In it, we find God's unconditional forgiveness, and as a result we are called to forgive others.

In this sacrament, the outward sign is the absolution, or forgiveness of sins, that the priest grants to the penitent (the person confessing his or her sins); the inward grace is the reconciliation of the penitent to God. To receive the sacrament worthily, three things are required of the penitent: • To be contrite—or, in other words, sorry for his or her sins.

• To confess those sins fully, in kind and in number.

• To be willing to do penance and make amends for his or her sins.

Since Advent is a time for preparation, Penance and Reconciliation helps make us ready in mind, heart and soul for the coming of Christ, which we will soon celebrate in the Mass of Christmas.

What is Eucharistic Adoration?

Understood simply, Eucharistic Adoration is adoring or honoring the Eucharistic Presence of Christ. In a deeper sense, it involves "the contemplation of the Mystery of Christ truly present before us". During Eucharistic Adoration, we "watch and wait", we remain "silent" in His Presence and open ourselves to His Graces which flow from the Eucharist ...

By worshiping the Eucharistic Jesus, we become what God wants us to be!

Like a magnet, The Lord draws us to Himself and gently transforms us. In its fullest essence ... Eucharistic Adoration is "God and Man reaching out for each other, at the same time!" The Monstrance contains the Sacred Host. At all other times, the reserved Sacrament is kept locked in the Tabernacle, so that the faithful may pray in the presence of the Sacrament.

The Eucharist is: Jesus truly present Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity!

SHARING OUR GIFTS Autumn is the season for harvesting and sharing the fruits of our labors. This week's scriptures use images of the harvest, family life, pregnancy, and investment to describe the abundant harvest in the reign of God. We discover that sharing the gifts we have been given brings eternal rewards for everyone.

In the Gospel parable a master entrusts his possessions to three servants before going on a journey. Each is given some talents. What they do with those talents determines what the master will do with them when he returns. How about us? What are we doing with our talents? How will our Master treat us when he returns?

Quo vadis…

My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Thirty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. As we continue our journey through these final days of the liturgical year, the scriptures remind us of our responsibility as Catholic Christians to act in life-giving and accountable ways. None of us likes to think about the end of times or the final judgment. However, we need to develop a certain consciousness about these matters. When we make decisions we ought not to be so carefree that we radiate a sense of unbridled carefreeness that children and others who look to us might perceive the wrong attitudes about our view of what is right and what is wrong. These last days are also an opportunity for us to take a type of spiritual inventory of our lives as we ready ourselves for the image rich tranquil season of Advent.

November calls us to prayerfully reflect on our belief in the resurrection, as we honor all the saints and we pray for the repose of all the holy souls. Bereavement and grieving is a necessary part of our parish ministry. I encourage you to pray for all those whose names are entered into our parish book of remembrance. November is also a time for us to be thankful for all the many blessings that we have received. We are a blessed people… no doubt about that. How do we make a return to the Lord for these blessings? We are collecting non-perishable food items to be distributed throughout the year. Together we can help to make a difference.

This coming week we will host members of the Colts Neck Reformed Church for the Annual Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service.

This is a wonderful opportunity to come

together as Christians witnessing to one another the blessings that we have received.

Mass will be celebrated on Thanksgiving Day at 9:00 am in the Church. Come and begin your family’s observance of Thanksgiving by giving thanks to God first.

The Solemnity of Jesus Christ the King of the Universe is quickly approaching…next Sunday.

This marks the conclusion of the Church’s Liturgical Year. This year we will come together to thank God for the ministry and service to our parish community of Deacon Fred Sorrentino at the 12:00 noon Mass.

Come and join us to thank God and to honor Deacon Fred for his years of service to our parish community. The First Sunday of Advent follows on 3 December 2017. It is the beginning of the Church’s New Liturgical Year. Our Sunday Readings will be taken from Cycle B; Weekday Readings will be taken from Year II. Congratulations to all those who have been elected for public service. Let us keep them in our prayer as they strive to serve the needs of all their constituents.

Please note your personal schedules for the Advent Penance & Reconciliation Services on Sunday, 3 December at 3:00 pm. During this service we will welcome our young people as they celebrate First Penance & Reconciliation with their family members and our parishioners. I encourage all of our parishioners to come and receive God’s Grace in this sacrament and to support our young people in their journey of faith. Have a great week. Congratulations to parish teens: Patrick Dickinson, Bridget Farrow, and Valeska Yaninas who are attending the National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis this weekend with adult chaperone Linda Dickinson-Pancila. Attendees will experience three days of catechesis, prayer, Eucharist, service, and recreation in a safe and welcoming environment along with 25,000 other teens and adult chaperones. The parish group is traveling together by bus with other Diocesan youth.

A special thank you to St Mary Parish and the Martha Mary Guild for funding the cost of the trip.

“Light Up a Memory” “Light Up a Memory” has become a beautiful Christmas tradition at St. Mary and is now in its 10th year, thanks to the support of an enthusiastic community. It is heartwarming to see the hundreds of lights sparkle during the Christmas season. For a contribution of $10.00 per light, people are invited to sponsor a light in memory of someone deceased or in honor of a living person. All of the names will be inscribed in the Light Up a Memory book, which will be displayed in St. Mary’s Gathering Space.

There will be a tree Lighting Ceremony on Sat., Dec. 16, after the 4:00 Mass, with music provided by St. Mary’s Choir.

Refreshments will be served in the Gathering Space after the ceremony.
