back in place as you return to your pew  Volunteers are greatly needed to wipe down the wood of the pews after all Masses (weekend and weekday). We will have a cleaning crew take care of the floors, bathrooms, etc, but need this little bit of additional help. Please contact Andrew if you are able.

We have been advised that socializing before or after the Mass inside or outside is to be discouraged; clergy are not permitted to greet parishioners before or after the Mass.

NOTE:  For those Catholic faithful that need to consider any possible health and safety risks involved with attending a public gathering the weekend Mass will be available online.  Monday through Friday 9 am Daily Mass in the chapel in the Parish Hall - do not arrive prior to 8:30 AM

In past years, the Parish of St. Mary has distributed little books of spiritual reflections for Advent, the Christmas season, and Lent. Due to the pandemic we have suspended all distributions of paper items to parishioners. Thus, for example, we do not distribute paper copies of the parish bulletin. Quo vadis…

My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King. One of the best ways we can begin to see the Christ in the other is not by judging the negative aspects of their persons first but instead looking for the good in the other. This can be carried out in such a simple Christian practice as seeking always to compliment rather than to criticize another. Care that we don’t spread gossip is another way. In this do we build up the body of Christ and bring honor to Christ our King who dwells in ourselves and the other.

The call to build our community of the Church is especially important these days as some of our members continue to question whether or not there is a future here in our parish or if they feel a part of our parish. We must be supportive of them as they ask these important questions. It is also imperative for us to consciously become a more and more welcoming community. There are so many Catholics out there who simply do not feel as if they fit into a church…at least the church where they might be registered or the territory where they might live but do not attend. As evangelizers we need to support these members of the church as they too ask the difficult questions of faith and life. If you notice a new face in our midst don’t be shy. Introduce yourself and welcome this person if they are visiting or are new to our community. If you notice a parent with a fussing child, don’t look at them with a scour on your face; rather, encourage them in their attempt to satisfy their child. If you recognize a person with special needs offer to assist them as they find a seat or struggle to enter the communion procession. All of these simple and random acts of kindness help to distinguish our community as an authentic community of Christian Stewards. Together we can make the difference!

The Fall Clean Up is being held this coming Saturday, 21 November. There is plenty for participants of all ages. Check out the e-letter for details.

Mass will be celebrated Thanksgiving Day at 9:00 am in the church. Giving thanks to God and receiving the Holy Eucharist is the best way to begin a day of thanks.

When joining family members and friends try your best to use hand sanitizer and some physical distancing.

We will be taking up the Misa Emanuele music setting for the sung mass parts during the Advent & Christmas Liturgical Seasons. This setting was introduced several years ago in our parish and the congregation received it favorably. Let me take this opportunity to thank all of our parish liturgical ministers, especially the music ministers, for their steadfast commitment, and loyalty in serving our parish community.

The 2020 election season is coming to a close. There have been many tight races especially for members of the US House of Representatives. I think it is good to recognize how many citizens participated in this year’s election. The number of participants is the greatest and I believe the highest percentage ever recorded. I am encouraged by this participation. Our Democracy continues to thrive. It is sometimes quite messy. It does not always yield to our personal choices.

Democracy is celebrating the will of the people. Let us give thanks for this great freedom and our responsibility to preserve and cherish it for generations to come.

CHRISTMAS OUTREACH

CHRISTMAS SPONSOR-A-FAMILY Purchase gifts for a family in need.

You select several families or a group of people can sponsor a larger family. We ask that you spend $50 per person and you will be provided with a list of needed items prepared by the family. This program adopts families from Aslan Youth Ministries.

The goal is to sponsor families in need at Christmas. If you, your family, your neighbors, coworkers, or friends would like to sponsor a family in need this holiday season, please contact: Kathy Maher wamaher2@aol.com

Due to COVID restrictions, we will not be having individual ornaments on the tree this year or collecting toys as we have in past years. Many of the organizations we work with are not able to collect, sort and distribute physical gifts. Instead, gift cards are requested which will be distributed directly to families.

In order to provide the assistance we normally offer (800 gifts), we are asking that parishioners participate by purchasing gift cards or making monetary donations.
