Men’s Morning Office (MMO) meets ever y Thursday morning at 6:30am in the Christ Chapel. “Liturgy of the Hours”- meditation and prayer is led each week by one of the men, followed by communion. The service lasts about 30 minutes after which, for those that can stay, we enjoy the camaraderie of one another over coffee & donuts.

The invitation is OPEN for all men in the Parish to join.

Quo vadis…

My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Sixth Sunday of Easter.

So much of resurrection belief rests in intimacy with Jesus and we know such intimacy is to characterize all of Christian life. Yet it’s difficult to keep things in perspective: so much of our life seems anything but connected to Jesus let alone his resurrection. Our sheer busyness hardly leaves us with a moment to catch our breath let alone be concerned about intimacy with Jesus! We have difficulty being intimate with those we love with whom we work and spend our lives; how in the world can we talk in any practical terms about intimacy with Jesus? Intimacy with Jesus does not require that we pray all the time or that we are consciously aware of Jesus’ presence.

Intimacy with Jesus is a simple matter of keeping his commandments—being gentle and reverent toward others, having a clear conscience, doing good (see second reading).

For most of us, we are already doing what we need to do to be good Christians; what more is needed is to recognize that these good actions are already receiving the intimacy Jesus offers.

He makes all good possible.

As I write this note for the bulletin, a few priest friends have arrived and are guests at the parish house. There is lots of activity in preparation for my 25th Anniversary of Ordination to the Priesthood both here in Colts Neck and at the Parish where I celebrated my First Mass. More to come on this next weekend. Later in the week, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Ascension of Our Lord, the 40th Day of Easter.

Our Church teaches that the Lord Jesus, after having been raised from the dead, ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of the almighty God. This Solemnity is a Holy Day of Obligation. Masses have been scheduled for your convenience. Please plan to participate in

the Eucharist for this holy day. The Solemnity of Pentecost is observed on the 50th Day of Easter. This Solemnity marks the completion of the New Covenant of the Almighty with the People of God in promising to remain with us always…until the end of time. The outpouring of the Paraclete is in essence the birthing of the Church, enabling the Apostles and their successors to continue the Mission of Christ by evangelizing and sacramentally initiating new members into the Body of Christ the Church.

Next Monday we observe the Civic Memorial Day as we recognize those who have given the supreme sacrifice for our country and those who have served as well as those serving in the armed forces to guarantee the freedom that we enjoy. Let us be ever mindful of the great sacrifices that have been made through the years for our freedom. We will gather for Mass Monday at 9am in the Church. I encourage all to participate. Later that morning, Colts Neck Town leaders will have a parade and ceremony.

I have been invited to be present and represent our parish community and I have accepted that invitation. Consider participating in our town’s civic observance as a way of showing our solidarity on this great day.

Our Parish Golf Outing is coming up, Monday 5 June. Come and be part of a great tradition.

Many thanks to those who have participated in the “one time” collection for the Trinity Dome completion at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in our Nation’s capital. We will forward these donations this coming week. Those who would like to participate are asked to do so this weekend.
