My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Easter. Even at Easter when we celebrate the new resurrection life of Jesus and share in joy and singing unending alleluias, we cannot stray too far from reflecting on the cost of this new life: self-emptying for the sake of another. During times when we seem to be overwhelmed by the demands of dying, God assures us of new life. During this Easter time when we are overjoyed at the new life, God assures us of Jesus’ faithful modeling that leads us through death to this life. Yes, Jesus is the gate—that must lead through death on our way to a share in his new life.

Spring is a time for new beginnings. As the trees bud and the flowers bloom, we must carefully reflect on God’s Gift of Life all around us. As stewards, how are we caring for the Gift of Life in our midst? Do we strive to live healthy, balanced lives? Do we make time for daily prayer? Are our eating habits getting the best of us? Do we take the opportunity for an afternoon or evening stroll while the weather remains mild before the summer heat? All these things can be part of our spiritual life. Contemplative or “mantra style” prayers are important; however, our spiritual lives can be well served by choices to exercise regularly, eat foods that are healthier or better portions, as well as taking some down time for reading or personal reflection. May this glorious Season of Easter be a time of true rejoicing in the triumph of Jesus Christ over sin and all that can hold us spiritually hostage.

Last weekend was joyful for our parish

community as we welcomed families and friends of our First Communicants. I am so very grateful to the parents, catechists, parish staff and all those who helped prepare the children, our worship and our facilities for this important celebration of the sacraments of initiation. This weekend we continue to host families presenting their children for First Holy Communion.

Many thanks to parishioners John and Monica Barr for sharing their company workers to power-wash sidewalks on our campus as well as painting both Madonna Hall and the Theater (which has not been painted since the building was constructed I am told). Additional work will continue in Madonna Hall and the Theater this budget year as well as next year. Your sacrificial Stewardship supports these efforts. Gifts in kind are also very appreciated. Thanks one and all.

Our parish continues to make progress in achieving our minimum goal for the Diocesan Faith to Move Mountains Capital Campaign. We continue to receive generous pledges. Remember that whatever is paid above our minimum goal yields a 70% return to our parish for the goals outlined in the case statement. We continue to receive gifts for the 2017 Easter Collection. We will present an accounting to you in the coming weeks. As always, thank you for your generous sharing. Preparations continue for our Parish Annual Golf Tournament. Pictured above is Beth Tarantino, who has been a health, nutrition and fitness instructor at Brookdale Community College for over 20 years. She has a BS in Exercise Science and an MA in Health Education, and is a certified Personal Trainer, Pilates Instructor and Nutrition Specialist. The Martha Mary Guild is pleased that someone with all these credentials will be available for our meeting on May 10 at noon. Beth will focus on simple exercises for women 50 years young and older – in order for our age group to maintain and improve our strength – which is so very important to all of us!

Join us in the Spiritual Center chapel for the rosary at 11:30 am, followed by BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch), in Madonna Hall, with refreshments provided by the Guild. The meeting will start at 12:30 pm.

At our April meeting, Sr. Debra Drago told us how much the Collier Kateri Camp needs children's new bathing suits and beach towels. We are asking our members to bring such items to the May meeting. Thank you for always being so generous to the needs of women and children - our MMG mission!

On Wednesday April 19, members of the Martha Mary Guild were treated to a wonderful presentation about Collier Youth Services by Sr. Drago, Executive Director and Russell Gartz , Director of External Relations. They each gave interesting presentations about the wonderful things happening at Collier. A film was shown with children and teens talking about how they love being at the Kateri Summer Camp, the schools or the residence and how much it has helped them. It is such a good feeling to know that so many people right in our area are so dedicated to helping children from all over the county!

Once again, the generosity of our members was superb – with tons of books being donated for all these children.

ServiceWorX is a week-long service immersion program for youth going into 7th and 8th grades and current 8th graders who are still in need of service hours or a service experience (current 6th, 7th and 8th graders and confirmation prep students). The camp explores the Catholic faith through hands on service opportunities at local agencies and organizations.

ServiceWorX is held at Saint Mary Parish in conjunction with local organizations. To date service opportunities have been secured with Lunch Break, a food bank in Red Bank and Care One at Holmdel, a nursing home.

ServiceWorX Program will begin on Sunday, June 25, 2017 with attendance required at the 12:00 noon Mass at Saint Mary Parish. Immediately following Mass, attend a Kick-off informational meeting for participants and at least (1) parent in Madonna hall. Pizza and refreshments will be served.

Program continues throughout the week: Monday, 26 June - Friday, 30 June 30 from 8:30 am-4:00 pm.
