Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

FOR DEEPER REFLECTION:

Question for Children: Jesus teaches us that work is good for us. What kind of work do you do during the week? How does it help you?

Question for Youth: Jesus tells us that even though bad things will happen, we are safe in God. When have you felt the safety of God’s life in your own life?

Question for Adults: Paul's words to the Thessalonians are tough: if you want to eat, you must work! How does this translate into our society today? How do you reconcile this with Jesus' command to love and feed the poor?

Consider donating the sanctuary lamp that burns in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament in the Church or Chapel in honor of a living or deceased loved one. One intention is accepted per week (Sunday - Saturday) for the Lamp. The suggested donation is $25. Request online HERE.

Worship & Music

This solemnity is one of most important in the Roman Catholic calendar, as it not only reaffirms our faith in Christ, ruler and redeemer of all, but also ends the liturgical year, with the following Sunday always being the first Sunday of Advent and the first Sunday of the new liturgical year. Similar to the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, many institutions hold Eucharistic adoration on this day.

Christus Rex Our

Lord, Jesus Christ, King of the

Universe

Next weekend, we celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. This title of Jesus refers to his place in the kingdom of Heaven, seated at the right hand of God the Father. The holy day was instituted in 1925 by Pope Pius XI to remind the faithful that their allegiance is to their spiritual ruler in heaven, and that earthly rulers are fleeting.

On this day is also sung one of the churches oldest and longest hymns, Laudes Regiae, The Royal Praises.

Christus Vincit Christ conquers (sin and death) Christus Regnat Christ reigns (for eternity) Christus Imperat Christ commands (and leads his people)

And English version was composed by Monsignor Martin B. Hellgriel in 1941; we know this as “To Jesus Christ Our Sovereign King” and also sing this on this great day.

Saint of the Week:

Albert the Great, Bishop and Doctor, 1206 1280

Albert was the eldest son of the count of Bollstädt and heir to that title. Despite the strong opposition of his family, he became a Dominican in 1222. Teaching and studying at various universities, Albert soon developed a widespread reputation for his learning and intellect. He received his doctorate from the university at Paris in 1245 and became the regent of a new school established in Cologne in 1248. Read more HERE.

Quo vadis . . .

My Dear Parishioners:

Today we celebrate the Thirty Third Sunday in Ordinary time. The signs of the end time alert us to the fact that our striving to be faithful disciples has cosmic proportions. Living the paschal mystery doesn’t just have consequences for ourselves, but for all others as well. When we break out of a chronological understanding of time (that is, time as duration with past, present, and future) and break into God’s eternal time (time without duration in which everything just is) we can begin to understand how even the little acts of kindness and self-sacrifice we perform each day affect all that is. This is a sobering thought: the way we; care for the children, are honest at the workplace, take leisure time to care for ourselves affects our whole world and everyone in it. This is the privilege of discipleship: we can make a difference!!!!!!

This year we have been treated to a most excellent fall season to date. Mild temperatures are now yielding to a more seasonable chill in the air. The foliage has gloriously burst into a festive color and now those colors fade as the early evening dark signals that winter is near. This month of All Saints and All Souls reminds us of our need to seek the truth in all things; to choose the higher standard as we strive for holiness of life. As we recall those who have gone before us, here in our parish, in our families, and in our church, we pray for steadfast witnesses to the faith that has been handed on to us. The scripture passages selected for these last weeks of the liturgical year help us to focus on being accountable, presenting ourselves at the end of our days. Let us continue to support all those in our parish community who are seeking to deepen their relationship with God through Jesus

Christ. May we continue to reverently celebrate the sacraments so that the bond of communion might be strengthened among us as we witness to one another and the children in our midst.

Each November every parish and incorporated entity within our Diocese of Trenton must submit corporate resolutions for approval of His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton as President of each corporation under NJ statute. This year the Reverend Monsignor Thomas N. Gervasio, Diocesan Vicar General and Vice President of each corporate entity approved the resolutions. Annually there is a corporate resolution naming the Pastor as Secretary/Treasurer of the parish. Additionally, the nomination and ratification of two lay representatives from the parish. These Lay Trustees are to serve a one year term which is normatively renewed five additional times for a total of six years of service. Our parish is well served by the counsel of our Parish Trustees Annette Raynor and Roger Zurro. I am grateful for their willingness to assist me in the temporal administration of our parish resources. One is ex-officio to the finance council; the other is ex officio to the pastoral council along with our Pastoral Associate for Temporal Administration Edwin Sevillano and the Pastor who serve on both councils in an ex-officio role. Resolutions are also prepared memorializing or seeking permission for extraordinary expenditures or the receipt of extraordinary gifts.

Don’t forget to participate in our fall clean up next weekend. We need lots of participation to keep these 25 acres looking great. Details in the bulletin. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff

“Light Up a Memory”

Preparations for the "Memory Tree" lighting this year have already started.

A $10.00 contribution signifies a light in memory of a deceased loved one, or in honor of a living person. His/her name will be inscribed in a special "Memory Book", which will be on display in the Church Narthex.

Each $10.00 also entitles the donor to a Remembrance cards available in the Church Office during regular office hours for those who want to pick them up.

The Tree of Love will be making its debut this year on the weekend of November 19-20, to allow extra time to shop for gifts. Some groups are continuing with gift cards this year due to volunteer shortages / Covid concerns but there will be tags on the tree for children's toys and gifts for nursing home residents.

As in the past, please take a tag from the tree, fulfill the request ($25 value) and return the gift with tag attached no later than December 5th. Thank you for your generosity towards those in need.

The deadline for submissions is December 1, 2022.

Submissions after deadline are included in the addendum of the Memory Book.

Participants are also invited to the joyous tree lighting ceremony, with music by our Children’s Choir at the 4:00 pm Mass on Saturday, December 10, 2022.
