THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM This seventh Sunday of Easter is somewhat like the proverbial "calm before the storm." The Lord Jesus has ascended into heaven and Pentecost has not yet occurred. Rather than immediately taking up Jesus' command to go out to all the nations, the disciples gather in the upper room "with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers" (Acts 1:14). There they all devote themselves to prayer. The Gospel recounts the great prayer for the disciples that Jesus offered to his Father in heaven. If the words of Jesus while he was on earth finally began to sink in for the disciples, then gathering to pray was certainly the right choice, for the second reading lets us all know that to follow Christ means to have a share in his sufferings. What is Eucharistic Adoration? Understood simply, Eucharistic Adoration is adoring or honoring the Eucharistic Presence of Christ. In a deeper sense, it involves "the contemplation of the Mystery of Christ truly present before us". During Eucharistic Adoration, we "watch and wait", we remain "silent" in His Presence and open ourselves to His Graces which flow from the Eucharist The Monstrance contains the Sacred Host. At all other times, the reserved Sacrament is kept locked in the Tabernacle, so that the faithful may pray in the presence of the Sacrament. The Eucharist is: Jesus truly present Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity!

3 Day Music CAMP for Grades 3rd through 12th The Music Ministry of Saint Mary’s is proud to present a 3 day Music Camp Thursday, July 27th through Saturday July 29th. This one-of-a-kind opportunity brings faculty from throughout the diocese! From 10:00 am until 3:00 pm on Thursday & Friday and 12:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Saturday, young people from all over the diocese will spend these days learning healthy vocal techniques, conducting, reading music, solfeggio, rhythm, all while engaging in games, various activities, & group lessons. The program concludes with 5:00 pm Mass on Saturday, for which the youth will provide all of the music! Appropriate for 3rd grade through 12th. We have notified Presidents/Principals/VicePrincipals of nearly 20 High Schools, some having called and emailed confirming their assistance in all aspects (curriculum and after school activities), so there should be NO issues in terms of excused time off. An email has been sent to all current 8th graders with this information, requesting the name of any High School not listed, to be sure all were contacted. Please check for that email and respond accordingly if your future high school is not listed! Also included in the notice to these Educational Leaders, are the following MANDATORY practice/ rehearsal dates to take place Wednesdays, September 27 and October 4, from 6 pm-8:30 pm, details to follow. End-year Confirmation Interviews will take place after Memorial Day, with a completion date of June 9, look for an email with specific dates/ times and sign-ups! Lastly, Confirmation Retreat (yes, mandatory!) will take place on Sunday September 17, 2017. ALL Confirmandi will attend the 12noon Mass, Retreat to follow, ending at 6:00pm.

Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Seventh Sunday of Easter. Our society glorifies being our own person and doing all we can to make our lives easy. This gospel and second reading make clear that to live the paschal mystery— continue Jesus’ work—means that we must remain in Jesus even to the point of taking up his suffering. Jesus’ prayer, then, does not make our lives easier, but harder! It is the share in glory that makes the choice to be a faithful disciple living the paschal mystery worthwhile. Many thanks to all those who gathered with us for the Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving in honor of my 25th Anniversary of Ordination to the Priesthood. It was very prayerful. A special word of thanks to our parish liturgical ministers and those who organized the reception that followed the Mass. I am reading the many cards and notes that have been sent and am touched by words of encouragement that have been shared. Let us continue to pray for priests and vocations to the priesthood. Let us also congratulate our graduates. Having completed their studies, they are being challenged to begin a new chapter in their life. With that comes the uncertainty of what they will encounter in their journey. The community of faith can be a wonderful place to gain that necessary support that is needed during life’s transitions. May we, filled with God’s grace, be a people of hope and encouragement. There are lots of voices
out there attempting to bring us down or distract us from our mission. Stay focused and remember why we are here: to build the Body of Christ in our midst. Also, please register or re-register for religious education and sacramental preparation opportunities for the coming year. We want to provide the very best for our parishioner families. This requires preparation and planning. We continue to receive sponsorships and golfers for our annual golf tournament. It is a wonderful tradition. Come and be a part of this great tradition. This coming Saturday, His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton, will confer the Sacrament of Holy Orders upon those to be ordained as priests. These new priests will be assigned to parishes throughout our Diocese of Trenton. Next weekend we will celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost, the fulfillment of the New Covenant in the sending of the Holy Spirit to continue the ministry of Christ’s Church. Don’t forget to wear something RED next weekend when you come to celebrate Mass! This coming Monday is Memorial Day. Mass will be celebrated in the Church at 9 am. Come, let us pray for all those who have made the supreme sacrifice for the freedom that we enjoy. Have a great week! Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff
